I’m new to Species Counterpoint… from what I gleaned-thus far-from your videos and others on the subject…I thought in (1st species counterpoint) the minimum harmonic distance between the Cantus Firmus and 1st Species Counterpoint Above (CPA) the c.f. was the interval of a P5th with the maximum intervalic distance of 10th (8ve and generic 3rd). If the intervalic interval of a 3rd is allowed in 1st Species Counterpoint…that would make my counterpoint easier to write. Again, thanks for your layperson succinct videos.
