The only reason for that is Cleveland sued Modell, making him leave the colors and history. He originally wanted it to be the Baltimore Browns, and lost money on the pennants and memorabilia saying Baltimore Browns. I know a guy who has a few of the Baltimore Browns's beer mugs, which were supposed to be destroyed at the factory, but he kept a few thinking they would be valuable one day.

For one, the city of Cleveland had to sue Modell to get him to leave the name and colors. You were meant to be the Baltimore Browns, and would have been had it not been for the city's lawsuit. It was two months after Modell announced the move that he finally agreed to leave the name and colors in exchange dropping litigation. Thousands of plastic cups, caps, bumper stickers, and pennants were made up with the name Baltimore Browns on them and Model whined about the large amount of money he lost on them because of the name change- this was all over the news in Cleveland, and I met a few people who still have some of the Baltimore Browns stuff in case they became a collector's items somehow, but they haven't. Maybe that story didn't make it to Baltimore, where they've white washed the hijacking of our team. And number two, so what you are saying is that it would have been okay for Irsay to leave if he had left the team name and colors.

One playoff appearance in 19 seasons, they've finished dead last in their division 15 of those 19 seasons (including 7 consecutive years going into 2018) and are one of two teams to finish a season 0-16. Alive and well? Harr-dee-harr. Baltimore stole the respectable franchise that Cleveland bought and in their place, Cleveland replaced them with a franchise that is comparable in name only, but are a complete mockery of the old Cleveland team.

psinet98 It seems to me that Browns fans are still bitter about what Art Modell did. Modell wanted a new stadium and a championship to go along with it. The city of Cleveland, Ohio blew it by not putting more money to build a new stadium which saw Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore. Modell was right. Baltimore ponied up and built a new stadium for the Ravens and since the move to Baltimore, the Ravens won two championships. Also, the Browns kept their name and their legacy intact despite the move. They still had their eight professional American gridiron football championships (4 AAFC and 4 NFL). They also have their heartbreaking moments since coming back like blowing 27-14 and 33-21 leads to their bitter rival Steelers in the 2002 AFC Wild Card game.

Talking about how team relocations has destroyed the spirit in professional sports. Modell wanted a new stadium on taxpayer dime to generate more money for himself. It had nothing to do with winning championships.

MacGovernor But Art Modell moving the Browns to Baltimore sparked a lot of new stadiums to be built and keep their teams in their cities. Had CenturyLink Field not been built, the Seahawks would've left Seattle by now. Had Levi's Stadium not been built, the 49ers would've moved to Los Angeles from the San Francisco Bay Area. The Raiders and Chargers are in danger of moving out of their cities unless their owners and the city government itself pony up to build a new stadium for them or move.

Had the City of Cleveland spent more money to build a new venue, they would've kept Bill Belichick from executing the plan with the Patriots and the Ravens would've won two Super Bowls. That's a total of six Super Bowls that slipped through Cleveland's grasp. No wonder why Cleveland hasn't won a Big Four Pro Sports League title since 1964. They are snakebit.
