The mission of the Santa Elena Foundation is the discovery, preservation, and promotion of the “Lost Century” of European colonization through the international story of Santa Elena, the 16th Century 'la Florida' settlement that became the colonial Spanish capital in present-day United States - on Parris Island, South Carolina.

In 2015, the Santa Elena Foundation will be moving to the former Federal Courthouse Building on Bay Street in Beaufort SC. This is the next step toward the opening of our cultural interpretive center and museum.

This is proof the land of modern South Carolina belongs to the Spanish crown!!!! The great nation of Spain should claim what is rightfully theirs! The U.S. has no right to that land, nor any English speaking peoples. It is the land of Spain and they should take it back! NOW!!

I visited the Santa Elena center today and was very disappointed to see that there were no artifacts. You can watch this film clip here on line and see the same thing that I saw at the center. The only difference is that I had to pay $10.00.
Scholars say, "History is only good as it is written" -- re-discovery of our earliest settlement in the U. S. needs to be told, published and visited. Much appreciation to the foundation and to all who have participated in this historical and cultural effort. Arlene Bennett, Beaufort, SC
