Charvel DK24 String Saver Mod Prototype

This is a short overview of my “string saver” mod idea made by my friends Ian and Raghav. It’s a small piece of 3D printed plastic that mounts to the pickup screw It stops the high E string from getting stuck under the faceplate of the neck humbucker when playing more aggressive rhythm parts. Let me know if you’re interested in this and we will develop a new schematic to share which will hopefu...
Midi Guitar 3 Beta and Soundscapes
Переглядів 7309 місяців тому
I purchased Midi Guitar 3 beta and was experimenting with the Logic soundscapes and my normal guitar sound. It's a very cool software that has a lot of potential, and is worth looking into if you're looking for introduction into midi guitars instead of buying a Roland pickup or a real midi guitar. I am not sponsored, just sharing a cool idea I came up with when messing around. If you are intere...
Boss Katana 50W Headphones/Rec Out "Speaker Un-Mute" Mod - How to keep speaker on when recording
Переглядів 4,8 тис.Рік тому
*NEW VIDEO ON TOPIC* ua-cam.com/video/BvqDWtJ95gU/v-deo.htmlsi=3iFDUlGQCC-3gtgL This mod can be done on any Katana amp. The boards inside the amps do vary from model to model so this may not be exactly the same disassembly as a 100W combo or 100W head. This is a mod I found from this guide: www.roguepark.com/ampmod/
Thanks so much for this, my son in law helped me do this after referencing your video.. Thanks so much once again.
Nice thanks for this tutorial. A question i wonder if using the rec out plugged into a standard looper and then plug the looper it into the aux in would work ? Do you know ?
I do not know, but I would guess probably. I will be making an updated video soon with another katana I have and will test your idea.
@lukes_guitars According to a guy I talked to, it will work he did it. I'd like to do it on my katana air
Wow, very nice playing! I love it. What VST you are prefering?
In this video the tone is from my Boss GT-1000 Core using the “natural” amp.
Sorry noob question.. . can i use this for a headphone monitor while playing in a small jam setup?
Yes definitely, but the speaker simulation will not work so it will not sound as accurate in your headphones.
I tried this mod and it works pretty much as described. But as an important sidenote: When you do this mod, for some reason the Rec out doesnt have the cab simulation on it, when the Speaker is also on. So the sound coming out of it is a lot more distorted and quite frankly sounds pretty bad for most music. So unless you can run it through a different cab sim, the sound is kind of unusable for me at least.
Interesting, I haven’t noticed this but will investigate and report back. I played a gig recently where I used the rec out for front of house and speaker for volume on stage since we didn’t have monitors, and the rec out sounded totally normal to me. Just curious, did you install a switch or just a jumper wire?
@@lukes_guitars I was actually trying this mod for the same reason xD I'm playing a gig this weekend and I'd really like using the amp as my guitar monitor. I used a switch for it, so it's really easy to tell the sound changing, when I flip the switch. Also sidenote, I have a mk2, maybe that's important in this case
@Reikasa you’re totally correct! Never noticed this before, but it totally disables speaker simulation. I guess this is a huge reason to install a switch with this mod. It must be that the katana is programmed to disable speaker sim when the speaker is active, which makes sense because you probably wouldn’t want the sim coming out of the katana speaker.
@@lukes_guitars Yeah it definetely makes sense, but it kind of makes this mod useless for me sadly 😅 I'll just have to start micing my amp on stage, which is a pain but still better than getting a new one
First of all, thanks for this information. I’m gonna try it on my Amplifier hope it doesn’t burn😂. And is there any particular type of wire you would recommend to connect those two points?
Anything with a vinyl or cloth coating will work
mais ce que personnes dit c'est que quand on fait le son qui arrive sur le pc n'ai avec émulateur!!! le son redevient en sortie direct comme en ce branchant au HP. donc votre instalation ne sert a rien! tester.
I’m not sure what people you’re referring to and this translation is difficult to read. I and many others have had no issues with this mod and it does not affect usb connection to the computer. Maybe you damaged some internal components. Sorry
Another great vid. You should do more. Love Logic as well. Subbed
Outstanding video and right to the point. Does this mean I can run another cab/speaker through the out at the same time im using the Katana ams speaker? Got a mk100 and would love to do this.
Yes you can! But the headphones/record out does color the sound with speaker simulation, so don’t expect your other cab/speaker to sound as it would if you just plug directly into it.
This would be awesome in the new Boss katana. Have you done this on other amps?
I only own the Boss Katana 50w MKII but this mod is the same on all Katanas afaik. Just bridge those lugs on the jack and you’re good to go!
@@lukes_guitars Since I have no soldering skills I would totally pay for this. The new katana 100 has the line out but it is still mono. They did however make the headphones/rec out stereo however just like with your amp when you use that jack it mutes the speaker. Your mod would be killer on these amps. I can envision this being an asset when I play in live recordings where I might want to turn up a bit without affecting the balance in the mixing board. I would just come out from the headphone jack in stereo into the board and still have full autonomy on my stage volume. Do you do this mod for other folks? Where are you based?
@@IsaacLausell It’s really a shame that the Gen 3 did not come updated with this function. Boss totally missed the opportunity, especially when it’s so simple. I’ve never done any work on other people’s amps, I’m just a DIYer with very basic skills from working on cars and computers. If you know of an amp or guitar repair near you they can definitely install this. I used this guide as a reference: www.roguepark.com/ampmod/ If no one locally is able to help you, I would consider it. You can follow me on insta and dm me @lukes_guitars
Someone else in the comments also had the idea that installing the switch was not necessary because “Standby” mutes the speaker but still passes audio through the Rec Out. So no drilling required!
@@lukes_guitars thanks for sharing your knowledge and I agree they really messed up. This is one of the reasons you don’t see this amp being embraced by pros. The tone quality is there but no ones to compromise on function and reasonably so.
Does the mute button still work?
As far as i know, the master and power selector will not affect the line out signal
I’m assuming by mute button, you mean the power selector (standby, 0.5w, 25w, 50w). After installing this mod, if you have something plugged into the record out and set the amp to standby it will mute the speaker but still send signal through record out. This means that installing the switch like I did is potentially not necessary as the power selector standby can act as a mute. Perhaps skipping the switch and just connecting the terminals/lugs with a wire is the cleaner way to install this mod.
How is it at triggering false notes without having to be be so rigid in playing. That's the problem every midi guitar I've had both software and hardware including the first to versions of this one.
It’s pretty decent, definitely the best I’ve used but I haven’t used many. You do have to change your playing style and be careful with muting, but it has very nice controls for adjusting the threshold at which it picks up signal and plays a note. You can change it from polyphonic to monophonic for better note tracking, but in my experience the polyphonic setting is better even for single note stuff.
@@lukes_guitars Much appreciate your response. Kind of what I expected.
👏👏👏
crack!
Hi, really nice tutorial! Would it be possible to have the speaker always on (along with the headphone output), so without the need to install the external switch? Could you explain how?
At 2:36 I mention this. If you connect the two lugs with a single wire then the speaker will always stay on with the record out enabled.
@@CowbellRock thanx a lot!
I think you can have the speaker always on, and mute it in STANDBY MODE.
