    Hey MK. I had another question. Obviously the goal in Long Runs is to incorporate Marathon paced miles as you build up to the race. Is there an ideal ratio that you have found of steady pace to marathon pace that you aim for on the last long run before the taper? Thanks again for the content.

    • @allheartrc
      @allheartrc 2 дні тому

      i like to schedule the last long marathon pace mile run (12 miles continuous with 18 to 20 miles total) 6 weeks to go. then from 5 weeks to go, i build in workouts into the long run progressing to 5+5+3 at steady, marathon, and threshold paces in the last long run 2 weeks out from race day. with 1 week to go, i like to stay sharp with a 13-mile med long run with 3 x 3 miles again at steady, marathon, and threshold paces. these long run workouts are top secret. don't tell anyone! ;)

    • @allheartrc
      @allheartrc 22 години тому

      @@MarioatSA i schedule up to four 2.5-hour runs leading to race day. they are each 1 month apart from each other. the max i want any of my athletes to run is 2.5 hours in one go. so, some of my athletes top out at 21 or 22 miles. it's a mixed bag. some of my athletes top out at the 12 miles continuous with 18 to 20 miles total. some hit their max with 5 or 4 weeks to go. it really depends on how fast the athlete is.

      @allheartrc ahh that is very interesting. Thank you for letting me pick your brain on these things. My goal marathon time for my first marathon in October is sub 3:30 so 2,5 hours seems so comparably short. I suppose there are diminishing returns on time on feet and injury risk etc.

    mk, enjoying the daily videos and watching your family's journey to become better runners by being a little bit better than you were yesterday, every day! i learn a lot from your brief discussions on a running topic too, so i really like the format of your content. i didn't know cole and evan were doing the half, i ended signing up for the half as well so i'll be back-to-backing it with the 5k. don't think i can "race" the half, so i'd probably approach it at what i think you characterize as steady-state with maybe some threshold segments

      hi joel!!! thanks for the encouragement! yes, cole and evan are in the half. haven and i are in the full. let's definitely meet up for a shakeout before the race! i'll post the details closer to race day. cole and evan are also using the half as a training run. looking forward to seeing you again in LB!

    I am mesmerized by how all of you are able to just keep grinding like you do! From the little experience I have, I learned the hard way that breaks are good for me all around after a marathon/ultra training block.

      We definitely take a two week break from workouts after a marathon race. ;)
