Episode 318 - Supro Kingston
Переглядів 1016 годин тому
Thanks to people like Jack White and Dan Auerbach, budget line catalog guitars remain fondly in our conscience as the vibe-laden machines they are. Supro was/is no exception, having crafted some amazing instruments out of little more than a pickup and some fiberglass. Among them was the Kingston, with its buff sand color and swoopy good looks. Enjoy! Like the show? Follow us at these fine estab...

Episode 317 - Airline Upbeat Stereo
Переглядів 714 днів тому
Montgomery Ward produced one of the largest mail order catalogs in the US, starting way back in the 1870s. By the time the 1950s rolled around, they were including electric guitars, like the Upbeat. Our example is a stereo version, and left us scratching our heads more than we thought it would. But it sounds good, and plays well, as most budget instruments built by the Chicago Boys did in the d...

How many good friends do you really have?
Just discovered Krappy! Gotta have one
I really enjoy this conversation....Sara LUND is cool and very accurate in her description of where WE ALL are at concerning improvisation....we are all about playing (my own opinion) and really the deal is that the music is about putting together the elements we are all excited by...Also a very brave and true conversation about the problems of substance abuse with band members....Thanks for posting this...
Gotta agree with you Buzz. Victim of Changes on Unleashed in the East absolutely blew my mind! That album and Sin After Sin got me through a rough couple of years. Rock on Buzz!
If I'm one of three, or one of a thousand, this was a delight to listen to. I've always wanted to know how Mr. Kattner finds inspiration and puts it together into musical magic. Nothing quite so inspiring as the world around you!
really sweet to hear this interview with Nat... thanks so much for sharing and doing this!!
"Seething ill-will towards humanity", a thousand times yes.
I love Brett. He really keeps the conversation going here.
Thank you SO MUCH for this interview!!! It seems to be the only one with Chris about this new LP so far.
To be fair Christians enslaved everyone lol.
Love to own one
incredible interview! when was this? late 2020?
0+2=1 was my gateway when it came out. I worked backwards and forwards from there. I do wish I’d been old enough to see Andy play with NMN. But I missed that era by one tour. Tom was great but it was something different and Andy’s unique talents were missed by my young brain/ears. ❤
This definitely resonates. I’m fifty now so that’s over 35yrs being energized and inspired by Andy’s playing. It wasn’t until the last 10 years or so through trying to learn his parts that I realized how over the top creative & unique Andy’s playing is! I feel like he should at least know what he meant to me and so many others. I’m STILL going back to that stuff for inspiration right now! Not just the guitar playing but the lyrics and vocal performances too. The world could do well with more like him.
Saw him cover for Dale on the Boris tour. Great drummer.
Vera is an amazing artist truly one of the most unique voices ive heard ! Loved the interview Vera you're an amazing woman and artist thank you for making this world a better place.
Thank you for this.
awesome
💙
I lost this guitar back in 2008 I'm looking to get it back
would love a Thinline Jag or Jazz. I couldn't stick around. I need more visuals to hang in with a podcast on UA-cam though. Good luck
That is a very cool looking guitar. I would consider buying one.
So happy I stumbled upon this gem and that all is well in RA world! Got to talk with you both several years ago and can't wait for you to return to Maine! ✊🖤
Watching this vid confirmed my decision to buy a '65 Epi Broadway. Awesome guitar. Thanks guys
What a treat good to know Devon is still doing well thanks for this interview
Love Osees, great interview
Thank you so much! I'm not able to play this yet but at least now I have something that actually seems possible lol
Really lame channel!
Oh Wow, thankyou SO much. I think maybe i have about thirty five of Richard's albums, so also a casual listener! This was so wonderful for me to hear. Such a beautiful, wild artist who does indeed own special!
Spellcheck
Huh?
Her drumming style; Justin and Vern's guitars were like the musical parents of my songwriting in the 90s/early 2ks.
I got a great history with this guitar. Back in 1971, this was the first guitar I bought with my own money. I made and hand tooled leather 'pony tail holders' and sold them for $1 each. My mom used to joke that I had girls lined up around the block to buy pony tail holders. I used to love Hee Haw, Buck Ownes, Roy Clark was a hero to me at the age of 10 or 11... (still is, to be honest.) I sold enough of them to buy this guitar with cash. Around $111.00 with a case, if I recall correctly. In junior high school, my guitar strap broke, and the gutar fell onto the headstock, splitting the neck. I took it to the shop, and they glued the neck back together, but could not match the blue or the red paint on the neck. So it had a couple 'patches' on the back of the neck. I remember seeing the Nirvana Unplugged sessions and saw the Buck Owens. I was like "lookit that - I got that guitar!" I still have this guitar over 50 years later. It has a real 'presence' - a bright, almost banjo-like quality to the sound. Unfortunately, this guitar has suffered quite a bit as I moved back and forth from Denver to Seattle and back. The blue laminate face plate on the headstock has separated from the wood and cracked, which appears to be 'not nunusal' in photos of other Buck Owens Americans. I was curious what kind of wood the guitar is made out of...? I see some info that the top is spruce and the back and sides are Birch, I wonder about the neck...?
Coady is Mount Vernon Skagit County Royalty
sick home team shirt man
Coady is such a cool dude.
This is Barry from RKL and I’m going to say Buzz is 100% full of shit about our stay at my parents house in Houston on RKL’s “Disastour” in 1986. And I thought he was my friend always and we have kind of kept in touch over the years. And I have great respect for them and their longevity kicking ass reinventing themselves constantly. It’s been an awesome ride following their career. Don’t why he made up that story for this video to make me out to be such a dick. My parents were out of town at the time. Abso-fucking-lutly out of town. They did not make the Melvins breakfast the next morning much to my dismay as an unaccommodating shitty host. My parents would have revisited that story with me over the years if it had happened. It did not! I had a moment of self doubt after seeing this, I asked my step dad and Chris Rest and they don’t remember that either. Plus I would not have been such a dick. I wanted to keep it cool at my folks house and not trash the place since they always questioned my life’s decisions at the time anyway. They would have been mostly accommodating since they were the sweetest people and as tolerant of us scuzzy punkers as they could be, but would have questioned an entourage of 9 or 10 people. We were young and a bunch of ragers and RKL was bad enough, I’d only known the Melvins since El Paso so maybe I was reluctant to have so many people there but I certainly welcomed them and I thought we had a great time. What happened was we all took acid and got a bit rowdy like we did, fucking with each other and I guess we scared the Melvins. I remember picking up a cockroach and throwing it at Buzz and it landed in his hair. Living in Texas ya get used to roaches. We then got a little sleep, got up and cleaned up our mess before my parents got home from their vacation and we hit the road. I don’t remember renting John Water’s Desperate Living on my parents credit card then telling them to return it which in turn they threw in the garbage. I would have heard about that later. I don’t even think my parents had a VCR in 1986. I guess I can give Buzz creative props for making up a shit ton of bullshit for this video that perhaps his acid influenced memory conjured up. I’m not sure he dosed with us either that night but I’m 100% sure this story is bullshit and don’t know what I did to deserve being dragged over the coals all these years later. I got along with them fine on that tour. We swapped tapes and sent each other photos from the tour and we’ve always been cool every time I’ve run into them. As an amateur screenwriter and or occasional writer of sorts I know that conflict is what drives a story. You always need a hero and a villain. But that story is bullshit. Maybe cockroaches in the hair affects memories somehow? His giant cockroach flying over the band or feeding a cockroach to hungry fish at some filthy chicks Houston pigsty included? Now get off my lawn you fucking punks.
This whole thing is hilarious. I've heard him tell this story a few times and the details never change.
Barry how hard did Beyond Possession shred on the shows you played together?
I had one that I bought back in the 80's. I had until 2005 when my job cut back so bad I had to pawn it to pay the light bill. I said I'd go back and get work the work pickup...Two years later the work finally pickup. Damn. I keep searching for another ,But in reality the guitar aint all that. But should I see another on eBay under $400.00 ,I might bids on it.
So ugly
Plain Jane guitar
alot of dealers got one. you couldn't just buy one tho. the shop my dad worked at had one.
He nailed Alaska and the stuff reminds me of Pink floyd The Wall.
9:35 and 10:27 I laughed hard
Thanks for the story of the original Coronet. I really thought there were a lot more made especially considering how often they have been popping up on Reverb.
You guys made a great team together
Beautiful, interesting record. Fresh and new. Original sounding.
Is a rickenbocker similar to a rickenbacker?
huge Health fan, glad this got recommended to me! great interview. thanks!
Great interview thanks
Totally under rated guitar player. And I am still trying to figure out how the hell he walks in those boots.
I can't think of any band that has meant more to me than Unwound. If I ever learn to play drums, Sara will be the first person I ask for lessons!
