The ringtone you keep hearing was from back in the day when everyone had Nokia phones. It is actually from a classical guitar piece by Francisco Tarrega.

I had a go at bassoon and clarinet, and I'd say clarinet would be way easier. Bassoon though the cost is prohibitive for a beginner, you can pick up a flute a lot cheaper (which might be crap to play, I wouldn't know). Also you forever look for the "perfect reed" and often have 1 or 2 that are your faves. On the flute you just have a mouth piece with no variable reed to take into account. What has endeared me to the transverse flute is the "Moldau" movement from Ma Vlast from Smetana, what a great beginning on the flutes and even the piccolo gets some a good part later on. Would love if you could put up the beginning of Moldau and play both the parts with yourself through the magic of video editing :D

5th year was already so much better, that airy tone was gone, and by year 12 it's like you're one with the flute singing

I have that beginner tone. I’ve only been playing for eleven months (almost a year on July 22nd), but I feel so defeated. I have watched countless videos on how to improve my tone, but none have been helpful. I have that sort of rough, gravelly sound when playing. How did you fix that? I know breath support is a factor (expanding your stomach whilst adding pressure and tightening abdominals) and long tones, but I would just like some advice. Thank you ❤
