This particular charger would enter a maintenance/trickle charge setting when it decided the battery was fully charged. I use this charger and have successfully brought back a 12V Interstate battery that initially tested via multimeter in the 9's for voltage. This exact model of Viking charger worked as described in the manual: it entered a repair mode when it correctly determined the battery voltage was less than 10.5 V. It seemed to stay in repair mode for >1 hr, then eventually auto switched modes to STD charge. After letting the battery sit disconnected for a week or so in the garage, a multimeter reading said 12.7V. Hooking up this battery charger to it, then powering it on, the charger worked as described in the manual: it determined the battery voltage, displaying 12.7V and the charge level indicator (series of bars) read one bar short of full. It then began charging in the 12VSTD mode. This charge mode continued for about 10-15 minutes when it displayed a full charge level of 12.8V. The red light of the LCD screen went off as well indicating the charger entered the maintainer/trickle charge mode. I've used this on another store branded 12V battery in a car. The battery was only a month or two old but had suffered from parasitic draw from the car it was in and eventually needed to be jumped if it sat for more than a few hours. Put this charger on it disconnected from the car. It began in repair mode owing to the sub 10.5V state of charge of the battery. Let the Viking charger do it's thing overnight, and found it in trickle charge mode on the fully charged battery. The battery now acts normally in the car (better attention was given to the cable connections to the battery, especially the multiple negative/ground connections ending at the battery post. The parasitic draw is gone though the owner may have corrected something elsewhere). The battery tests in the high 12's consistently now. It could just as easily been ruined by the abnormal discharges. Whether the Viking charger saved it is a matter of conjecture, but it did perform as advertised.
Nice!
Great video!!!
Thanks for watching!
That is a U$70 device as you show in your video not 60
Yeah... sorry. We got a AAA discount that reduced the price to 60 but forgot to mention it in the video.

Im looking at a 2000 Amigo auto 4x4 today, real clean $3500 155k mi. Not into offroading just want a decent daily to get me to and from work. Already have a 2018 Mazda CX5 as the main car. Worth getting or is it a headache of a car?
Manual or auto?
Whoops. Sorry. Missed it in your original post. If taken care of those engines will last a while. There's a couple quirks you'll want to stay on top of. Manuals are preferred over the GM-made auto trans for longevity. If you never plan to take it offroad I wonder if there aren't better daily options for that price. Another downside to the Amigo is parts availability.
@TrashPandaGarage I gotcha. Initially I wanted a RAV4 2 door but they're either impossible to find or ridiculously expensive. The Amigo is the closest thing to that with the advantage of having a V6 and removable hard top. I kinda just have a thing for 2 door SUVs that scream '90s'. Only other thing I've found in my low budget so far is a 2014 Mazda CX5 grand touring with salvage title and it's $1500 more than the Amigo.
Banks states this is plug and play. It is NOT! I specifically called prior to purchase and was assured it was and it is NOT! So sad they straight lied to me.
Ugh. Sorry you had that experience. What vehicle?
Nice work buddy!
We forgot to credit “B-Roll” Jarvis for the extra footage.

The X2 AGM battery is excellent; however, the warranty provided by Batteries + has so many exclusions that it is essentially unusable. For instance, if you attempt to make a warranty claim for your X2 battery and its voltage is below 10 volts, it won't be covered under the warranty.
Interesting. I wonder how new that particular warranty clause is.
@ This is what I was sent by email from Batteries+ customer service. There's a warranty policy to follow with the company Batteries Plus reference my complaint regarding their lack of customer service. “There's a warranty policy to follow with the company Batteries Plus. If the battery came in less than 10V, it will not cover under the warranty but the store can try to recover the battery. I will provide the policy below. “ Thank you, Liz
Thanks
You're welcome!
I bought that exact battery today & so far so good it’s doing its thing. Pricey yes but you get what you pay for. It replaced a Die Hard from Advance Auto parts . The die Hard was put in 2021 it lasted all the way up until today . So bit the bullet & went to batteries & got that AGM battery .
Awesome! Hope it treats you well. Too bad the Die Hard didn't last longer than 3 years. Thanks for watching!
@ you’d think the Die hard would last longer. I do keep My vehicle parked in the Garage when I’m not driving. I reside in Ohio & the weather can be unpredictable. It’s a known fact Heat kills a battery then cold .
Quadratec has discontinued these covers but northern light bars offers some, just tried them on these same lights. Fit like a charm.
Good tip! There's definitely still some people looking compatible covers.
Hey I’m in the PNW and curious how the tent (when folded down) does in the rain. Does water leak when it’s closed or does it stay dry after multiple days of rain? I’m considering GFC topper + ground tent vs GFC camper
Sorry for the late reply. I know people's experiences with water intrusion and the GFC camper have been different, especially with older gens. Admittedly my camper is only about 6 months old, but we just had about 10-12 days of straight ran last month up here in my corner of the PNW. I opened up the tent on the first dry day we had after the rain ended and I didn't see a single drop anywhere. I was super impressed.
1/2" ~ 13mm, not 12mm (12.7 actually)
It's late 2024, and I just bought my wife a near-new 2022 ZR2-AEV Bison with the LWN motor that's been sitting in a lady's garage. There are no scratches on any of the skid plates or anywhere else. One thing I'm concerned about is the restrictions on the turbo intake tube. The intake tube restrictions dampen noise but lead to an overspeed (lack of air) of the OEM turbo's operational limits. I just ordered an S&B kit to remedy that situation. So far, we love the truck and the fuel mileage.
Great find on the garage'd Bison. I love my '22 Z71. I wish Chevy would have continued the diesel into the next gen Colorado. Would have loved to get a 23 Trail Boss with the 2.8!
Thanks for the tip. My daughter bought a 2015 JKU last year, so I'll have to check it out. You said to post in the comments what we think potential buyers should look for before buying a JK. I think if you're looking at JK(U)s, you should stop. Look at 4 Runners instead. If a 4Runner just won't do it for you, just remember that the Pentastar engines offer many and costly failure points. Pay a qualified shop with a lot of Pentastar experience check it over before you buy.
Good advice. You had me laughing with the "...stop. Look at 4 runners instead" comment. Has your daughter had any significant issues with her Pentastar since she bought it?
@@TrashPandaGarage I apologize ahead of time, you opened a door for me. I'm happy to say that her Jeep does not have the rusty jack and jack store that you showed us! It was born and raised in a region of the US that doesn't see a lot of snow and ice and salt, so body-wise it's in great shape! It's actually almost pristine. Now to your question...it's a little embarrassing for me, because I obviously didn't vet her purchase thoroughly enough before she bought it. I knew of the oil filter/cooler housing issue and even the cam follower (aka rocker arm) roller issue and determined we were good, even bringing an automotive stethoscope with me and listening for that dreaded valve train tic. 200 miles into ownership the oil filter housing leak showed itself, so I ordered and changed the housing to one made of aluminum, along with Mopar filter element and correct ASE 5W-20 motor oil. After that is when the valve train tic became noticeable. 4 cam shafts and several thousand dollars later the tic was gone. A few other annoyances cropped up, but were relatively easy and inexpensive to deal with. Then...I got a phone call one day from my daughter saying the temperature gauge had gotten past the half way mark, "maybe even to the 3/4 mark". I had her pull into a gas station and let it cool down, then being close to home, drive it home. Sure enough, the coolant level was low. I purchased some correct Mopar coolant and noticed that the coolant in her Jeep was a different color. The 2015 model calls for OAT anti-freeze which in factory fill is purple, and what she had was orange, which may or may not have been aftermarket OAT. I flushed the entire system, noting a little coolant sludge but not bad. I put the correct anti-freeze in it, certain that the problems were gone. WRONG! Much head scratching and belly aching later I began to suspect a head gasket leak, more specifically at the #5 cylinder (pax side, aft cyl). It's then that I took it to a shop that sees a lot of Jeeps, and they were able to verify that diagnosis with certainty. Unfortunately, if these Jeeps see high operating temps, say 240 and above, the block can warp and cylinders actually move several thousands of an inch out alignment. That's what happened to her Jeep. While you might get by with replacing the head gasket long enough to sell the vehicle, it's not a fix. A new Mopar long block is the only certain fix. We faced an ethical decision as well as a practical one. We could not in good conscience cover the issue up and sell it to another unsuspecting buyer, and we had too much money invested in it to have a fire sale. The Jeep now has a new Mopar long block with 100K mile/36 month factory warranty and runs like new. So, lesson learned the hard way: Do your homework better than I did before even thinking about buying one of these. BTW, just as a side note, I got to thinking about the effects an over heated engine can have on an automatic transmission. The fluid looked clean and smelled fresh when she bought the Jeep, but after the over temp it was obviously burned. I changed the filter and refilled the trans. We took it on a road trip last week and I noticed the trans temp stayed around 170 at a prolonged 75mph, which is good. I plan to evacuate the trans fluid and refill the next couple of oil changes just for good measure. If anyone reading this is trying to decide whether to buy a JK or not, I hope my little rant helps. I don't mean to dissuade you, just to prepare you. You take a chance buying any used car, but you can do a better job of hedging your bet than I did.
@@lylekliewer4787 I appreciate the info, for sure. You're absolutely right. People need to know what they're getting into with these things. Your story is further proof of that. It seems like the radiators are prone to cracking and the t-stats are garbage, with aftermarket t-stats being even less reliable. My coolant level was pretty low when I bought the thing. Dealer topped it off during my last warranty trip in to fix the belt tensioner. Good stuff.
The instruction manual is garbage. No understanding or detail about indication lights ( red / green), icon descriptions, winter mode descriptions, the manual is 99% safety information.
It dose have a winter mode possibly try that
Thanks for the tip!

I bought one of these Bauer 20v vacuums, and I rarely use my 8 gallon Ridgid shop vac anymore. The Ridgid is more powerful, but the Bauer is strong enough and the convenience and mobility of the battery pack cannot be overstated. It had no problem sucking up some staples and small nails from a toolbox drawer. I already had a few 5ah batteries from other Bauer tools, so that worked out well. The only thing I’d like to see is a long solid wand with it to reach under my workbench, etc. I may have to buy one or fashion one myself.
@@tomd1914 good feedback. Thanks for watching!
Probably the soft top leaking.
Totally could be.
Excellent video. Subbed.
@@chandleremerine6130 thanks for watching and thanks for the sub! We sure appreciate it!
My Daughter's 2015 wrangler had the flood in the jack compartment due to her leaving the hardtop back window open during a torrential downpour. The angle of the window ramped the water right inside the tailgate area. The jack area is concealed by a plastic storage bin and needs to be lifted in order to access the jack. I found the pool while looking for the source of a mold odor. The jack had some surface rust and had to be sanded and repainted. I hope that you had also looked under the front carpets, JK's still leak around door and roof seals like their predecessors did.
I noticed some water intrusion at the front doors that is resulting in the front carpets getting a little wet. More so on the driver side. Thanks for the heads up, though! It would appear the issue with the water leak into the jack cubby effects both hard and soft tops. We have a soft top on ours.
I had the exact same problem with a 2013 JK Sahara model. Never took if off road and I could never figure out how the water was getting in there. The entire compartment for the jack would fill up with water.
It's nuts. I've still got the drain plug out of it right now. Were you living in a rainy environment when you owned it?
@TrashPandaGarage I live in north central Ohio. When I first discovered it, the entire compartment was full of water and the jack was so rusted I threw it away, along with the folding rod for it. I bought that Jeep new and traded it on a 2020 JL wrangler in May, 2020. No more problems. I have been driving Jeeps since 1975, and I've never had trouble with that with any of the others.
I wish Jeep would do better. They work so hard to get a nice vehicle and they always fall short. It sucks, every time I consider a jeep I see a video like this. Just empty every pocket cause something is always gonna need to be fixed
I feel ya. I went into it knowing the maintenance needs would be higher, but the jack caught me by surprise.
Nice work buddy! Junk each & every part, welcome to the club.

Thanks for the feedback. We’ll try to tone that down a bit in the future.

I wish I could tell you. I don't actually have the lights anymore. Sold the rig they were mounted to.
Looking forward to seeing this come together, man - like the principles you laid out, especially the point about keeping it light. I used to be a Jeep hater too until it suddenly dawned on me one day why people love them so much, so I can relate there as well
The Jeep is growing on me. Even in stock form it's fun to drive around. I'm sure I"ll appreciate it even more after we build it for a while. Thanks for watching!
More videos!!
Bro! We dropped two in one weekend!
@TrashPandaGarage more videos!!! (It's the only thing I can say)
I've charged probably 2 dozen batteries with one of these. But newer smart chargers operate different than constant automatic chargers, & I actually prefer this to my heavy duty old school unit. In the case the battery is drained way down you need to add another constant charger or can even splice a 12v 1amp wall wart in conjunction with this unit it hits 10.5v then this can do it's thing. These are a great bang for the buck & do exactly what they are designed to do
Awesome quick review.

The first name that should come up for canopy campers is dirtbox
@@vwpeacecar Do you have one? I’ve never seen one in person, but I do really like some of the features of the dirtbox. If weight was not a factor they would definitely be high on my consideration list.

@@vwpeacecar Awesome! Outside of my price range @ $20K+, and too heavy for my truck if they made a mid-size Genesis, but should be a super rad setup for you.
The Genesis, as stated on their website is in a league of its own. There’s a dirtbox camper that’s a step down from the Genesis, but that’s still sick and better than any other canopy camper out there. I would choose GFC for price and weight, skipped the rest and go w the regular dirt box.
I've had mine for over a year now. I tried charging a battery with it and it destroyed it, so just thought it was a bad battery. They a few weeks later I tried it onone reading 12.4 over night 10.6 destroyed another. Mine was a little bigger. I don't recommend this brand.

@@TrashPandaGaragethx for the update...my hesitation on upgrading to AGM is based on the same concern. I use a solar charger once a week that charges to 14.4 volts, but my alternator tops out between 14.1 and 14.2.
@@trekfortruth2841 Eventually I plan to put a hood mounted solar panel on the Frontier that will essentially work as a trickle charger of sorts for the starting battery. We have one of those on our Chevy Colorado, which seems to work great.
Love to see a video about your solar charger setup!
