My MK6 TDI jumped the Timing!!
My TDI officially jumped time when the serpentine belt broke and got pulled under the timing cover. What do I get now?

Major Flaw with the MK6 TDI!!!
Переглядів 719 годин тому
My 2011 TDI had the serpentine belt tensioner size and in turn caused the belt to snap and get into the timing cover causing it to jump time. It’s very unfortunate but I’m hoping I can retime it and see if the motor is shot or not. - Let me know if you have any ideas on content I could make! - Don’t forget to Like, Comment, and most importantly Subscribe! - Follow me on Instagram: instagram.com...

Got a check engine light on and found out the egr is clogged so I have it a good cleaning. Hopefully get this thing deleted and tuned soon 😏 - Let me know if you have any ideas on content I could make! - Don’t forget to Like, Comment, and most importantly Subscribe! - Follow me on Instagram: youngwrx_

Installing the Chase Bays power steering kit on my 05 WRX!
That motor is an interference motor, sorry to say. The timing belt needs to be replaced every 100-125k.
Yeah I know the timing belt is fine the accessorie belt broke and got into the timing belt
Sorry to hear about this bro. Hopefully it pulls through
I have oil sipping and collecting into my glow plugs and making it run rich. I was wondering if I can remove the intake manifold and replace the gasket without having to used VCDS? I got a code P0638 and I have already remove the EGR twice and clean it and got that code soon after that work. I haven’t change the valve cover gasket as my girlfriend’s car has 160K miles. I also would like to replace the injector seals since that will have to be removed to replace the valve cover gasket but since I don’t have the VCDS I’m scare I’ll screw my injectors pressure!!!
Nice I got another Forester. A 2006
Great little video, thanks for sharing! Can you also share the fault code you had? I've currently got intermittent P0121 (throttle) and P2425 relating to the EGR. Cheers!
5:00 copper pads under the injectors?did you manage to solve the problem?
hey quick question where do you get your rims and wheels they look awesome on those and what size are those
Fitment industries they are 18x8.5 I can’t remember the offset right now
👍.
Did you have to do any calibrations on VCDS or OBDEleven after you re-installed everything?
If you disconnect the battery, you usually have nothing to do. Think of it as a surgery, if the car is asleep and wakes up just like before, why would it need programmimg?
Great vid. Thank you.
Conveniently left out the lower bolt part on the egr cooler. Son of witch!😂
I have the same old oil deposits pooling around injectors. Have you found the fix? The injectors have been resealed so the issue lies somewhere else. I was thinking its either a faulty valve cover gasket (oil seems to copy the gasket perimeter as well) or a bad oil filler neck gasket.
Hello, I also have a engine light on the dashboard and I think it's the EGR too, after cleaning it, did the engine light disappear or did you have to erase it with an OBD2 PC ?
Yes please lmk too I have exactly the same but if I can clean and not have to buy a new one would be great
We’re you able to get the ASV, that’s the anti shudder valve .. ie tdi throttle body off with only loosening the screw clamp on the intake hose? I recently tried to take off the ASV/EGR on my tdi but I couldn’t get the hose off the ASV.. probably need to remove it from the turbo as a whole to get enough movement.. that’s a bad design by VW to not have any movement in that intake hose.. otherwise good video, did the EGR fault clear?
Yes I just loosed the hose clamp and put a screw driver in between the hose and throttle body/ASV and worked it off. It wasn’t too bad doing it that way. Yes it cleared the fault. I did end up just deleting the egr and dpf a few months later.
@@YoungWRX Getting prepared for doing 2 of these. I won't delete EGR... pretty much bullshit all claims. My problem is how far to go, but I will decide when I see EGR. Do I 1) clean like you? 2) Replace EGR;s as not much cost and I get gaskets. 3) Replace throttle body (EGR and ASV). 4) Clean or replace intake cooling pipe as well? 5) Remove intake manifold and clean that and head inlets.
@gesheepistemology8050 from what I understand you don’t really need to clean the manifold/valves but I just cleaned the egr and it lasted awhile but it did come back up that’s when I decided just to delete it along with the dpf.
@@YoungWRX where is the DPF and how do you delete that?
@@YoungWRX mine are 240km and 160km, no problems or errors codes, just preventative clean/replace.
After watching MANY vids that didn't help me I finally found yours. Thank you for ALL the info and great video work, much appreciated! I'm going to attempt this project on my 2011 JSW now. I also have that oil issue on top of my valve cover..need to do some research on cause/fix. Cheers
Glad it helped! I had someone comment that it might be injector seals. I have not had time to change them and see
How many miles? I'll be taking my anti-shudder valve out this weekend to do the thermostat so I might as well add this job.
I’m debating if I want to try this on mine or just let a shop deal with it. I actually just need to get to the asv/ throttle body I have a P0638 engine code. That big rubber hose is giving me pause though. A bit concerned I won’t be able to get it off or back on….
I had that code as well before I cleaned it I believe. It’s really not too bad of a process
No start video at the end? 😢
Thanks alot, mate
Is thats 2litre or 1.6 ?
It’s a 2.0
Cbdc
Did you ever get the delete kit? How did that go?
Yes I did I’ve been meaning to make a video on it but haven’t had time. It was pretty easy to do over all I’d say and I get a little bit better fuel mileage and obviously sounds a lot better
Which tune did you go with?
Also, which delete kit did you get?
I went with Malone stage 2 which is thru tunezilla now also got the dsg tune. I went with raw tech for the exhaust/down pipe I’ve heard people say they are too expensive but the quality is worth it in my opinion!
Just got the rawtech kit. I am really happy with it. Install was totally reasonable.
Hi, great video! Did cleaning it sort the problem ?
Yes it did
You may find that the injector seals need replacing
What makes you think that?
You will get a misfire code from the injectors if it is leaking from injectors research upper engine seals
These cars should be reliable
FWIW: I just swooped up my buddy's one owner 2010 GTI with almost 200k miles on it. I literally flew across the country and then drove it back. It burned out the headlamps by the time Sunday night came and I had to drive with only running lights on the front with the fog lamps on and just followed other vehicles a few hundred feet back to make it home. I drove for nearly 16 hours each on Sat and Sun and she had drank about a quart of oil. I got home and ordered about $300 worth of various maintenance and replacement items, including new HID headlamps, a Euroswitch and OBDEleven dongle to turn off the god forsaken DRLs. That should help get more life out the HID headlamps. I also got the DSG filter and Valvoline DCT fluid off Rockauto shipped for $75 and of course engine oil/filter. My buddy gave me a new fuel filter, and air breather with the car to install. I got 26 mpg with the A/C on going from California to NM at about 75 to 80 mph and about 28 mpg through NM and West Texas going 80 to 85 mph. I did a lot of drafting starting in East Texas and averaged 32 mpg with the A/C on until Sunday night when I backed off because the headlights were not working and tried to follow the slowest person on the road (Atlanta holy hell slowest person was going about 70 mph).
Most reliable GTI ever made was the Mk4 24v GTI VR6. I've had mine for 21 years as my daily, with NO issues whatsoever! TWENTY ONE YEARS! Incredible.
I’d love to have a mk4
Bravi!!!🎉
If you stay on top of your maintenance it will be forever reliable
Listening to you speak is pure torture. Did you quit high school? FARKING farmer's son.
All things that you have said in video are common problems for mk6 gti and you need to be ready for it. Im also proud owner of mk6 gti and first things that I did on it were cleaning valves, pcv, new coils and plugs and valve cover gasket. Now 1 year and 15k miles later without any problems and I enjoy it
100 %
That’s epic that you and your dad did all that
Keep up the great work the intake clean vid was top 👍
Thanks!
vomissement
Wer sich keinen gti leisten kann holt sich nen gtd
This is a tdi
Keep your car, its worth it. Spend a little extra $$$ to keep it going.
I ended up selling it and getting a tdi. It’s originally what I wanted and I like it a lot more so it’s a win win. The gti was intended to be a daily driver anyways so I didn’t want to dump a lot of money into it.
@@YoungWRX grats on the new car!
Thanks
I am curious why would you want a TDI over a GTI?
For it being a daily driver I just wanted the bit more reliable option and I would say that’s the tdi. Just my opinion. It’s been good to me so far
I have a 2011 mk6 GTI. I had to get an updated intake manifold, valves cleaned, and rear main seal. Your car is fine, VW GTI's are money pits but if you do the work the engine will keep going.
Where did you place the jack when lifting it from the front?
I guess it’d be the front subframe. Behind the oil pan where that lower trans/engine mount is bolted too
@@YoungWRX thank you
I bought my mk6 gti.. already spent over $1,600 in repairs ☹️ still love my golf though. I used to own a mk3 gti vr6.. always going to miss that car
That looks sick
Thanks man it’s gettin there
No before and after shots? Did you end up using the walnut media?
I had a before shot but forgot to get one after I cleaned it up. I just used that valve cleaner spray and some picks and brushes it worked pretty goo. Mine wasn’t terrible tho so if it was any worse the walnut media probably would have been the way to go.
Great video! Good basic info about the engine…I have a 2012 MK6 I bought in 2018…I have 155,000 on it now…zero maintenance!! Just standard oil changes…new tires…and one time a rock cracked my windshield…I replaced the windshield…it’s running so good I don’t want to bring it in for the valve cleaning and timing chain tensioner…if it ain’t broke don’t fix it !! Love GTIs even if it did have a lot of problems I get them fixed! No other car has the same driving feel as VW GTI !!
If your GTI is from 2012, you might have the updated version of the timing chain tensioner that is not known to fail like the ones in the 2010 and 2011 Mk6 GTIs. Worth a check sometime, though. A valve cleaning never hurts, but you could technically wait until the carbon causes misfires before getting it done.
Might sound like kind of a dumb question but how do you know when the valves are fully closed? Also which way do you turn the crank? Don’t wanna potentially screw anything up. Changing my injectors this weekend and wanna do a carbon clean at the same time. Thanks!
From what I’ve been told you usually want to turn the crank clocks wise. For the valves you kind of just have to look in there and you should be able to see when they are fully seated. If you want to you could just crank it over a few timing and see when one of them is all the way closed then just match that height on each one if that makes sense.
@@YoungWRX yea makes sense. Watched a few more vids and now I feel more confident. Thanks bro!
I just got a GTI mk6 2011 TSI 2.0 should i keep it or its not worth it ?
I think the one I got just wasn’t taken care of and they can be good cars. I would recommend doing a few maintenance things such as timing chain/timing chain tensioner unless it’s been done recently maybe check the pcv those can clog up from what I’ve seen. Maybe someone else can chime in with more info.
Mk 7.5 is much more reliable gti
It’s nice
Upload them 🙏🏻
These cars aren't that bad, but you have to maintain them. There's not as much of a neglect buffer as other cars, like Hondas for example. They have some issues for sure, but nothing really major. I've got over 165k miles on mine with a K04 and tune making over 300 wheel hp and it's still going strong. Plus, you have the TSI engine unless it's a Golf R. The first year for the TSI is 2009 in the final year of the MK5. 4 general failure points of the TSI has are the timing tensioner, the water pump, the intake manifold and the PCV system. There are revisions on all these parts that drastically improve the life span of these engines.
Thanks for the info. I definitely agree on the maintenance thing and I think it just wasn’t taken care if like it should have been before I got it.
@@YoungWRX That happens a lot. It sucks to get a poorly maintained car you have to do damage control on
BS, these cars are a ticking time bomb past 100k, if DSG FW, will need flywheel replacement after 100k, transmission fluid every 40k at least. Balance shafts wear out at 100k with the clogged screens design, the same for the cam bridge. The intake cam fails from wear, the water pump, oil pump. After 100k, unless you work on the repairs yourself, it will incur easy 5k in repairs. They also suffer from bad control rings, creating excessive valve carbon buildup, and the intake manifold flaps fail at 100k or less. And before I forget, the timing chain and tensioner, and many models suffer from the dreaded airbag error code. Try to sell It through any online buying store, Caravana, CarMax, you will get loose change. The wheel bearings maybe will last around 80k miles. I replaced all four of mine, only 110k miles, for the second time!!!!
When I bought mine the engine was also crap. And I had to rebuild the whole engine now it runs smoothly and i service it🎉
I wouldn’t own anything else and that’s saying a lot
Maybe mine just wasn’t taken care of previously
@@YoungWRX who cares man you own it now it’s up to you to make it better keep up the hard work and don’t give up top g
