The Starkiller: Iron - How the Universe Works: Extreme Stars
Iron is a starkiller for stars at least 1.5 times larger than our sun. This is science fact, not science fiction.
"In the world of science fiction, there are many ideas about what a starkiller machine might be like. Strangely enough, it's as run-of-the mill as something as iron. To a star, iron is the most dangerous element in the universe. It's poison. Iron absorbs energy. From the moment a massive star creates iron, it has only seconds to live. The star is trying to dump energy into that iron ball and trying to make it fuse, but it can't. And so that ball is robbing the star of energy, and it's that energy that is supporting the star itself. So, as soon as that iron starts to be created in the core, the star has written its own death sentence. The battle between gravity trying to crush the star and fusion trying to blow it apart is over. With iron, fusion hits a dead end. Gravity always wins. The iron core collapses. The outer layers of the star slam down into it, and a huge explosion is generated. It's the single most violent event in the universe -- a supernova. In just a few seconds, supernovas create more energy than our sun ever will. Within a couple seconds after beginning to make iron, the star explodes in a supernova. So, think about that when you're holding one of your iron frying pans. The iron killed a star in just a few seconds -- dangerous stuff."
"A critical situation arises when iron accumulates in the core, since iron nuclei are incapable of generating further energy through fusion." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chandrasekhar_limit
"The first type of supernova happens in binary star systems. Binary stars are two stars that orbit the same point. One of the stars, a carbon-oxygen white dwarf, steals matter from its companion star. Eventually, the white dwarf accumulates too much matter. Having too much matter causes the star to explode, resulting in a supernova. The second type of supernova occurs at the end of a single star’s lifetime. As the star runs out of nuclear fuel, some of its mass flows into its core. Eventually, the core is so heavy that it cannot withstand its own gravitational force. The core collapses, which results in the giant explosion of a supernova. The sun is a single star, but it does not have enough mass to become a supernova." www.nasa.gov/audience/forstudents/5-8/features/nasa-knows/what-is-a-supernova.html

Great movie🙏I mean, look what we can achieve! Moon landing,Space station,Space shuttle, Space probes to mars, Voyager1 and 2! But we are ruining it with: We are left wing,we are best....we are right wing and better.... Just let's trash the nation with fighting each other, instead of working together for the best for all! Strong female character saves kids in space. No agenda, no shoving it in your face. No one cared about any of it. Now the world is upside down and everything has an agenda. The 80s were truly great.

One of my FAVORITE movies from growing up. I was 13 when it came out. I saw it in the UK though, because I lived in London from 1984-1987. As an American living abroad at that time, it was nice to see the tribute this was to the The Challenger disaster. I felt like it was a nice homage. Still even holds up today, and is a VERY important reminder of what the world of space exploration was/still is.

It is definitely a good movie. I can rap watching it every single time. It will come up on the TV on cable I would always watch it and I also had the VHS tape of it and wore it out. I thought I was about ready to drive my mom nuts on it because every single time, it would be on or if I wanted to watch it on VHS. It was there and I Telya from start to middle to finish. It is really good and it makes you think not like what they have now which is nothing but a bunch of crap. Movies and TV shows rolled into one and that’s sad but at least we have these movies made back in the Day to remind us a better days and we can watch them any time we want and have a nice day

"We have overheat on Booster B...Light Booster A godd*mn it, light this or we're going to explode!!..What's happening???!!!..Light it or they're gonna die!..Go for Launch NOW!!...Light it!!! My God, we have liftoff!" Probably two minutes of the best dialogue, timing, lack of music and action I've every experienced in a movie. All Actors/Actresses were spot on! Every time I see this scene it just gets my heart racing and my adrenaline pumping. When Kelly Preston yells out...What's happening???!! WOW.

Never did like this space launch system that is the reason for nearly 75% of all fatalities - on two fatal missions - than the combined total of all USA/USSR/Russian/All other nation’s fatalities that have died in EVERY OTHER type of accident in space (14 shuttle deaths out of a total of 15 astronauts and 4 cosmonauts combined). While I liked the adventurous premise of this movie, even Hollywood couldn’t make a movie about it without a nearly fatal flaw occurring on a systems test! I worked with 21 of the first 22 missions of the STS in the early 80’s. NASA went with the hugely flawed and highly over budgeted shuttle program instead of the BDR (Big Dumb Rocket) system that they could have used without fatalities and DID use after the STS system program was terminated. Besides, Kate was a hottie so I don’t consider the movie a total failure.

This was just crazy enough to believe could happen when I was a kid. I mean if NASA did put people, and kids, in the shuttle during a main engine test. And this weird situation happened. But it was the coolest scene ever in history from the mind of a little kid in the 80s who’s just learning about Space in School.
