That's really cool Tom , you had so many more options and triangle variations during the first sub, really cool thanks for sharing, that's really fun
Awesome stuff!
so slick!
Do you ever play with the hip kimura?
No, I don’t even know what that is. I’ll have a look!
Really fun roll Tom, missing our rolls. When are you visiting Florida?
Wow i started implementing these tactics, and noticing a huge improvement in my game. I gotta watch your updated series now lol
I didn't know Toby Maguire did jiu jitsu.
I like the idea of 8 person divisions, so they can add more classes. But I think the million is a big part of the branding, if they can't afford to do it I think they should keep the number of divisions down. If they can only do 2 divisions, they should do a men's and a women's. I also think they should cut the heavyweights and replace them with lightweights.
I watch both shows. I personally enjoyed ADCC a little more cause there were so many superfights, upsets, and new stars. Also I like being able to swap between matches. When one is exciting, you don't have to stay on one that's more slow. I'm definitely gonna keep my eye on Pixley and Owen Jones, they both impressed me a lot. Also Adele 👀👌
Any thoughts on Pato pulling guard 2x? I was wondering if it was strategy or if in the moment he forgot about the -1? I figure the latter can’t be what it was.
I think he was just confident in his ability to attack from guard. It puts you under more pressure and tires you out though, when down on points for a long time.
ADCC Kaynan is a monster
Great analysis, it’s nice to hear a non-biased intelligent expert. I thought your analysis was spot on. Thank you for the great content, you got a new sub
Great insights Tom. All the best with the podcast. I remember chatting with you about it in the car from Elgin to Aberdeen. Cheers. Ross.
Love your commentary and perspective. Would love for you to cut in clips it would make it even better. ❤
Thanks! Will make some shorter clips in the near future.
Nicky was injured for the last 4 weeks. Watch Luke Thomas, Dimas interview.
That makes sense. Unfortunate
I scored CJI, KR vs AT under a scoring system incorporating the best rules of wrestling, judo and bjj: Kade Ruotolo = 54 points (RD1 14, RD2 24, RD£ 16) Andrew Tackett - 51 points (RD1 13, RD2 13, RD3 25) {This was the highest scoring bout of any CJI bout} 2 Points - Submission Attempt (Must be close) 2 Points - Guard Pass 4 Points - Takedown (Must be grounded, if opponent pops back up this is not a takedown. If you sit and butt scoot or pull guard your opponent will receive points for the takedown) 4 Points - Mount (Front or back, must have at least one hook in) 4 Points - Escape from submission attempt and get back to feet 4 Points - Reverse position from bottom to top 1 Point - Pin (For every 10 seconds you're grounded your opponent will receive 1 point, this timer will restart during close submission attempts or when in 50/50 positions. Please let me know if you approve or disapprove of this scoring system.
Very interesting! Hard to keep track of during the match though. Thanks!
@@tomhalpinjiujitsu Thamk you. Of course youre correct, which is why someone on the broadcast is paid for this. I think the point is that using this scoring system anyone can rewatch the bouts and know 100% who won and who lost
I highly agree with the importance of aesthetics and professionalism akin to the standards set in tennis. Imagine a no-gi submission grappling equivalent of Wimbledon?
My problem with the Levi vs Kade match is submission attempts are worth more as an attacking movement than a guard pass "attempt" where they don't really come to passing guard (classic Atos strategy for influencing judges/refs).
Great recap Tom. Totally agree with the professionalism (as an ex tennis player). Do you think that the straight seated guard player should somehow be penalised? (You may mention it later in the video).
I think the current rules penalise this enough. I.e it’s easier for top player to initiate more and score with the judges
A good recap - positive but fair
I really think Levi stepped off the gas in the third and thats why he lost. He should have capitalized on that nice single leg he came up with. He really could have passed Kade's guard at one point. I believe if theh run it back Levi will win. If he focuses on those things with those passive players he can beat Kade or anyone in the world honestly.
Nice one Tom. Tbh, I thought Levi won and thought it was just bias against the style, but you made quite a good point about needing a disincentive for guard pulling from a competitive dynamics point of view. Never heard this framing before and was always very annoyed by the "it will never work in the streets" nonsense.
Production was on point, commentary was on point and the event was agile and with good flow… I understand they needed the eyes but the Craig- Gabi match was a bit cringe even tho the aftermath was beautiful . Most important the matches were awesome and that -80 tournament was fire!!
Great recap - It was nice to see that Gabi was able to rehab her image in this event. I feel like she got a lot of undeserved hate while she was competing (potentially due to Mackenzie’s popularity) and I feel a lot of people came away with a much better impression of her.
Alley was awesome 1 match at a time was great and just the overall vibe was so cool
Great breakdown Tom!
Any opinions on how poor Nicky looked?
Excellent analysis. Many thanks!
Well well well, here i thought Hulk was going to take it. We will see
Great listen
Nice breakdown ...
Awesome stuff
my moneys on hulk hogans
Personally, I don't like rounds in jiu jitsu because it takes long already just to get it to the ground sometimes. Hopefully the fights don't stagnate.
Agreed about rounds in general, but I think the walls will get the matches to the ground much more than a mat setup with an out of bounds reset.
@@yeahimeaniguess Hope So
Looking forward to seeing how the rounds play out as well. At least there’s incentive to finish quickly if you get a good position, before the round is over.
Great analysis Tom! Plenty of incredible matchups as the bracket unfolds!
Yes Tom!! Much more of this please
The only analysis worth listening to
Sweet little detail.
Great thanks for sharing 💪
This is really good , please add a few of the others
thank you Tom for putting this together. I teach in a small school in Argentina and we put this to good use :)
Great vid. However there is noise. Also camera is too far away and it’s hard no distinguish which hand is which. Maybe use different color long rash guards
Thanks a ton
You summarize the crelinstein and danaher stuff extremely well thanks for posting
Brother I saw your 1st series years ago and went to find them to refresh myself, only to be pleasantly surprised you have a 2.0 and now 3.0. I just went on a binge to reinforce the fundamentals and want to thank you for your service to the JJ community! Super appreciate the conciseness and consistency throughout the years. Question, have you ever been able to explore the rear kata gatame as another weapon?
👍👍💪
👍👍
So glad this series is back
