Wrong information. There seems to be a misunderstanding. You might not be aware that Sri Lankan Tamils and Indian Tamils living in Sri Lanka are two distinct groups. According to the Sri Lankan constitution and population census, Sri Lanka is home to four main ethnic groups and several minor ethnicities. The primary ethnic groups are Sinhalese, Sri Lankan Tamils, Muslims, and Indian Tamils. Sri Lankan Tamils are the native Tamil people of Sri Lanka who have a history of 2200 years, primarily residing in the northern and eastern provinces, as well as on the northwestern coast. Historically, they can be further subdivided into Jaffna Tamils of the North, Batticaloa Tamils of the East, and Negombo and Puttalam Tamils of the West. Among the Jaffna Tamils, one-third are Jaffna Vellalar (farmers) and another third are Karaiyar the remaining third constitutes all the others. Estimates from the 1960s indicated that Jaffna Vellalar constituted about half of the Jaffna population, while Karaiyar made up 20%. This demographic shift occurred because most immigrants from Jaffna to Western countries during the war period were Jaffna Vellalar, due to their higher socioeconomic status. Consequently, Jaffna Vellalar now form a large majority among the Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora in many countries. The Eastern Tamils in Batticaloa and Ampara are mostly Mukkuvar, and Eastern Muslims are historically closely related to the Mukkuvars. A significant number of Tamil-speaking Coast Veddas also reside in the Eastern Province. Mukkuvars in the Puttalam region of the island's western part are predominantly Roman Catholics, while Catholic Tamil Paravars are found in the Mannar region. Other notable castes among Sri Lankan Tamils include Koviyar, Iyer, Madapalli, Nattuvar, Kadaiyar, Seniyar, Santar, Seerpadar, Kammalar, Ambattar, Kusavar, Vannar, Maraiyar, Nalavar, Pallar, Paraiyar, Thimilar, Turumbar, and Siviyar. The Colombo Chetties and Paravar people in western Sri Lanka, both South Indian migrant castes from the Portuguese colonial period, no longer identify as Tamils. Instead, they are recognized as distinct ethnicities in the Sri Lankan census. Indian Tamils primarily live in the central hill country districts and in the capital, Colombo. They mostly reside as a minority among the Sinhalese, except in the Nuwara Eliya district, where they form a majority. Their presence in Sri Lanka dates back approximately 200 years when British colonialists brought their ancestors as coffee and tea estate workers from Tamil Nadu. Over time, additional Indian Tamils from Tamil Nadu arrived for business purposes and established themselves in various towns across Sri Lanka. They follow the South Indian caste system, which resembles that of a Tamil Nadu village. Among the Indian Tamil population in Sri Lanka, Praiyar and Pallar are numerically significant groups. Most indentured estate laborers, recruited from landless classes, began arriving in 1827, particularly during the Great Famine of 1877 in the Madras Presidency. Higher caste individuals, such as Maravar, Kallar, Agamudaiyar, Mudaliyar, and Mutharaiyar, occupy the upper rows of line rooms and typically perform respectable jobs, including factory work and tea grinding, while also engaging in business activities. Conversely, lower caste workers, including Paraiyars, Pallars, Sakkiliars, Dhobis, and barbers, live in dwellings situated away from the center, known as the lower lines. In the early years of these Indian Tamil estates, Pandarams initially served as temple priests. Business communities from Tamil Nadu began settling in major towns such as Colombo, Kandy, and other areas with significant Indian Tamil populations. Although these communities form a minority among Indian Tamils, their influence in business is considerable. These communities include Chettiars, several Vellalar groups such as Saiva Vellalar, Arunattu Vellalar, Soliya Vellalar, and Kongu Vellala Goundar, as well as other castes like Nadars, Kammalars (also known as Asaris), and Paravars. Most of these business communities still maintain marriage and business contacts with their relatives in Tamil Nadu. Though the war conditions didn't affect the Indian Tamils living in Sri Lanka, the 1983 anti-Tamil pogrom had a significant impact on them. On the night of July 24, 1983, anti-Tamil rioting began in Colombo, the capital city, and then spread to other parts of the country. Over the course of seven days, predominantly Sinhalese mobs attacked, burned, looted, and killed Tamil civilians. The violence extended to include all Indians, with even the Indian High Commission being attacked. Despite a curfew, the police were either unable or unwilling to enforce it. Rioters used voter registration lists to target Tamils, indicating prior organization and government cooperation. The violence spread to Indian Tamil-dominated towns such as Kandy, Matale, Nawalapitiya, Hatton, Badulla, Bandarawela, Hali-Ela, Welimada, Lunugala, Passara, Kandapola, and Nuwara Eliya. According to the Tamil Centre for Human Rights (TCHR), 5,638 Tamils were massacred, 2,015 were injured, 466 went missing, 670 were raped, and 250,000 were internally displaced. Over 18,000 houses and numerous commercial establishments were destroyed, prompting hundreds of thousands of Tamils to flee the country. Before the riots, Indian Tamils controlled much of the business in the hill country towns, and most of the properties destroyed in the riots belonged to them. Many Indian Tamil business owners sold their properties at low prices to Muslims and fled to India, returning to Sri Lanka after several years. Although Indian Tamils lost their prominence in retail trading, they continue to control the wholesale trade in Sri Lanka from Colombo. Notable business communities among the Indian Tamils in Sri Lanka include the Arunattu Vellalar in Kandy and Hatton, the Thevars in Nuwara Eliya, and the Chettiars in Matale. In other regions, the Saiva Vellalar are prominent in business. Politically, the Thevars have historically been the dominant force among Indian Tamils in Sri Lanka, largely due to their significant presence in the Nuwara Eliya district and the influential Thondaimans, who have led the Indian Tamil community through three generations. The Thondaimans, part of the Kallar caste (a subgroup within the broader Thevar community), are connected by an extended family relationship to the royal family of Pudukkottai in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, some smaller Telugu and Malayalee castes, such as the Reddiyar and Nair, are also present among Indian Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Nadar is a Title or caste, under which various sub caste are there, each sub caste have there own profession. Nelemaikarrars (tax collectors), Nattathi (jamindars), Gramani (village cheiftain), Nadan (provision store keepers), karukkupattayathar Shanar (palm cultivation including tappers), kalla or pulukka Shanar (considerd low among the Nadars). So don't restrict to one sub caste.
