Lumpy Cam
Приєднався 4 бер 2018
Lumpy Cam is a channel that shows the fun that I have in my shed. Some light machining and fabrication, mostly on older vehicles for myself and a few select friends here in Hervey Bay - Queensland.
I have a mechanical trade background and have worked for approximately twenty - five years in heavy industry in many different roles.
Come on in and have a look around...

Find this quite interesting in adapting the C4 to the 3Rz bellhousing. I have Tacoma with a 2TR-fe and want to bolt a Mustang T5 to it for better internal transmission ratios, as 1st is a stump puller and quite widely spaced from 2nd gear; the rest are just fine though.
Haven't forgotten the input shaft ;) Will let you know when I have some
Haha, no stress. I'm pretty busy and it's not holding anything up. When they're ready just message. Thanks mate.
Watching your build videos, Awesome job. Want to ask about the spacers on the bearings that go on top of the pinion planetary gears. Looks like they are made out of brass ?? Is this material strong enough to last in this area ?? Might be a dumb question,And is it necessary ?? I understand it is to keep the bearings centered. I have not seen other people do this, and maybe this is one of those secrets they’re not showing or telling you. I want to rollerzied my planetary, and not spend a lot money. Obviously you’re a machinist and have the machinery to do all of this. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Your process was backwards. It would have been much easier to reduce the OD of the bushing material, then bored and locktited it into the aluminum bushing before turning it to the final diameter for the case. Plus, you could have then fixed the ID in the lathe rather than having to set it up in the mill. Thanks for the video. Let us know how it all works out with the rest of the build. Cheers!
How much did you cut out for the bearing and washers ?? And what did you cut out for clearance/ breathing room so the gear can float in the housing ?? Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome, keep the mod video’s going. Like to see all the mods you do to rollerzied the C4. I would do a harden input shaft, for insurance. 👍🏻👍🏻
Ive been considering something like this for a future project, but id like to keep it as a strainer perhaps use one of those cleanable filters like a wire mesh filter, might be less of an issue on suction side with a high flow pump.
Great job Mate
Back in the day I spent time rebuilding and repairing my lambretta and the lad in the same street just rode his Vespa P200E so that tells you how good the Vespa was. Nice upgrades and looking forward to seeing how well it runs. Cheers Richie 🇬🇧
Muy buen trabajo
In your video you mentioned an oil cooler you had ran? How did it work and would you happen to have any pics?
Both of these pages are great resources for the xs650. thexscafedotcom.wordpress.com/ xs650.org.au/ Information about oil coolers can be found here at the old xs650 Australia club page - old.xs650.org.au/Technical%20Info/tech3.html
Cool idea but i wouldnt want to lose my starter
Considering the greater capacity and fineness of filtration, mightn't this make the primary filter redundant?
Yes
Absolutely fabulous. And very generous of you to share, thank you.
Know anyone who has an extra Delkron Inner primary laying around?? Lol
delkron does lol
I have a vtwin new still wrapped!
Wow! If you made more I would buy one. I’m sure others would too.
What about the xj650 triple? Have you seen it's transmission of any benefits
Nice work , Great help and info
Have you made this wheel fit an XS650? I'm considering doing it myself, looking for more info.
really cool.
Can you just scrap it .do you need it
Brilliant piece of work you’ve done there.
Nice work. I also removed the starters from my bikes and fitted a spin-on filter but it never occurred to me to put it where the starter used to be. If only Yamaha had fitted an electric starter that worked and an oil filter that actually filtered the oil. As you mention, another bike made its debut in 1969 and it had both of those things. It also had a clutch that's actuator didn't get in the way of a bigger trans sprocket because it was on the other side and no shock absorber springs to break because it had a cush-drive in the rear wheel, and a crank that's rods unbolted from it and that could be rebuilt any number of times without a press. That said and for all its shortcomings, the XS-650 remains the greatest bike ever made.
Thanks David, it was a solution that suited my needs at the time for my bobber. The sump plate spin on filters while being a good substitute for the original and additionally are best suited to those who retain their starter motors are easily damaged if struck by anything. Sadly I've nearly sold all my xs650 stuff now, just thought I'd put it out there as an alternative for people to consider...
Bsa??
I'm the secretary of the XS650 Club of Australia. Do you offer these in kit form? Happy to discuss this with you secretary@xs650.org.au
Hi Anthony, sorry no I don't. I've sold most of my xs650 stuff now and only have 1 x long rod motor left here for sale.
Sell as a Kit
You should make them!
Hi, I just bough one XS 650 from the 82, it’s almost imposible to find the originals filters here in Costa Rica 🇨🇷, I would be so thankful if you can send me more info about your modification, in the 0il filters, maybe a step by step guide ore something, my email is Toto.cr.94@gmail.com thanks for your time and nice job here 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great solution and well made!
Do you recommend the xs650 277 degree rephase?
Yes. However, it all comes down to what your budget is. To get the cam and ignition needed for the modification as well as having a crank shaft rephased and possibly rebuilt it can get quite expensive. I do all my own work so labour component for me is not a factor that I have to consider. If you're paying someone to do the work for you it could get expensive. There's plenty of information on the xs650.com Forum about rephasing have a look there for further information. Good luck with your build.
