      Pegs, plugs or bungs. Depends what you call it. Check out this video, and you know what to do. Good luck with your boat. ua-cam.com/video/v9m73_H8TCc/v-deo.htmlsi=3eeSW2mMMXSmOL0f

      Thanks for the hint. Would you do also inside? Or just in the outer planks. Just had a look at this video and seems they've done also in the ribs ua-cam.com/video/Jz2m0s3XuVU/v-deo.htmlsi=TXQQNUNfBJP5q5zW

    I just found your channel and have watched all of your boat restoration videos, thanks for posting them. I really like how you do your work. What wood are you using for the planks? And thanks for adding the English subtitles.

    • @ysteineek3976

      Thanks! I'm using pine wood for the planks. The boat is built with Oregon Pine planking or Douglas Fir as you may call it. But it's too expencive and the Norwegian Pine wood is a good replacement.

    Beautifully done with care and attention. Are you happy with stainless screws or will you be using silicon bronze? I know which is more economical. Happy New Year! Regards Peter

      Happy new year ! These screws are bought many years ago, and I can't afford to buy 2000 silicon bronze screws. And every screw in this boat is A4 (316) stainless steel.

    I have been in the boating industry in the USA my whole life, love to see the rebuild of an old wooden boat. I was extremely disappointed to see you using Stainless Steel fasteners in this boat, more importantly Stainless Steel sheet metal screws. Given the age of this boat I have to assume it was originally fastened with silicone bronze wood screws or copper rivets ?

    • @ysteineek3976
      @ysteineek3976 Рік тому

      Originally the planking was fastened with brass screws over the waterline, and steel( not stainless) below the waterline. This caused a lot of damage when they rusted. I had to replace 60 ribs. I'd like to use bronze screws and bolts all over, but it's too expencive. So I use Stainless A4/ 316 screws and bolts throughout the hole boat. And I can by them at the local store.

    My father and I restored a 1958 mahogany Knarr in the 1970's. Beautiful boat! Sadly, after 2 years of sailing her, a tree fell on the Knarr, in the boatyard. She sits on the bottom of Lake Ontario now. I am so happy you are saving this one!

  • @robertparrish5542
    @robertparrish5542 Рік тому

    why are you not using Brass screws ??

    • @ysteineek3976
      @ysteineek3976 Рік тому

      Brass not very long lasting in sea water. Bronze would be the best choice. The next best is sea water proof stainless steel . Wich I startet with many years ago because it's less expencive. And now, I will use only that because mixing with other materials will cause galvanic corrosion.

    I like the laminated floors a very practical solution was that epoxy or urethane adhesive ?

    • @ysteineek3976
      @ysteineek3976 2 роки тому

      I used polyurethane. Too cold for epoxy in my workshop in the winter. And with PU you don't need to dry the boards after steaming.

    • @TheBeaker59
      @TheBeaker59 2 роки тому

      @@ysteineek3976 PU is a great option with those constraints I sort of guessed with the foamy extrusions. PU is more waterproof than epoxy but epoxy is stronger and more tolerant of woods movement I use both in my boat building workshop. Epoxy is first preference though I guess it has a longer history of use whereas moisture cure PU is new technology.

    Subscribed and looking forward to more of your videos sir. Noticed you have a bandsaw. May I suggest searching for a resaw blade that will fit you bandsaw? We have a bandsaw from Grizzly that will resaw 10 inches of oak with no drift and that is with a standard blade.

    Er planen å få den på vannet så snart det lar seg gjøre? Eller er dette vedlikeholdsarbeid for enda flere år på land ;)?

    • @ysteineek3976
      @ysteineek3976 3 роки тому

      Planen er å få den flytende neste år. Men det er litt avhengig av tilstanden på dekket. Hvis jeg må ta det også går det nok en vinter til. Men jeg mest lyst til å sette den på vannet en sesong eller to, og så restaurere dekket senere.
