I used to have this 45 when I was a kid. Won it from a radio station. Brings back memories
*Like Sam, my wife was also born in Cuero, TX. She really likes this song.* *_Rest In Peace Sam_* *_Job Well Done, Sir_*
This is the first time I've heard this song, and I love it.
Great tribute song.I was disappointed that it didn't get more airplay considering MASH was a major hit TV series.
I sang this song on stage with Sam many many years ago. 💖RIP my friend.
Loved MASH trapper was my favorite
I have this on a 45 somewhere. Bought it back in 83. Now i have to find it.
omg i loved that movie ... i cried and here i am l2 this song crying again years later. i love you all you were n my livingroom like family
When i was at Sam's funeral ,Alan Alda and loretta Switt gave a Nice speach until Sams son Jason started to bug people for a hit of meth, very sad
I was at Sam Neely's funeral, but did not see Loretta Swit or Alan Alda there. My dad's funeral was the next day. Sam's son came. Great friends.
Thank you very much for sharing!
andrew plotnick You're welcome...I could tell you all kinds of Neely storys. My hubs was his drummer for many years.
And to ZoneFighter1, no it was not supposed to end like that. It ends much like the intro. I have a complete recording, but don't know how to youtube it. My husband actually had all the reel to reels and I recently gave them back to Sam's son, Jason who is a really great studio engineer... I have this on cassette.
I miss Sam so much. My hubs was his drummer for a really long time, in his club, then traveling on his bus to shows. I was at his funeral. Did not see any of the MASH actors there as stated below. My hubs and I first met at Sam's club here in Corpus Christi TX, so when we got engaged, we went out to his house on Padre Island and told Sam before we told anyone else. Years before Walt and I were an item, I'd walk into the club and Sam would always tease him, "Hey Walt, your WIFE is here"...17 yrs later we got married...lol
I remember that well! We use to tease the shit out of Walt. It was a fun band to be in!
Did you play with Sam when he played at my parents place in Aransas Pass, The Country Club, Billie and Gene were my parents. This would have been around the mid 80's.
Thank you very much for sharing!
I love this show
In Jan. of 1982 I joined Sammy's band as his guitar player. This was about 2 months before he signed with MCA Records. working with Sammy was one of the greatest experiences of my life. He was more like and older brother to me than my boss/employer. I made a trip back to Corpus in 2005 just to visit Sam. Glad I did as he was gone a year later. I really value what Sammy taught me and I dearly miss him. Nearly 30 years later, I still cherish the time we spent together playing music. Don Butler
I use to have the 45 to this when it first came out when the last ep of M*A*S*Y aired but lost it over the years. I have been looking for this forever. I'm glad I found this.
Many years ago I was searching for this song. I received a really nice email from Sam Neely explaining that he did not have the master copies of the song and did not control any potential rereleases :( The music industry is weird. RIP Sam.
OH the memories.............
@IanDavidOnDU I remember hearing this on a New York station called WHN. They are long out of business but just like M*A*S*H, their memory lives on!
I still have a cop of this song on an old cassette tape recoded off the radio from WKHK New York. The audio quality on this video is much better.
I posted a comment here a little over a half an hour ago, but it does not appear to be here. I do not know if this is because I forgot to press the post button or if it is because this is a Comment Pending Approval page. I am now posting this comment to find out!
Only one problem with this song; Hawkeye's mom did while he was a kid. He told that to Winchester.
OMG! I have been looking for this song for years! Great to hear it again!
