Note on Corgis I've had them as pets - if not trained they can be prone to be being nippers as they were originally breed to herd cattle and would do so by nipping at their heels. This behaviour can come out as pets if the owner doesn't train or show leadership

I have a Lhasa and I love him to pieces. He is our second Lhasa. They are so loving, loyal and sweet. Highly recommended.

I'm a senior. My dog is a full grown Anatolian shepherd. I trained him to do "search and find" and "search and rescue". He is very large, very fast, and very smart. So, if for some reason I need to make an emergency trip to the hospital, I figured he's strong enough to drag me there. He's fast enough to do it quickly. And smart enough to know where to find it. He does keep me active though. We go on walks and runs every day.

All small dogs. I like a full size dog being a bushman type. I have two young dogs now and have just turned 60 so they will be the last pups i raise. Whrn they go if I am still here I will be in my 70's. I think in my declining years I will adopt older dogs whose owners have died. Think I will still prefer full sized hunting dogs, probably Bull Arabs. you always get them because people are afraid of them, but in my experience they are fantastic dogs awesome temprement and just big lovable clowns. Check them out Bull Arab or Australian pig hunting dog. Cheers what ever floats your boat. If your looking for bigger dogs hunting dogs are good with humans and super loyaland generally just want to please their owners. A stern tone is probably the most discipline required.

I don't know why you and others never list the Coton de Tulear. Mine is the ideal pet for any age, but great for seniors. Sweet, cuddly, no shed, hypoallergenic, only weigh 9 lbs., very smart, have hair and not fur, easy to maintain. They are chosen by many around the world including Hollywood celebs. Best dog I have ever had!!😃

why all very small dogs? problem if one has difficulty bending over or squatting, little dogs can't be petted, have difficulty picking them up. I have a black mouth cur, replace a labradoodle. also a old blind shitzu, a daschund and snauscher. the last three are difficult unless they climg on something for me to reach them. the cur is a good size and very affectionate-no formal grooming, just nails trimming and occasional brushing. do need a fenced are to run. Im almost 82

We're both 65 and just adopted a 6 yo pitbull from the shelter off the euthanasia list. She's the most loving dog and all she wants is to show us love. The upside is, she's very loyal and definitely let's us know if someone's at the door.

If you're going to get a corgi (greatest dog in the world, btw), research and choose your breeder wisely.

I am a senior citizen and have a senior Pomeranian. I do not think think there are any dogs as sweet, easy going, well behaved, lovable breed. I love my tiny Pom, mostly black with some white, who has been a true gift from God. I do not think I have ever owned an easier little dog. They are fragile, mine had a serious shoulder injury probably from jumping off my bed, and lost a leg, due to poor vet surgical after care. She is no longer allowed on the furniture, since I never want her to get hurt again. I would recommend a Pom to any person who does not have small children at home. Other than the pain of seeing her suffer from her injury, I have had nothing but pleasure from this tiny bundle of joy.

Why is the Tibetan Spaniel never mentioned in these types of "reports?" Tibbies are small, very quiet, don't need much exercise, adore their people, and are perfect for apartments/travel. My last Tibbie was my Service Dog, and I miss her horribly.

All small and mostly yappy. Not at all what I want. I know that’s practical, but I’ve got two golden retrievers and never want another kind of dog. Am willing to pay someone to take them for long walks if I can’t. I’m 70 now, and they’re both 3 years old. We’ll see…..

You obviously no little to nothing about seniors. Why are all the dogs you recommend small yappy dogs? I’m 65 and have a male Pitbull. Previous to that I had a Rottweiler. If a dog is well trained anyone can handle it. Rather than spend a fortune on getting an ankle biter clipped every few months I chosen protection and companionship with large dogs. You can spend money one time getting them trained and from there they are low maintenance. They are wonderful companions and they can stop and intruder.

There are many mixed breeds with parts of a purebred… but some shelters charge a fortune for mixed breed purebreds. 😢

I thought for sure that you would have the Llasa Apso as one of your picks! We had our Sophie for over 15 years! It has been 5 years since she passed. We still miss her every day! Such a sweet and wonderful companion. However, I’m sure a lot of seniors are wondering why their special companions did not make your top 10. But, it’s ok. You’ve shown me there’s more to consider when and if we decide to bring a special friend back into our family. Thanks again for your show.❤

Recommending a breed that needs the expense of a once a month groomer for seniors who are most likely on a fixed income is ridiculous.

I love dashounds, dockshind wiener dogs but they weren’t on the list. Why are they high maintenance?

I’m 77 and have my third Bichon. I work full time and he goes to work with me. The Bichon’s characteristic of not barking and being non-shedding makes them perfect in a business environment. Everyone loves my Tex (“Made in Texas”).

The regular grooming requirements of long haired dogs may be difficult to afford on a fixed income.

This website is not all accurate. Cocker spaniels are known to be highly energetic gun dogs, totally unsuitable for elderly people.

I’m 68 years old. Over the years, I have had a pair GSD’s, two Malamutes. A Basset Hound and a Chow. My last three dogs have been rescued Pit bull mixes. The first two were female, sadly they are no longer with me. My current guy is without a doubt the easiest, most loving dog ever! Please do not judge the breed or mix of breeds. Definitely don’t ignore rescue pups.

You should consider the Lhasa Apso. I am a senior and my Lhasa is my joy. He's energetic and at 10 1/2 he shows no sign of slowing down.

I can't believe chihuahuas didn't make the list. Chihuahuas bond with their owner. They are smart, super sweet, and love to cuddle. Mine follows me everywhere. However, the strong bond these dogs have with their person can make them very protective, and they bark a lot. Mine, let's me know when people are at the door, when someone comes home, or if a squirrel has invaded my yard. Chihuahuas generally weigh 3 to 6 lbs, very easy to pick up or carry in a purse. Grooming is easy. Especially for short hair ones. I must admit I take my girl to the groomers once a month to trim her nails. Socialization is a must. Remember, they can be protective, especially with people they don't know.

Poodles!!! Did say POODLES!!!! I’m 71 and my husband is 75. We have three red standard poodles. We take them to the beach, to the park. We run them with our bikes. Our poodles love watching tv with us on the bed. Plus the breed comes in three sizes.
