The Tarantula Train - Fort Worth Stockyard's Classic Vintage Excursion Train Attraction
Shortly after the Fort Worth and Western Railroad restored Southern Pacific 2248 (Texas State Railroad 200) they were packing tourists and locals into the Tarantula Train. That was quite a treat for me as a kid and I'll never forget it. Fortunately, this birthday gift was captured on VHS. A meticulously restored set of coaches and the steam engine were the highlight of a few route options between the Trinity River Run, to Grapevine, back to the Stockyards and then back to the FWWR yard or eventually Grapevine. Stick around to the end; you might see someone you know.
The 2248 (GVRX 2248, aka Puffy), owned by the City of Grapevine after sale by FWWR in the early 2000s, hasn't run since the mid 2010s and is reportedly stuck in a lengthy restoration process.

Major Milestone for Building the New Garden Railroad Layout
Переглядів 23114 днів тому
Garden railroading takes a fair amount of landscaping and skill. In this episode, I apply what I know about transferring heights, leveling pavers in soil and setting the piers which will hold the garden railroad viaduct over the future dry creekbed in my backyard.

My obsession with model railroading began at an early age, and after a right-place-right-time purchase of a lot of stuff, I'm on my way to building a garden railroad collection and rebuilding my garden railroad layout. In this episode, I work though the problem of creating a viaduct deck out of fence pickets. Sections:
Ride On The Georgetown Loop Railroad in Colorado
Переглядів 1,5 тис.2 місяці тому
The Georgetown Loop Railroad is a great stop for rail enthusiasts and families, situated right off I-70 west of Denver. It's an out-and-back train trip that doesn't take all day, making it a great stop on the way into the resort region of Colorado. There are other activities geared toward families and also tours of old mines that made the area famous.

It's not every day you find a group of family and friends that you can drag onto a tourist railroad in the Rockies. That's just what happened in 2019 when we passed by the Georgetown Loop Railroad on our way to my bachelor party stay in Breckenridge, Colorado. They knew there was a chance a train would be involved, and I think they were happy that we stopped. Learn more at www.georgetownlooprr....

It was plenty cold that day!!
Great on board footage, really felt like it was picking up some speed on the down grade section. Your little helper was really enjoying it too!
Thank you! These model engines really have some pulling power. It's a roughly 2% grade and between the engine and all the cars, the whole thing together is about 20 pounds. I have a hard enough time carrying 20 pounds of anything across a flat surface for any amount of time.
Indeed good sir. I carried 20 lbs. up a stair one time, didn’t care for it. I agree the little engines are surprisingly powerful, pound for pound.
I'm planning on something like that but MUCH MUCH MUCH larger, my layout is going to be based on the entire world from the North Pole (Hence the name of the Railroad) all the way to Antarctica. Yes, it's going to be THAT big 'how are you going to fit in the Oceans?' hear you asking, well I have considered digging either large holes to represent each ocean or using large swimming pools and linking them together to form a single body of water big enough to be that section of Ocean, such as the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, or black Sea.
Sounds like a cool idea. My best advice: just get started!
The transformation is coming along quite nicely!! The boys are the best, and worst, and best helpers you’ll ever have!!
Thanks for the great explanation of how you accomplished that challenge. You are very fortunate to have a resourceful father to reach out to at times like that. I suspect he is also handsome and funny. Be thankful, as you are truly blessed!
@@rogerphillips775 you have described him well!
Maan! Porch posts.. lets really hope you got signoff from her majesty to cut on 'her' porch for your more important Rail Road. *Chuckle* :)
@@AlastairBoyanich haha, permission AND encouragement. Those old posts had to go and she’s happy now with new ones and a fancy porch light. It’s important to keep The Management on your side at all times.
Nice collection! I'm a G-scale collector too! I started in 1996 with an LGB Stainz starter set, and have been collecting on and off ever since. Just like you, each of my pieces have a little story behind it. And indeed, they are mishmash of road names and countries, but I don't mind at all. One issue I've always had, though, was with couplers. LGB and Bachmann hook & loops get along great, but knuckle or H&L couplers from the different brands almost never do, or they're the wrong height, or they hang too low for LGB switches and crossings. Getting them all outfitted with matching 3rd party couplers would be an expensive and complicated endeavor, so for the time being I'm using some rolling stock as "adapter" pieces that have a knuckle on one end and a loop on the other. It does force some cars to be with other cars in a certain order, but it works. Looking forward to more videos. Wishing you the best with your family and collection. (And Happy Thanksgiving as well!)
@@Kromlech06 thanks so much for your comment! I’ve also done some tests with those ‘transition’ cars. Some success, some epic crashes. Hope to add a Stainz at some point, no collection is complete without it!
Looking good Dan.
Thanks very much! I appreciate it.
Hi Dan, before you add the track connectors with the screws, remove the orignial track connector - then you might have not a problem with a well solid connect.
@@MP-ob5pp thank you for the tip!
Nice, looking forward to seeing the rest of your build!
@@maxjag151 Thank you!
Good info! How did you cut those giant square timbers you used to support the extension? Porch posts, really?
Real porch posts. 6" square posts that are actually hollow in the middle and turned on a lathe. They were 8 feet long, and cut in half to be removed from the house. Once they were off the house, I cut the parts off that were suitable for saving and were not the turned/lathed sections to have plain faces. Used a circular saw and carefully cut them one side at a time.
@ good job! You seem to have a lot of useful skills that make your railroading hobby more enjoyable.
I wish your video gets millions of views because you have great content. Try running ads for your channel using some kind of system.
There are quite a few of those historical railway associations in Switzerland, some on retired lines, some on still in use lines. All putting a lot of care into their rolling stock, keeping it in fantastic condition. Some other notable associations: Verein historische Emmentalbahn (VHE) Verein Dampfbahn Bern (DBB) Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke (DFB, this one is running on rack rails) Vapeur Val-de-Travers (VVT) And quite a few more, keeping Switzerland's railway history alive.
Good point @electroman1996. I have heard of several of those and hope to visit a few more.
Daniel, I started with ho trains, as a kid. 10 yrs old had a great 8x10 plywood train. Then it grew with me, we moved I got better it got better, then as I got older we were introduced to G scale. As I earned more money the garden railroad became a great thing. Engines that had sound like real engines. Moved again, and had a whole yard to build. A train shed, up and down lines, remote control units. Had it all. Then life changed and no train set. In 2015 put out a layout basic track and a job. Worked seven days a week so no time. And fast forward to today, I raised the track three feet, here in Arizona you can’t use wood, unless it’s chemical infused. It’s great it’s very expensive. So just do it, and have fun. G scale is great it’s not tiny. Have fun trains are great. ❤❤❤
@@HobbyMoose79 I had my HO on plywood too. My dad glued on the little plastic signs and telephone poles and even cork for ballast. Putting the HO track on a little piece of plywood must be the key ingredient for a fun ‘life sentence’ in modeling. I’ll be adding more videos of V2 of my outdoor layout soon. Thanks for the comment!
I’ve been on that train, your representation of how beautiful it all is, is spot on! Great video!
That little steam engine is very cool! How old is it?
@@rogerphillips775 By my estimate, about 20 years old. The manufacturer said that they don’t have or make parts for it anymore.
Good times on that old train!
I want to go!
Put it on your list the next time you are in CO!
Have you ever climbed aboard the D&S? What did you think?
481,480 and 482 are running in the video and I know where 473,and 486 are they’re in the shed in the Durango yard
What do you think of the coal to oil conversion? I'm happy to see them keeping steam alive, even if it means 'modernizing' things a bit.
@@danmanproductions well because I can tell that coal can be dirty to buy for steam trains and I’m sad there are coal burner’s that can cause forest fires in Durango’s summertime in Colorado and steam train’s that go oil burning can run in the summertime and because they don’t want to spark fire in mountains and trees so they want coal burning steam trains to run in the winter that’s why I can tell the difference
Great footage Dan 😎👍
Thanks @EdWhizAviationTrains! A lot of new content coming to the channel soon that you might like.
So I see 480,481 and 482 are running And I know where 473 and 486 are they’re in the roundhouse in the Durango yard
