Helical Knitting Tutorial with 3+ skeins (Easiest Way to Alternate Skeins in the Round!)
Переглядів 23 тис.3 роки тому
In this video we will discuss helical knitting! Helical knitting is (in my opinion) the easiest way to alternate skeins when working with hand-dyed yarn, yarn from different dye lots, or simply a pattern with a single row stripe. In this video we talk about: 1) Why you should alternate skeins when working with hand-dyed yarn - 0:00 2) how to DO helical knitting (including starting and finishing...

Latvian Braid Knit Flat - Left and Right | Knitting Tutorial
Переглядів 21 тис.3 роки тому
In this video I teach you how to knit a Latvian Braid flat, both a left and right pointing braids. I also demonstrate slipping the first stitch of the row, in case your pattern calls for that. Here is a link to my previous video where I demonstrated this technique but with the left braid only. I also go into more detail about the differences between knitting these braids flat vs in the round: u...
Casagrande Teaser Trailer | Pattern Preview | River Road Knits

Correction time! In the video, I said you would need 5 skeins of Dreamliner for the largest sizes. Since recording this, I updated the yardage requirements, and the largest sizes go up to 6 skeins. This is my teaser trailer / pattern preview for my newest release, the Casagrande sweater! This pattern is way easier than it looks - a few simple design elements come together to make something eleg...

    I must have watched 5 or 6 Latvian braid tutorials, often watching in slow motion and knitting along with the screen. I am quite an experienced knitter, but your video was the only one that enabled me to make the braid correctly. I really appreciate your excellent instructions. Now hopefully I can take this from my practice swatches onto the pattern where I really need the braid! I'm sure with the help of your video, I will be able to accomplish it.

    This is a great video. Thank you! Ive had a problem with a solid yarn that pooled (same dye lot) but I used the helix method and it was so easy! I’m going to do a scrap sweater with this method and can’t wait to see how it turns out.

    I won a prize on Ravelry during Sock Madness, and the prize was a pattern of my choice. I choose Dark Academia. Bought my yarn for it 2 days ago (Isager Tvinni) and will cake it up in the coming days, so I'm ready to start knitting this beautiful sweater for NaKniSweMo (knitting a sweater with at least 50.000 sts during the month of november). Really looking forward to it! Thank you for this beautiful pattern and this video!

    how many stitches do you lose per pleat?

    • @riverroadknits4125
      @riverroadknits4125 11 місяців тому

      You lose 2x the number of stitches that the pleat is wide. So for an 8 stitch wide pleat, you will lose 16 stitches.

    Definitely not the easiest ... too many slipped stitches and too much thinking ... Purl Soho has a video entitled "Helix Knitting Tutorial" ... it is a much easier and fool proof way to helix knit with 3 or more different yarns.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you. I learned how to basic helical knitting last summer, but I didn't want to start the colors at 4 different points on my already started, top-down sweater. ^^; (Two colors, two rows each) I've been wracking my brain to figure out how to do it for the past few days, but your method and explanation was exactly what I needed. And I was determined to avoid the tension problems at the beginning of round. Thank you so much! <3

    Thanks for all these tips. I learnt about Helix knitting in the last week. Since then, I've knitted 4 Beanie hats with the Helix method, using 2 strands of wool. One is the main colour and the 2nd is variegated. It makes for a great looking hat. I'll be trying the 3 strand method soon. Thanks once again for your tips and greetings from England 😁🧶🪡

    Thanks very much for this tutorial! I did a Latvian braid in the round once, a decade ago, without a video and I wouldn't be able to figure it out like that anymore for doing it flat. This is a lifesaver, and you're right: tutorials are usually for braids in the round! Really appreciate it! I'm going to knit a few Latvian braids instead of welts on my Penguono cardigan now.
