Spielberg, Cameron, Abrams. Two great directors!
He's not bashing anyone, he's having an opinion.
Isn't it funny how doesn't matter what race they all had smiles on their faces.. So much for black nerd culture being unsafe, whatever that shit means
TOM CRUISE TAKE A PLACE OF HARVEY KEITEL
I love John's take on Altman. I've always wondered what bothered me about his style whether it was Nashville, The Long Goodbye or California Split. He was too busy impressing how clever he was instead of telling the story. This shows balls to take down some of the most sacred cows of Hollywood from a great director.
Star Wars in the 80s: Reporter: “a lot of critics are panning it.” Fan: “What do they know?” Star Wars in 2024: Reporter: “A lot of woke critics are endorsing it.” Fan: “What do they know?”
Power of maaaaaaiiinnyyyyy
The summer of 1982. Spielberg releases a movie about aliens and once again directs the highest grossing film in history. Universal is so happy wit him, they give him a slice of the Universal slot and build him a very nice 2 story building all his own for 4 million dollars. E.T. becomes one of the most beloved characters in cinema history.. Later that summer, Universal releases THE THING directed by John Carpenter starring Kurt Russell. It's a bomb and loses a fortune. Carpenter has a long term contract with Universal which they immediately cancel. Now I really like THE THING, i THINK IT'S A MASTERPIECE OF SCI FI HORROR. But Hollywood backs winners and if you're not a winner, you better at least be pleasant and not criticize others. It's bad form. Carpenter is talented for sure, but he's always had a big mouth. He's his own worst enemy. Steven's not just a better filmmaker than Carpenter, he's a lot better at industry politics.
Volume is so low.
🖐😐🤚
John's pretty edgy, not bowing down to what a studio may want. Terry Gilliam is the same way. They both have made some timeless classics, but they could have done more if they just would have bended a bit. I admire the director who can walk the fine line between mass appeal and true art, like Guillermo Del Toro. Some of his films feel like indies, others are built for mass appeal.
Brilliant
This is awesome
This is me every time I approach a girl and I forget my pick up lines
😆😆😆😆😂 I do it and get f.....ked every time
Cures all ailments, permanently.
I dont understand how they completely removed the shine that glass materials have or even the subtle translucency that glass has. Even when looking through the cleanest windows it is fairly obvious that you are looking at glass.
so who did they cast instead?
Well, he's entitled to his opinion, of course. My opinion is the biggest problem with "Ghosts Of Mars" was the lack luster direction.
no comparison between Carpenter and Altman .... Altman way above
lol are you serious. Altman has no movie of calibre the thing and halloween. Altman is solid director but he is not Carpenter who is complet genius
Ronald Lee Ermey was the perfect actor for the character. Not to forget he was a Viet Nam veteran who had loads of military experience too. RIP The Gunny 😔🪖🇺🇸🫡
It’s interesting for me. There is a notion that you should watch a film on the big screen but the absolute reality is that movies are made on monitors.
I can't believe this footage exists. So. Cool.
1:10 You gotta love the 80's, back when you could just hang outside the theater getting drunk in public waiting for Star Wars to open.
Yeah. In the 1980s, nobody got cited for an open container unless they were in Utah. 😂
Starting to believe his attitude is what made studios stay away from him. He's made some good movie, but he is not better than the guy who would later direct "Schindler's List," Carpenter needed an ego check.
That's a stupid argument, you don't get put on a no-list just for presenting your opinion in a completely respectfull maner
So what if Schindler's List is an acclaimed movie ? Didn't you hear him ... Carpenter already said he does not care if the director's work is acclaimed by other people, he does not care about acclaims, he speaks his own mind and would not try to conform to popular opinions. And Schindler's List was not made at that point, so it does not mean Carpenter would not change his mind later ... Carpenter do not need an ego check, he's just being honest, and his stature has only grown in recent years due to The Thing and many of his other movies growing in importance especially being considered one of the top 5 sci fi horror movies of all time ...
he is better then fake Spielberg. I love Jaws, masterpiece but others just not at that level. Schindler List is overrated, JP also and other movies. Spielberg never can directer movies like Haloween or The Thing.
@@markozbunjol625 Right because a movie that shows real human brutality and cruelty is overrated.
@@markozbunjol625 Luckily that's just your opinion, but "fake Spielberg" made me laugh. For me, apart from The Thing and Christine, the rest that Carpenter did was trashy B movies. I like Carpenter's honesty here, but he is totally out of Spielberg's league, and always was
Pen is floting (no gravity ) 🤭🤭then how can she walk?? 🤔🤔
She’s wearing Velcro grip shoes
Loomis 😢😢
They could have made an entire comedy/mockumentary about this film’s production and got two movies for the price of one .
jj abrahams being there is so insulting
You can say that again. It's like having Michael Bay on a panel with Kubrick and Hitchcock
True. He ruined Star Trek for me by turning it into a glorified Star Wars remake. Zero vision whatsoever in JJ Abrams, anything he touches goes to dust. Spielberg and Cameron are the real legends here.
He ruined two beloved franchises- Wars & Trek. Unforgivable.
@@MaheshWalatara He ruined everything. Same with Colin Trevorrow for Jurassic World. Both of them have zero insight but were given the reigns to franchises that were box office successes and razed them to the ground and made a fortune in the process.
@@Romulan2469 Jurassic World wasn't that bad. The other two are trash.
I feel like such an idiot
A multipurpose solution, hitchcock truly deserves a nobel prize for this revolutionary invention.
This movie is hilarious!
Is there more of this conversation?? I want more lol
Yep there is
Great director
Who’s John Carpenter?
Director of the Halloween, The Thing, and many others
This would be hate speech today and Hitchcock would get cancelled
Thank goodness geniuses like Hitchcock had free reign before the rise of the professionally offended.
No, it wouldn’t.
No personally, I don't think so. Jokes get cancelled because they sound like a bully's remarks. This skit by Alfred Hitchcock is very relatable to today's extremely depressed youth, so no one would take it as an insult.
No it wouldn’t, you’re just delusional
LMAO
Anche troppo educato... Avevano mandato le immagini di mamma home alone e non goodfellas
Excellent! He says it all in a handful of words. Other actors should take note...
R. Lee Ermy did not want to even swear. That is something I have not learned about him.
but I guess you missed the part where they responded "you put it in!" You think this former marine drill instructor was scared of swearing? LOL. I think he was just realizing "wow there are a LOT of F bombs in this script."
“I don’t care for Altman’s work at all. I think his not a good filmmaker.” Wow! I happen to love Altman. Hard vibe to catch but if you do it’s magic but damn Carpenter is keeping it real. We need more voices in the industry to express their true opinions. Especially now where films are praised over mere content instead of style or storytelling abilities. Excellent.
Reason behind his downfall
He never had a downfall
@@kainkong274 He obviously did but it wasn't bc of this and it wasn't until 20 years later.
Hahahahaahahahah
Love it when you hear a cold, honest opinion.
Even when it’s completely off.
@@robertr798 Even if I disagree with it, yes.
I also disagree, but love his honesty. You won't see Spielberg or Lucas be this straight on other filmmaker
Ha! Carpenter was a hack. I agree with your comment tho commenter.. Just not with Carpenters!
😭rip Donald pleasnce
No way would you now come across an actor being that honest, intelligent and respecting the person interviewing him by giving such articulate and well reason answers. But then actors today did not serve as an RAF Radar Operator on Wellingtons and spend a year as POW in Germany during WW2 where to help moral he organized secret plays and other types of entertainment. Always an absolute gentleman, polite and respectful, the type of British person my generation, i.e. baby boomers mocked and effectively destroyed and now my self an old 71-year-old - deeply regret the passing of people like Donald Pleasence
I am grateful that you exists. Heaven on Earth. Sweet peace.
How intense would like the performance?
Then he did with Terminator
Go raptors LOL!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 oooh Robin how we miss you!
4 dollars?! 5.50?!
Donald Pleasence was a wireless operator who bailed out of a burning Lancaster bomber over France after flying nearly 60 missions. His POW experience was put to good use in the movie The Great Escape.
