City-Wide Gardens Zone 6b- 7a NJ
Приєднався 19 чер 2012
City-wide Gardens - making any city beautiful one house at a time! Located in zone 6b NJ ( in the suburbs of Philadelphia). Learning as I grow while trying to grow as organically as possible. Gleaning from others I watch on their channels and incorporating them into how I work my gardens.

Canning sweet potatoes and butternut squash for future meals
Переглядів 1042 місяці тому
Bought a bunch of stuff from a farm in Burlington county NJ @speccafarm since my sweet potatoes did not do well at all (way too dry and my watering was inconsistent). Did successfully grow 2 butternut squash of my own but wanted more to be able to can as well as eat without canning.

We have corn!!!! Try and try again until something works. 7/2024
Переглядів 475 місяців тому
Trying to grow corn again. This time I heavily amended the soil before I planted since corn is a heavy feeder. Planted the corn on July 23 and noticed it was coming through the soil on the 26th. Watered on July 28 with fish fertilizer and took the video today. Also a quick view of everything else growing in the garden. #corn #fertiler #garden #cucumbers #Organic #KnowWhatYouGrow
Attack of the vine borers! Ugh!!!#% 😡
Переглядів 2385 місяців тому
Found out today the reason my pumpkins are looking horrible. Is they all have vine bore damage. I actually was able to locate one of the little buggers to confirm. Now I have to take out all of my pumpkin plants, which were over 7 feet tall up my trellis. Sad day but now I know I have to keep on top of it next year with the diatomaceous earth that I consistently used on my butternut and spaghet...

Cabbage harvest - failure but also learned!
Переглядів 408 місяців тому
Harvesting my cabbage that went to seed due to this crazy weather! I succeeded in growing it from seed and transplanted it! They grew all fall and winter but this crazy warm spring caused them to bolt. Lesson learned to start them earlier and see what happens next year! #backyardgardening
Started sweet potatoes slips to grow more of my own food!
Переглядів 10310 місяців тому
One of the ways you can grow sweet potato slips to plant in your soil to have more sweet potatoes to grow. They do not grow like regular potatoes. There is a special process, and this is just a little video showing one of those two ways. #food #sweetpotato #organic #selfsufficient #raisedbedgardening

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t just depends on my mood lol but thank you for the info
Ball said you no longer need to heat lids. Thanks for sharing!
I lost All my zucchini’s and yellow squash AND all my cucumbers. Hope they dont this horrible destruction next year. 😢
I'm so sorry. I just found some little stinkers in my yellow & Peter pan squashes today. It's my first year gardening and boy. Do I feel like I am learning a lot.
@@sweetboo1022 All that hard work and bam… gone! I will make sure I am diligent in using the diatomaceous earth next year!!! My butternut and spaghetti squash are doing great! Thx for watching and commenting!!
@@CityWideGardens My butternut Squash is doing fine. I read somewhere that they seem to be resistant to them. So I guess we have that small consolation
NJ Love from Jackson NJ
Beautiful! ❤
They look beautiful!
Awesome. I’m canning mine today. I don’t have much left though. I have to grow a lot more somehow lol
I only had 15 pounds total
@@CityWideGardens I didn’t weigh mine but I have about four to six quarts worth to can. That’s the end of my tomatoes. I wanted to make so many other things besides sauce but maybe this next season will be better
Wowwww that's great, Tiffany! I love both soups❤
Your garden beds are so pretty 😍
Thank you! I used to just have boards to create my beds, but I need to see some colorful things all year around so when I found them on Amazon, I was happy.
Looks great . I’d love to see the progress of getting the tomatoes broken down. Maybe next year?
I have other vids on my list you can go watch…..

Very nice ❤
Very nice. I’m behind in getting my garlic in.
That is so awesome. We’ve had some really cold nights too. So that is so amazing to see ❤
I leave my collards all winter I don’t care if there’s ice snow sleet I don’t care they stay until the spring they pop like crazy and and I’m harvesting more than I can eat
@@CityWideGardens That’s awesome ♥️
When’s the best time to plant melons? Ie cantaloupe or watermelons ???? That’s really neat
❤
Thanks for sharing.
Love the harvest!
Great harvest!
I’m outside as well. I’m freezing. 😂 It’s so windy. Your plants look great ❤
Thank you. I still have to do a short video on overwintering my peppers. I have two habaneros, one in tabascco and one green pepper.
@@CityWideGardens awesome. If I can get to it I’d like to overwinter my alysia pepper and fish pepper at least
Awesome! Thanks for sharing #knowledge worth #spreading
Garden is looking good. I’m going to transplant some collards. I just planted more kale seeds.
Nice video..I just planted spinach bok choy & just got my collard seeds in mail 7b here so imma lil late but gonna try to overwinter a few🙏🏾
Throw some of those seeds in that dirt!! I am sooo surprised how well my seeds did starting in trays…. I usually fail miserably at it!!!
Beautiful peppers. I’m saving seeds as well. I got a lot of my canning jars from Fb marketplace. ❤ I’m pretty new to canning and I am loving it
I cant wait to get some started
@@CityWideGardens I’m canning applesauce now from ever crisp apples. Delicious and no added sugar needed ♥️
Awesome. It looks great. My carrots actually sprouted this year. - Robyn NJ zone 7a
Did you mention planting Roma tomatoes in one of the beds? Can they tolerate frost?
I had the romas in that bed. I left the few in there that’s still had some growing but no they don’t take frost.
Tiff, so I could start now and possibly get some collards???
I do my collards in the fall and let them go all winter. Freeze, ice, snow they go dormant and in the spring they are the first to pop up and by April I have tons to eat fresh or blanch and freeze! No bug issues just good eating.
I started mine a few days ago also. Wish me luck 😅
LOVE IT!!!
Wow, that is so big and never seen something like that
I learned about them from a few other youtubers and just so happens I was gifted some heirloom seeds so i said why not try to grow them….. I was shocked myself!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
It's a blessing u recvd a harvest! The deer destroyed my garden & it's struggling big time! I'm also in the NJ zone 6b...I know what to do next year. Now I'm going to start my Fall/Winter garden while it's still warm enough for the seeds to germinate. All my hard work destroyed due to deer 🦌😞 This will Not happen again!!! I did some research on this issue. Tks for sharing this with us 😊
We dont have deer but I have horrible squirrel issues. Also i think we may have had a skunk or possum as i see some marks on my squash vines. They know when my dogs are inside…. 😂
Congrats on such a beautiful harvest. Growing edible food that sustains life is a gift & valuable talent. Glad you get to see good for your hard work.😊🌻💕
So nice of you
Beautiful inside and out. ❤
Do u sell that sauce? Have u tried growing sweet potatoes?
No, I don’t have enough stuff to sell if I have enough I will remember you. And yes, I also grow sweet potatoes
Hey Tiffany, Wait! you can sew????? Are you good enough to teach?
I can kinda sew but not enough to teach….
Really nice tomatoes
Wowwww and they look so beautiful!
Nice harvest!
That's sooo great, Tiffany! Looks delicious 😋
Always amazed!
