I can't help but see the woods here, given the provocative title, as a metaphor for sex -- the loss of one's virginity. The man (if I may laughingly refer to him as such) feigns inexperience in an attempt to woo the woman. The bears, or his beastly attributes, reveal the truth even as the running represent his inability to commit to an intimate relationship. Indeed.
