This William S. Burroughs adaptation to film is so languid, hypnotic and rather soul crushing. Did not expect to go on such a journey. Another slam dunk from Luca Guadagnino in 2024! Nice review and glad you enjoyed it. It's such a visual and emotional viewing experience and that OzDust Ballroom scene and "Defying Gravity" get me every time. Also, there are some very interesting surprises in store for you in Part 2 and how it all ties into the events of the original Wizard of Oz movie.
I loved the movie too. I also watched the play and there are actually a lot of surprises in Part 2. Trust me the plot is not paper thin once you get through both parts.
I’ll be delighted to be proved wrong on that point! Curious to see how things will develop in Part 2 🧐
Ohhhh you will love the Witch
I don’t doubt it!
I absolutely love this movie I've seen it twice so far and the second time I loved it even more
I feel like this is the kind of film that greatly benefits a second viewing
I haven't seen Nosferatu yet as it hasn't been released in the UK, but I have seen all his previous films and my favourite is The Witch, absolutely great film, I love Eggers' work.
I really need to cross off The Witch from my bucket list one of these days…
This movie was beautiful
The movie is an exercise in mediocrity
im happy that someone else appreciate this movie like i do !
It was a banger!
I love the soundtrack in the film, the eerie sounds in some scenes. The ending saved the movie for me, it was hard to watch the protagonist if anything I felt bad for Eugene. Also great review btw!
That ending was rather breathtaking. And thank you! 😍
I share your love of this film. I saw this with a group and we were literally split down the middle with liking and disliking this film. I felt it was a true gothic masterpiece, not too much gore, not too action, not too much sex, just right. Of course it was beautiful in its visuals and sound (I personally loved Count Orlok's voice), but I also felt the acting - while not perfect - didn't overpower the unworldly atmosphere the film creates for us.
Oh yeah, that voice (and breathing) was something else! 👀
I found the appropriated soundtrack songs annoying and distracting ...but otherwise great film.
I do agree, especially for Come As Your Are! The other ones worked better for me. Even so, I much prefer the OST from Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross
You so fan boyed this...almost every critic has said its not scary, very average and looks bad.
JoBlo horror channel tore it apart.
It’s so shocking to hear when people haven’t seen the Florida project it’s such a good movie
If it makes you feel any better, it occasionally shocks me that I STILL haven’t seen it… 😭
For your information. not every indian film is bollywood. There are somany languages in india. only hindi language movies are called bollywood. so many film and music industries are there in india. every industry is different from each other, in all aspect.
I heard a few complaints, mostly about the ending. I will never ever complain about being able to see a movie like this in the theater.
The more I reflect on it and discuss with friends, the more I appreciate the final chapter! (Even if it totally goes off the rails!) And agreed, seeing this film at the Cinema with a crowd is a vital part of the experience 🙏
It was predictable but good 👍
It was actually hilarious
For the Algo, all the best. PS it's Au *b* rey Plaza, with a "b".
You are indeed correct 😅🫠 Thank you!🙏
loved this review, i totally get when people say the ending might have been too much but I liked it exactly because it was batshit crazy and totally unexpected 🗣️ solid 9/10 for me as well, definitely one of my favorites of the year
Na weekend mieliśmy iść z Ewą no ale po Twoim poleceniu musimy iść w tym tygodniu ! :) Pozdro z Wrocławia :)
Nów, there is risk of flood in Wrocław again, so I watched this series. Very good
Shit… I’m sorry to hear that. I was just flooded a month ago in my home, it’s going to take a while to rebuild. Pozdrowienia z Kanady!! 🙏
@@thebottomlesspit2705 Now, after Flood of Millenium and another flood (2010) Wrocław is prepared for this risk. I think they will be good
Dzięki za polecenie ! Nie słyszałem o tym filmie wcześniej:)
obejrzyj horror Warlock 1 i 2. troche klasyki (dla ciebie) do komentarza :) Pozdro
Yeah i live in mtl and the floods were crazy
I hope you didn’t suffer too much damage! I got hit pretty hard, but I’m doing okay all things considered. Rebuilding piece by piece… The phoenix rises from the ashes right? 🙏
"5 years?! What the ..." - Roger Corman
Clearly the best film of the year. THE WIZARD OF OZ on dirt bikes.
Glad you enjoyed this one a lot more than I did! For me, this movie is nothing more than background noise. Being a guy from Boston, I'm an easy judge of films that take place in the city I know so well but this was a generic and lazy effort on all fronts. No more free Dunkin for these two until they shape up. Great review, dude!
Thing is that this is based on a true story where a soldier killed upto 30 robbers to save a girl
For your information, Indians use english words and sentence very often while speaking their language.
I have never seen such a great & outstanding movie in Indian history
Like you, I was a bit nervous going in, but I was really looking forward to this one. I absolutely loved it. It was one of the best buddy movies I've seen in a long time. Wolverine's straight man to Deadpool's humour was the perfect match. I felt the main villain was a bit generic in her goals, but apart from that absolutely loved this film!
It was an epic pairing indeed!! Also agree on the Villain. That being said, the VFX of her power (no spoiler) was pretty gnarly 👀
You should also check AAVESHAM. One of the best film this year
Thank you kindly for the recommendation!
@@thebottomlesspit2705 will look forward to your review
@@thebottomlesspit2705 Before watching avesham you have to watch "Fahad fazil's" (actor) other movies to understand the performance. if you watch this one directly, you ll think its a typical indian film. there are better filmss than Aavesham in this year from same film industry. Aavesham was good movie, but not great movie.
As to the English words and phrases you noticed - this is common in everyday spoken Hindi - consider that 1. There are dozens of languages spoken in India, 2. India was a British colony for many decades, 3. While Hindi is the official language, so is English. Many words and terms are simply absorbed into Hindi, just as English borrows countless foreign words that you may not realize come from other languages - e.g. croissant, safari, bananas, cartoon. I think the movie definitely goes hard and is quite the ride. The biggest let down is the repetitiveness of the foley work once you realize they are cutting and pasting the same punching sound over and over it starts to sound like a fighting video game. They use like 3 punches and 2 stabs and then a really unrealistic ringing clang whenever the weapon is a hammer or metal bar regardless of what they hit with it. The sound design brings the overall movie way down but it did feel like something new and fresh for American action audiences
Thank you so much for your comment!
Yeah. To the extent that people find it very hard to speak an Indian language without using any English words
@@thebottomlesspit2705 there is no official language for india. because, that much languages in india. common language is English.
The only reason Stuckman is getting so much buzz is cause of his channel and loyal viewers and followers. Outside of that he's such a sellout and phony. The last thing the film industry needs is someone who doesn't believe in genuine film criticism. I bet you now he's seeing all the negative reviews and if he learns from that he will change his mind on his ridiculous stance on criticism lol
A sell out and phony because he gives his opinions as he sees fit (it's his opinion, don't like them, don't watch) and.achieves what he's dreamed of, regardless of the outcome at least he tried. Better to throw and miss then sit on the bleachers and never get down on the court. Do I agree with his opinion and style, not always Will I enjoy his film, I suspect it will pass time for me Just because neither are my preference doesn't mean I can't appreciate him trying
he doesn't have a "ridiculous stance on criticism", he hasn't been doing film criticism fot a long time now; he showcases films he likes and wants to recommend, as a film fan; if you don't like that, don't watch, but to say he's somehow toxic and hurting people just because you don't enjoy his content anymore is ridiculous
Thank you for this. I and the rest of Europe will have to wait 6+ Months :(
By you can always act as pie rat…
@@vladkornienko7889 hardly anyone would share a screener of there is even on. Once the movie is streamable, I will stream it. Probably will end up on Vimeo, where you can pay to see it.
As a kickstarter backer, i'm kinda pissed that other people get to see it first, but i'm really happy to see that it's good.
I understand how you feel. Regrettably, this is outside of my control!
Fantastic review of my favorite movie! You just earned yourself a new subscriber
Thank you kindly! It truly is an outstanding film… 🥹
If you want to experience excellent cinema then you have to watch "MAHARAJA" from india I bet it will blow your mind 😊
Thanks for consistently providing ideas for new and interesting media to explore! I still have a huge backlog of your videos to go through, but hey - luxury problems. 😁Take care!
Luxury problems indeed! If I weren’t working full time as a Game Developer, there would be A LOT more videos 🤣 There are too many things to talk about… Regardless, The Bottomless Pit grows ever deeper 🙏
Glad to hear you liked it , it's definitely one of my most anticipated film this year!
Same for me! Glad it turned out as good as it did <3
Completely agree with your review! A bit of a let down compared to the other 2,but still a fun time!
I did enjoy your review once you got to speaking about the movie but it felt like it took a while for you to get there. I know that's unsolicited advice but I was thinking it after the first 1:30. Any way I really enjoyed this movie and hope netflix can keep up this type of quality.
Always open to feedback! It’s taken under consideration 🙏
je suis déçu, je pensais qu'on allait enfin avoir droit à une chronique sur Hitman le Cobra
Animal retaliation, deer disease, hunters were all foreshadowed possible causes. How the tragedy happened is unsatisfying intellectualizing. That it happened although foreseen did not change its emotional impact. Do we know why the mother was missing? No. Do we need to? No. But it left a young one vulnerable to longing. Nature is more unsafe than evil. The foot steps becoming silent in the moonlight snow was a tough acceptance.
I agree with you in terms of "... this (the ending) will still take some reflection on my part..." , what caught my attention was how - in the beginning - the Title of the movie was presented: 4 words on a 4 block square showing: EVIL (upper left), EXIST (bottom right) then DOES (upper right) and then NOT (lower left) the later in red letters... When I get past that, I'll make more comments :)
Hey, thank you for the review! How do think the name of the movie corresponds with the ending or with the story in general? :)
My pleasure! And great question. I personally see many ways that the Title can be unpacked… One example that comes to mind is the Glamping project that the company naively believes won’t cause any issues for the community in this Village. No harm done right? Not quite… As for the ending, this will still take some reflection on my part, but I was struck by the idea of Deer being harmless creatures. That is, unless they are wounded… I feel like that draws a parallel between the integrity of the village, its intimate relationship towards nature and the state of its inhabitants.
Thank you for a reply! Quite nice take on parallel between deers and people of the village/mail character, it added to my understanding. As for the name of the movie I’m still quite lost. Even googled Japanese kanji for evil to maybe understand some hidden meaning, but there is none - it’s quite literal translation of the original name. Only thing that comes to my mind is maybe that in nature there is no “evil” or “good”, just survival. And therefore people are also animals and their actions should not be judged as “evil”, they just do whatever they feel needed for them to live. But it seems a little bit overanalysed for such a transcendental movie 😅
This film made me feel like a kid again !
keep up the Great work!
You know it! 🙏💪 Thank you kindly 🥹
Totally agree with your ranking. Such a strong film, I can't wait for what Rose Glass does next. Perfect casting in this film. I liked the magical surrealism, I thought it was really bold and worked well in this context metaphorically. So cool!
Glad to hear you loved it!! I feel like so many folks are sleeping on this one…
