Some nice info on here. But man, that audio needs to be FIXED - it makes this almost unlistenable.

And no comments regarding Harry Ford. Harry is a great pilot who accomplished a landing on a golf course "after" the plane, which had experienced engine problems with the prior owner, failed requiring a forced landing. I have no idea if this plane is good or not. I do know that Harry is a quality guy a good pilot, good husband, and great father.

Did you use solid rivets or pop rivets on those engine baffles? If you said solid rivets then I salute you. You got the full effect of what it's like to be an aircraft mechanic. A little FYI in aviation maintenance for the airlines there are structural mechanics who do repairs to the body of an aircraft. These people are like artist's and it takes a special mindset to be good at it. There is another group of mechanics who work what is euphemistically called the A&P's which is strange because an A&P License is required to do any of it. The A&P's do anything that doesn't require sheetmetal. Most of the work is opening areas for inspection which includes the removal and reinstallation of the entire interior. Everything that is done is on a strict schedule. Time overruns are severely frowned upon.

Thank you for posting this, it is very informative. I currently live in San Diego and I’m planning to build one upon my retirement from the Navy. If there’s any chance I’m in your area would I be able to come see the plane at some point? Do you know of anybody who might be closer to me down here?

Nicely Done! You have recorded a point in history for the US military Army Air Corps during the WWII era. For a person over 100 years old his mind was very sharp! Thats probably a good reason why he was never shot down in Combat.
