Paper Accordions from Scratch (no template)
Please turn on Closed Captions (CC) before watching.
Hello, this is a tutorial for making paper accordions (uniform and graduated) from scratch. The tools you need to draw out your own accordion are a pencil, a ruler, and a compass. Please keep in mind that this is a self-made method from my own experimentation, so feel free to point out any errors or suggestions in the comments!
Additional Notes:
- The more accurate the drawing is, the easier the accordion is to fold. This applies primarily for all the angles.
- When you finish folding your accordion, you may notice there is some resistance to attaching the two ends. However, the more you flatten down on the accordion, the easier it is for the two ends to line up.
- For the graduated accordion, if you are using printer paper as I am, you may notice there are certain limits to how large your accordion may be, depending on the starting angle division. Using larger sheets of paper, or attaching multiple sheets of printer paper together may be helpful to achieving your desired accordion.
Thank you for stopping by, and once again, please share your thoughts in the comments!

Hi everyone, the next few videos (and this one) will just be short projects I've worked on recently. This is a small paper lamp that has a fake candle inside and the moon cycle on top. The top part is rotatable so that only one moon can be illuminated at a time. The base is made of cardboard. Thanks for stopping by!
Drawing Gears with a Compass (simplified method)
Переглядів 110 тис.Рік тому
Please turn on the captions for extra instructions! Hi everyone, I wanted to make a video about drawing out functional gears with a compass. It goes over the basics of reference diameters and modules, but please keep in mind that it is a simplified method (specifically one that doesn't use any software or power tools). If you're looking for a video that goes over pressure angle and profile shif...
Popsicle Stick Articulated Finger Extensions Analysis
Переглядів 3,1 тис.Рік тому
Hi there, this is a brief explanation/analysis of the finished articulated finger extensions. Although I already made a tutorial for them, there were some other things I wanted to share. NOTE: I also recently found out that these don't work in rain. I took them outside one time, and the water made the wooden joints really jerky. When I brought them back inside, they worked again when they dried...
Articulated Finger Extensions with Popsicle Sticks Tutorial
Переглядів 4,4 тис.2 роки тому
Hi there! Since Halloween was coming up, I thought that I would create a tutorial for articulated finger extensions. The mechanical workings are Gary Fay's idea, but I thought that I would design one with a shorter length so that they would be a little more convenient to carry around. Here are some notes from what I learned while making these: - The popsicle sticks aren't always large enough, s...
Cardboard Pendulum Clock Mechanism Tutorial
Переглядів 49 тис.2 роки тому
Hi there, I recently made a pendulum clock mechanism, and I hope you find this tutorial helpful. If you want to make each "tick" exactly equal to one second, you can use the pendulum formula to determine its length. If you want the mechanism to last longer, you can lengthen the string or increase the number of teeth on the gear. If your mechanism isn't working, try experimenting around with the...
Iris Shutter Mechanism from Scratch (No printer required)
Переглядів 56 тис.2 роки тому
Hello there, I recently made an iris mechanism and learned how to draw out the parts with a pencil and compass, so I wanted to make a brief tutorial out of it. Here are a few important things to know in case you didn't catch them: - The width of the outer ring must be half of the diameter of the center - The holes the pegs are slotted into must be centered along the width of the ring - One blad...
Sine Wave Automaton
Переглядів 1,7 тис.2 роки тому
Recently, I made a cardboard sine wave automaton. It was a fun project, but I ran into the most trouble around coordinating the conveyor belt and mechanism. Luckily, it was mainly due to the paper not being wrapped around the wheels tight enough, and I was able to quickly fix it. Although, if you plan to replicate this project, I would probably suggest adding more teeth to the gears to improve ...

How to make a Portable Paper Name Plate
Переглядів 2033 роки тому
You can make a portable paper name plate with any sheet of paper. This video was created with WeVideo The music is from freemusicpublicdomain.com
nice, I was trying to figure out how to design similar mechanism in my 3d print, and struggle with calculating the blade size, this is a really huge help
Hi, which vertion of solidworks you are using
You remind of a guy who makes all sorts of air powered engines using paper. Sadly, I've forgotten the name of his channel😢
❤ Please another number of teath
Amazing tutorial, clear instructions and you have good music in background
Size of blades?
Thanks 🙏🏻👍🏻
Ficou muito bonita a sua explicação! Matemática, Geometria e (essa linda) Musica! Poesia!
Hi, Excellent work! Can i use this video into my photography tutorial video for social media? Thanks in advance.
Yeah, totally! As long as there are credits, feel free to use it however you'd like
I'm an industrial design student and this video helps me so much! Not everyone has access to 3D printer and maybe the only best bet we have is creating these type of gears with PVC foam. I love you for this, thank you so much!
If only they could play sounds
So cool!
Great "Hello World" in spur gears design! And its amazing the way handle the pancil!
you hold your pencil like a kindergartner holds crayons
False and little slow if you have mouth please say
The model is very nice!!! But could you send the measurements maybe??
So many many many thanks mate i dont know anything about gearwheells until saw your video thanks mate
I have no idea how to put it together so it works and I am struggling hahaha
Same I wish the would do an actual step by step tutorial lol!!😭😭😮💨
Have you ever watched Tim Burton's 9? Do you know if it's possible to make an aperture where the blades are able to move in such a way that the iris can move, rather than staying centered? I think it would be cool to make a character whose eyes were apertures and could move like the characters in that movie.
I've never watched 9 before, but I do enjoy Tim Burton's work, and I thought the trailer was pretty cool. I see what you mean by the eyes moving, and while I'm not exactly sure how to do that, I've seen some pretty cool puppetry mechanisms before than manage a similar motion with the head or eyes. If you were to combine the iris mechanism with whatever the puppets use, I'm sure that'd be one way to copy that effect.
@@cressyism Thanks, I'll look into that.
Oooh grandioso!!!
Gracias por compartir tu arte y planos
Great 😃👍
Do you have the solidworks assembly and parts? Could you post them? Thanks
It's in the description.
@@PurePain_1I could only find the pdf blueprints and not the .sldpt solidworks files in the description
Here's the link to the files in drive, I will also link them in the description: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JiYSpF9M6iNfu6KcERSJEMxrVHf3Qmup?usp=sharing Thanks for letting me know!
@@cressyism Thanks
Do the measurements need to be exact to work
Usually the more precise the measurements, the better chance it has of working. This design of a pendulum clock mechanism was my first, and I believe there are many parts that could be improved, so go for whatever works best for you.
@@cressyism Can you please show the inside of the gear hitting the mechanism? I just cant get it to work 😭
And also thanks for nothing now I'm gonna fail my project
CUT YOUR NAILS LADY
Finally an easy way to understand how to make gears I tried looking up a template but I could not find what I need now I have something
Cressyism is Asian. How do I know? Delicate pasty white fingers with long clean fingernails.
the variable z (number of teeth) must be a multiple of 4, right? 🤔
Not necessarily, z can be any number, I think I just happened to choose two example gears that had the number of teeth be a multiple of 4
@@cressyism yeah after some experimentation I made some 6 teeth gears along side the 8 and 12 teeth gears in your vid. your vids are great 🌟 keep on sharing knowledge cuz it helps people
the diameter of the cirlce
ขอบคุณครับสำหลับการสร้างแบบ😊
Can you do a tutorial on how to create the treadmill powered lifting machine? Plss I need it on Tuesday , advanced thank uuu
Your ideas are wonderful plz share more and help us learn😊😊
Wow... Keren 👍
gente não cai nessa fake news
falso não funciona 😂😂😂
Make it in 3cm
Love it thank you please can you send me a dollar I am from Nigeria
Why???? Btw I'm an Indian girl
GENIUS, I've been lurking on UA-cam for something simple and perfect. This is what I was looking for. Thank you for helping me with my school assignment!
its so hard to make the gears
Buy 3d printer if youre rich, im not
cannot get it to work for the life of me

Great Job. Belo trabalho. Parabéns
next time the arm wings and hand wings should be correctly sized. specifically, the span of a hand wing should be greater than that of the arm wing. an arm wing is formed by tissue and feathers spanning the gap of the arm hand bones. instead of powering the hand wing, it can be made to passively bend, during upstroke. hand wing, brown-gray arm wing, blue-green swanlovers.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Anatomy-Birds-Wing-BD4-600.jpg anatomy www.welcomewildlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Bird-wing-structure.-Shyamal.jpg
Good project, but it will be nice if the wings are articulated
wtf do you think articulated means. !?!?!??
very nicely done
The is genius
Hi there, Please see my introduction video on my aperture I built ten years ago. ua-cam.com/video/cpdQGh1y3F0/v-deo.htmlsi=L12DXI-LPOfcwZwv Regards, Jeffrey
Cressy, nexttime, artificially upscale the video to 1440p or something. YT shits on videos less if it's high res.
Isso foi espetacular!!
