Running a Cruisers 4450 from Atlantic City to Deltaville VA, trying to make it into the Chesapeake Bay before it got dark, had to slow down because it got too rough. Had four more hours to go after this video and the waves got way worse, No moon, it was not a fun night

Wow, cant believe how horribly its handling in fairly reasonable seas. Maybe trim it a bit or increase speed. Might do a little better.

Cruisers have been building tough boats for a long time. Back in the day, when the military needed wood boats for going through possible mine fields, Cruisers was one of many great lakes builders that built wooden boats. My grandfather went across the pacific in one. Several 40 footers had to make it on it's own across in any weather with a convoy. Bobbed around violently, but they all made it. A lot of them never came back, were either blown up or abandoned later.

When heading out hang a left behind that marker at the end of the north jetty. Same as coming in its a good place to stage and ride behind a wave. It gets teal confused sea past the ocean mouth of that inlet.

The channel markers in that area are notorious for moving around and the shoaling is some of the worst I've ever seen. I got a 40' Ocean that I've taken through that area a few times in some seriously hairy situations where I thought I was gonna lose it.

Wow great vid! I owned that exact same boat and ran her overnight, on a moonless pitch black night no less, on Lake Huron in 12-15' seas. Not exactly my best show of decision making there I'm afraid :-) We ran about 8 knots for about 8 hours to get to our destination. That is a LONGGGG time in brutal seas with zero visibility for most of the journey. It is amazing how much you think about the various systems on your boat and how any kind of failure could put you in an absolutely dire situation. The boat can totally handle it but my nerves could not, so that was my last night crossing. What type of speed did you maintain on your run? Seems like your clipping along pretty well, 15-16 knots?

The boat was a 1987 41' Egg with twin Caterpillars that was a repo i was moving, wind was coming directly on shore at 30 to 35 knots and the tide was going out. It really looks way more menacing in person. seas were about 8' and very confused. Alot of shoaling and sand bars at this inlet so alot of water moving in odd directions. Boat ran great and handled pretty well, rough ride but she stayed together. We came in the night before at about 11:30 at night from Connecticut and had some dirty fuel filters that slowed us way down so we had to come in this inlet at night from offshore, Not safe at all, we had 20' breakers right on our stern pushing us in the inlet. it was a one shot deal on low fuel. You may say yeah right 20 foot waves, the wave was crashing and the top of the wave was even with the top of the hard top that i measured to 22' would have swallowed that boat if we had lost power or had made a navigation error and had to stop or course correct...
