In this video, you first see Comet Lovejoy in its perihelion (closest to the Sun) phase of its orbit around the Sun. The first half shows 171 Angstrom extreme ultraviolet (EUV) images from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) instrument aboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) satellite. The first half shows 131 Angstrom extreme ultraviolet (EUV) images from SDO/AIA. The running difference...
Simultaneous Double Eclipse of the Sun

Here's something that not many people have seen! A SIMULTANEOUS double eclipse of the Sun! Extreme ultraviolet, 171A, 193A, 211A and 304A images acquired by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) / Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) instrument. The Sun is first eclipsed by the Earth (SDO has eclipse "seasons") and then the moon follows. The Earth's shadow has a fuzzy edge because of the Earth's a...

Foghorns are cool. Stay warm guys!
wow, you managed to capture the sound rather well. Lots of bass rumble. How?
Nothing special done. Maybe my phone did a better job? We were closer than previous GOES launches and it was a larger rocket (Falcon Heavy for GOES-U versus Atlas V for GOES-R, S and T
Wow. Something you don't see everyday, or anyday soon from the roof terrace...
You definitely won’t be seeing EUV images from the roof terrace! :-) SDO is in geo orbit about 22000 miles above the Earth.
The railroad crossings are broken
I think I heard him say "Merloo-oo-oot"
Definitely! 😂
SO UNDERRATED WTH
To me this is much better than the launch. Thanks.
I use to think this was the original color of the sun since this color was used a lot for documentaries videos or books but apparently its not.
This is a colorization that we apply via a color map from pixel intensity to color. This is extreme ultraviolet light (EUV) that you would not be able to see with your eyes. The 304Å wavelength corresponds to the Helium II emission line. SDO/AIA is primarily an EUV imager, but includes a couple of UV channels and we take 1 white light image per hour.

Ralph, if you use Liquid Air inside the Piston as working fluid, it will extract heat energy from the atmospheric air. You don't even need hot water to make this stirling engine.
hey, i recognize that "lab"
IF THE SUN ARE CREATING A DOT SPOT THE MEANING OF THAT SUN ARE STARTING TO REMOVE THE SKIN OF THE BLACK HOLE ON THE INSIDE OF THE SUN USING FOR ASTEROID,COMET OR METEOR AS A TOOLS OF THE PLANET
Wouldn’t that be funny if one day the sun spot became so big it stopped burning?
No?
Looks like a pupil to me. :O Awesome.
Looks more like a door way into the sun and not to mention a sun flower 😝😎

Wtf my stirling engine spins 3 times faster sitting on my tea cup alone.
Back in the 60's and 70' spent a lot of time on this river. Floated it from the far south end....took three of us three days. The following year, five of us (including my eldest son) repeated the float, only spending five days doing so. Have to keep a sharp eye out for rattlesnakes, because they are there.
I've seen a fastest stirling engine from a soda can in India
Curiosity creates wonders🤯
Incredible life giving star. So precious and powerful yet so damn delicate in a way. We are nothing without it.
Very cool!
I have the same situation. I have a 460 volt 3 phase motor and 220v single pahse. I do have a transformer 4kv that will take the 220v to 460v. I need to find a 460v single phase in VFD to 469 3 phase out
We were using an ABB VFD (ACH 500, I think). It took 1ph in.
I have a 60HP motor that I am trying to use as a rotary phase converter. Do you think it would be feasible to use this technique (using a small 5HP single phase VFD) to slowly get the 60 HP motor up to speed then switch over to mains power?
Hmmmm. 5HP is an awfully small VFD for a 60HP motor. You could try it, but the tricky part is the timing of disconnect VFD snd then powering the motor. You definitely want to do a full disconnect of the Vfd
Anyone else doing the "The Sun - Assignment" for the UoA Astro100G paper? :eyes:
I was thinking of using Fresnel lens to heat the top simply using the sun, it can reach thousands of degrees in heat and liquid nitrogen for the bottom. Just popped in my mind randomly and I found this video! Do you think this would be plausible? Replacing the air with Helium is a good idea as well as it has higher thermal conductivity , a higher heat capacity, and a lower viscosity which will make the engine perform much better.!
Rolando Basaca, it would certainly increase the temperature difference, but you’d have to build a beefy unit to handle the large amount of heat you’d be putting into it. I’ve melted quarters with a fresnel lens. Pennies are trivial (Zinc), but quarters are mostly Nickel...
what is the black hole in the center?
Sunspot.
Where is this at?
cool, any detail?
Katch Ya, we put liquid nitrogen in the bottom starch foam cup and we were putting hot water on the top plate. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stirling_engine

Mine has a graphics card inside with a VGA connector on it. You probably can get a PCI VGA card somewhere. Remember to get PCI (which is old standard), _NOT_ PCIe (which is current standard).

Hello, with this cardboard mycelium method what do I need to do? I mean what needs for culvitation? I put mine in the refrigerator just now. Am I do this right? Or it needs warm and dark place?
It is the famous sunflare at the origin of the discovery of the Three-minute Oscillations by Ryan Milligan and team (see "The Astrophysical Journal Letters", 9 oct 2017)
... that was serious. it could have killed everyone. Thank you God, it did not happen.
It looks like holes in the ice of the North pole where seals breath. Does this indicate that there is a huge hollow space inbetween the Sun's hot surface and its core? Since the gravity of sun is stronger not in its center but in the middle position from Sun's surface to its center, there could be some possibility of hollow space inbetween the crust layer and core of the Sun. Time will tell us.
isn't the sun just a ball of gas? There's no hollow part lol, the whole thing is just gas of varying densities.
I *love* your videos. They're amazing! Question: doe we have sufficiently high resolution images of *strictly* sunspot evolution to make 4K UHD videos specific to sunspots? Where like the sunspot takes up the entire frame? What devices or observatories would be capable of this kind of imaging, if any? And has such imaging been done? I would *LOVE* (even more) to see 4K UHD movies of sunspot evolution. I want to see EXACTLY what's going no as sunspots evolve, in as high of resolution as possible.
As an aside, I can't help but note that the observable atmosphere/surface of the sun appears to be completely dominated by and under the sway of electromagnetic phenomena... Not surprising, given we already know that many specific features of solar surface / atmospheric phenomena are electromagnetic in nature... www.universetoday.com/29447/solar-sigmoids-explained/ Clearly there are large scale electric currents going on, as well as field-aligned currents ("Birkeland currents"). It's pretty clear that coronal loops and coronal "rain" are electromagnetic phenomena in plasma from start to finish. Easily analogized to the lab. (See: Paul Bellan's work.) ve4xm.caltech.edu/Bellan_plasma_page/ phys.org/news/2012-08-plasma-loops-solar-physics.html And I just don't see how anyone, with a modicum of understanding of electromagnetism & plasma (even without the ability to do differential maths & such), could look at it and think otherwise... One would assume we should be referring back to the work of Kristian Birkeland (for things like sunspots, coronal loops, prominences, etc.): www.plasma-universe.com/Texts:On_Possible_Electric_Phenomena_in_Solar_Systems_and_Nebulae If only science hadn't gotten trapped in the gravity-only paradigm for the better part of last century... How much further along in our understanding could we have been?
Indescribably beautiful. Thank you for posting this.
Sun creation has been out since 2009, but NASA still shows edited views of the images to hide features.
Idiot, you can observe spots and granulation with telescope everybody can buy. You can also go to the nearest sun observatory to see it with your own eyes. But dumb people like you don't even do the effort to understand...
some notes: The entities that line the sun spot sometimes arrive before the spot appear and they are not stacked up on top of each other as the image show. The granules the show bubbling are transforming into human entities and the sunspot creates horses which are shown above the sunspot.
+Dave Stacey I'll have an ounce of whatever the hell you are on!
dude you crazy
Wow! The running difference movie gets massively mangled by UA-cams encoding. It looks good in the original MPEG-4
Didn't know that STEREO was still alive and kicking! That's our baby from wayyyy back when!
Awesome!
to think, there's a possibility that out in the distant universe there could be an intelligent civilization who thinks of our sun as just another star or so far away that our Milky Way galaxy is just one of billions of other galaxies to them.
