Ep. #90 SEASON 3 FINALE ! Wildcat
On this 90th episode and Season 3 finale of Fabulous Film & Friends we’re going to dig into 2024’s Wildcat, centering around the life and works of Great American Author Flannery O’ Connor and directed by Ethan Hawke, starring the director’s daughter Maya Hawke, Laura Linney, Phililip Ettinger, Cooper Hoffman, Steve Zahn, Rafael Casal, Alessandro Nivola Christine Dye, Vincent D’Onofrio and Liam Neeson.
I’m your host Gino Caputi and joining me this week to try and unpack all of this literary and cinematic heaviness are Lit major and self-proclaimed QUEEN of the College Library check-out counter, my kid sister Roseanne Caputi, Author, hyp-MO-therapist and pop culture critic Joe Field and a man who lived the life of O’Connor’s Southern heartthrob OE Parker, replete with tattoo long before it was fashionable: Gordon Alex Robertson.
Before the duel of wits begins: the synopsis:
Wildcat details the physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual and familial battles author Flannery O’Connor endures after she is stricken with Lupus and desperately attempts to ascertain God’s purpose for her and her gift for writing sardonic and uncomfortable grim morality tales.
What do we all make of this endeavor?

    The little girl wasn't Max's daughter, it was another character from the Fury Road prequel comic.

    • @drcaputi
      @drcaputi 3 місяці тому

      Thank you for the clarification! Though that is more George Miller confusion. How many moviegoers read that comic book? And if one didn't read it, what else was one supposed to assume?

    • @ioncewasmikey
      @ioncewasmikey 3 місяці тому

      @drcaputi No worries! So there was actually going to be a video game that would serve as prequel to Fury Road as well & Miller would have co-created it. With all the nonsense with Warner, he was made to relinquish that project & it did go on to be made, though its story is no longer fully canon. What's more confusing though, Scrotus is the main villain of the game, Miller created that character as well, he exists in the prequel comic & now of course showed up in Furiosa. I'm not sure if you know this, but the idea for Furiosa & a story where we'd follow Max in the year leading up to the events of Fury Road were written as backstory for that film. It would appear Miller was so fond of those backstories that he wanted to turn them both into films. We got Furiosa, but Mad Max: The Wasteland would most likely focus on the relationship with Max & the woman & child we see in his visions in Fury Road. There's also all kinds of information out there regarding Mel not returning as Max. Fury Road actually began development in 1999 or earlier & Mel would only commit to it if Miller was able to pull it off in the next couple of years as he felt he was (to borrow a co-star's iconic quote) getting too old for this shit. So by the time Fury Road finally rose from the depths of development hell, he was far too old to commit to such a physical role. I don't really have any doubts that the controversy surrounding him for a time played a part too, though.

    • @drcaputi
      @drcaputi 3 місяці тому

      @@ioncewasmikey I had read most of this, but I think that's just Mel being affable and political. I'm betting somewhere his pride was hurt. In my mind Fury Road would've been 100% better with Mr. Gibson, continuity be damned. And watching the original Mad Max again, knowing his wife wasn't really dead, it seems that those memories should've plagued him. No need for comic books and video games to supplement the story. I remember when JJ Abrams Star Trek came out, there was news that there was a tie in comic that explained everything about Nero. I say "Nuts to that!" If it didn't happen onscreen or was explained onscreen it didn't happen. Everything else is just fan fiction. Just my standards, of course.

    • @ioncewasmikey
      @ioncewasmikey 3 місяці тому

      @drcaputi Maybe so. I actually heard that bit about Mel's age from an interview with Miller. But that could have just been the political answer, of course. I think I also heard Miller say he didn't have any stories about Old Max, so those 2 statements of his don't really mesh. I get what you're saying about supplemental materials, but Miller was directly tied to the comic story (as well as the writer of Fury Road & the storyboard artist who's worked with Miller for ages) & would have been handling the game events as well had the project not been taken from him, so I don't see the comic as fan fic at least. And if all the pieces had fallen into place, an official Mad Max game could have gone a long way toward garnering new fans of the franchise. As it stands, I've heard the game is actually great, the story just isn't 100% canon. And it released alongside some huge titles so it kind of got lost in the mix. There are all sorts of videos about it here though, so if you're at all interested in what it covers, the info is easy to find.

    • @drcaputi
      @drcaputi 3 місяці тому

      @@ioncewasmikey I saw the Miller interview about Gibson as well. Maybe I'm too cynical but I don't buy it. I think it has everything to do with Mel's outrageous behavior. Maybe it seemed like the right choice at the time but as the years go by it's like replacing any other beloved actor. It's usually for the worst. Especially for the series in question. As far as comics and video games, I just don't have the time or interest to read and play supplementals. It's great for fans who want to dive in, but the movie should stand on its own IMO.

And the commercial center - Mosque road, a busy street, and a foodies paradise which is covered with shady trees. Fraser Town has many notable institutions stretched in Promenade, Spencer, and Ware road. As per the video, we still have Albert bakery to be the best seller for naans, muffins, samosas etc. And Fraser Towns Thoms Bakery as well, a one stop shop for wide variety of stuffs, with great quality of bakery items. It is an excellent video, showing all the olden days of Fraser Town. A lovely place overall. ☺️

    Shocking number of baby girls killed! Why has this been happening for so many years? How has it not been possible to turn this around over these decades. Is it so ingrained in our very DNA that we wish to smother to death the baby when we know it is a girl? What is perpetuating this Gendercide? What else can you call it and what sense can you make of it? Petals in the dust is a welcome documentary investigating these and many other questions that plague those concerned about this dangerous trend. Congratulations to the film-maker and her entire team for going out on a limb in search of the answers in the hope of not only raising awareness among the many levels of our society but also catalysing a shift in mindset which will be the one thing that can change if not reverse these senseless crimes against the female gender! All the very best! And literally, may your tribe increase!!!

    Gender discrimination has been & still is a growing problem in India. It is such a shame to watch how men treat women in India. We as a society need to change our mind set and teach our daughters that NO man can take advantage of them or treat them w/ disrespect. Women need to stand up for their rights and instead of pointing fingers lets help each other become strong in the community. If we don't show respect to each other....how can we expect others to treat us w/ respect. Violence against women shouldn't be tolerated & movies like this need to be supported. Lets all come together and show male dominant society that YES its about time to change how girls are treated.

    It's funny to see someone take the wind out of all these overwrought cop shows that litter the channels these days: the annoying split screens, the obviously too young actors playing 'grizzled' vets, and the tendency for these shows to take themselves too seriously. For those who have their doubts they only need to look beyond the apparent woodeness of the acting and see that it's a deliberate device to emphasize the satire. "That's why I'm a womanizer" is pure comedic gold!
