No they don’t. They sell screw-type stakes which do not hold in the sand. This a patented invention specially designed for the beach. Unlike what you refer to, it won’t rust, it fits in your pocket, and nobody’s feet will get injured by tripping on it as nothing but the strap sticks out of the sand.

As you rightly point out, the holding power of the BeachGrip kitesurfing anchor does depend on the quality of the sand, and wet sand is preferred ; However in dryer, finer sand, a little more effort must be put into setting it up properly by burying it deeper and packing some more dense wet-ish sand on top, but once it's in, it really holds - especially as a kite does not pull vertically but at a low angle when resting on the beach waiting to be launched.

@@beachgrip-BG makes sense. As with all self launch and land devices, you should best use on steady days where you can ensure a stability on edge. Otherwise it's always best to use a trained helper or to land with safety release. I have one and will be trying on beach in Chicago and primarily use if there is nobody to help land. For example, I'm the last person off water or I need to come in while everyone else is still out. Somebody usually has to self land and generally use center line method but always have a back up system around, which has been a rope and carabiner on a fence post but like something you bury in the sand so that I can land closer to where I come out of the water

I forgot to mention it's super portable. That said, it is easy to forget so I recommend you use a brightly colored rope or even a bicycle flag in the ground so people don't mess. It's always interesting how adults will let their kids mess with other people's stuff in public. Whether usually just unaware of the potential hazards

It’s exactly what the BeachGrip is about: having something to replace somebody in occasions like the ones you’ve described, like when you’re the first one to get back, or the last one to launch. It is not meant to promote riding solo in very windy conditions, but rather to be a useful device to help when needed.
