2024 Orcas Island 100 mile race from Jason Fedchak
Переглядів 3829 місяців тому
The Orcas Island 100-mile race from Rainshadow Running might be the toughest 100-mile trail race on the Pacific Coast. The course consists of four loops in Moran State Park on Orcas Island in Washington's Puget Sound near the Canadian border. The total ascent is over 26,000 feet, and the winter conditions are part of the devilish charm that makes this event so challenging to finish.

Salomon ADV Skin 12 Set Review for Trail Running
Great info from your review of the Endurance Pack ! Also some great testing on some tough treks !! Please post some info on how you secured the bladder hose magnet assembly; it looks like it flops around without it ; Thanks!!
Mine starting dropping from.high power to medium after a minute of use. I got a replacement and new batteries and it still happens. Ivr had to cycle throigh power settings to get high beam during races. Super annoying. Customer service couldn't help. Any ideas?
Congratulations on your finish!!!! Orcas is a beautiful beast of a course.
Thanks! We were lucky with the weather this year, so it was a more gentle beast.
@@JasonFedchak Yes, the course and weather was ideal . . . Until the rain Friday night. I was safety sweeping early in the race and then was volunteering at Moran. You looked strong every time you came into Moran.
Awesome! Thank you for sweeping and volunteering!
Thanks for sharing! This looks hard and amazing at the same time.
Thank you! It definitely was both of those things.
does it get hot when using it?
It doesn't get hot at all
Lexi is hot!
What is the minimum age requirement?
There isn't one. Contact MTS for the next run.
Can you provide what size your items are please that you demonstrated on the run (T-Shirt, Belt & Shorts).
Tees are small to 2XL, shorts are small to XL, belt is small to 2XL
Great review. And this one compared with the Petzl SWIFT RL?
Less expensive than Petzl but performs about the same
Thanks. I like the Petzl's weigth and the Lenser 's battery, It's a big dilemma. 😂
Thanks just saved me a load of cash for such a piece of expensive over priced tat
Thanks for making this. I just picked up the RFP and was wondering what to do with the hose to keep it out of the way.
its cheaper, but you get what you pay for. my switch would not work had to send it back
that's crazy
Beautiful area of the Goat Rocks Wilderness. Good to see you having fun. Thanks for sharing.
Does the sleeve in the back where the harness adjustment slots are go all the way down? I want to insert a poly framesleeve for a little better rigidity...I don't run or fast pack in it. I just wear it to get the weight on my core and not my back or hips.
Do they make a internal frame sleeve for the hydration pouch? I don't need a fast pack per say, I just need to get the weight off my bad shoulders and hips as much as possible.
step one briefs most NOT talked about boxer briefs for hikers n runners... soooo damn good seriously Check em out STEP ONE
I have 2 pairs of liner crew and 2 pair of the no show. I will be buying 5 more pairs of the liner crew my favorite of all thier socks so far.
Great Video! Thank you! Can you tell me what the clip at 3:08 is for? Thanks a lot
Just for hanging it up on a hook @mahe96ac
About to order 7 pairs to go with my Vivo Forest ESCs. Thanks for the video.
Nothing about how warm they are?
What time of year was this run? I’m looking at doing the Squak Mtn 50K in April and have never been to the state of Washington before.
This was in January. Expect rain in April, but there shouldn't be any snow. Good luck!
Very thorough review! Thanks
How long did it take?
It took around 12 hours. It was a hot day and not much water in the PCT section. It can be done much faster, depending on the weather.
Thanks for this review. How is the sizing of the Spark compared to Altra (Superior 5 or Escalante Racer), specifically in women's sizing?
You should add a half size for VJ Shoes. For instance, a 9 in a Superior 5 should be a 9.5 for the Spark.
Wow, awesome video!
Is the VJ Ultra good for OCR’s ie the mud, drainage etc.
VJ made their mark in OCRs. The Ultra is a good shoe for long, muddy runs. The new XTRM or Spark are great for shorter distances.
How does it compare to the NEO 10R
The NEO 10R is light, but the MH10 is much brighter and the battery lasts longer. It takes a few runs to get used to it though.
That was a useful review. I have been conserving one of these, but at 6'6" I've found it hard to find anything that fits. Thanks for taking the time to share this info.
Score!! Great interview with Laney 🤘
very lame review
Very exciting comment🤣
Thank you. Reminds me of Washington- the cold and wet!
Thank you for your video. Is the bladder fits in the mesh pocket (closer to your back)? I was worried that this part may not be strong enough to hold the bladder so I thought it is fitting in that other waterproof pocket where it fits perfectly - however this pocket doesn't have any hole for the hose...so my hose is at the bottom of the waterproof pocket, goes up to go into the mesh part, then get in the bottom hole to then slide up through the front pocket. It works but I find it strange? Thank yoy
It is a little odd, but it works! Thanks for the kind comments
A three pocket short with zips? Oh man. This is the holy grail!!
Is ot better then petzl aktik core? Hownmany hours you can get with medium setting? For ultra running
Wow! the effort it would take to run this is bonkers, but to film AND run!? Great work, ya'll!
Such beautiful trails and a great channel, my friend! Glad to find other running channels like mine, to share passions, ideas, learn from each other and grow our channels together! Fully watched, appreciated and subscribed, dear friend!

Isn't too heavy for running??
While not as light as some other lamps, it's great for running.
thanks for this review and the video footage. Very helpful!
Thanks for review. You said that you wear size M. I usually wear size 32 waist. I am 5'11 and 165 lbs. Do you think that size M would fit me?
Thanks for the comment. You sound like a 32"
Great video…… thank you
Are they tight in the crotch?
Looks like a great event!
Thanks for helping out!
Might try the Kigers for road running and weights... Maybe overkill for pavement but I like the styling and maybe I'll go on some trails.. thanks for info!
Is the Prolog discontinued?
Looks like it. Too bad, it's a great bag.
@@nwdirtchurners thanks
@@johnlamorie3340 Salomon has updated the bag to the Outlife Shuffle. It's the same bag with tougher material. snp.link/3e2777a9
Does the Wildhorse 7 continue to have a rock plate in the forefoot? PS: Great detailed look into both shoes.
Thanks for the comment! According to Matt, they have not changed the rock plate on the Wildhorse.
Recently got a pair of WH7's, they're great apart from one major gripe. The outsole is close to dangerous when running on wet surfaces. Even walking around in the city in a drizzle you have no confidence. Nike really needs to work on their rubber compounds. Other than that, dry traction is great, the foam is very supportive and shock absorbing. It doesn't feel like there's a rock plate at the front, if you step on a pointy rock you can feel it. The highlight of the shoe for me is the fit. No matter how tight I tie my laces there no hot spots, no pressure points. Excellent! Currently have around 45km on them on mixed surfaces, hope they last a long time. Just don't buy them if you run on wet slabs.
@@soulzerosix I've noticed this too. I recently bought a pair and took them to the trail on a drizzly afternoon. They were great on hard packed trail but when commuting to and from the trail I ran through paved surfaces with slight inclines and I could really feel my feet sliding a touch on the slightly slick ground. Like you said the lockdown is great. Traction is good on trail. I've done a couple half marathons in them. Feet felt fine afterwards but legs were a little tired. I'm putting this down to the weight? How did you find them as a commuter shoe? Running on road? The gaiter is a nice touch and upper is highly durable. Love this material but doesn't aid in breathability. Perhaps not a summer trail runner but passable. An added bonus is their look. Wore them from the trail to the coffee shop and they didn't look too out of place. Edit: I don't think there's a rock plate in this too. Certainty doesn't feel like it.
@@m3phist0 Not a very committed runner, mostly mtb, but mix it up when I can. Running on tarmac was fine, the react foam is soft enough for my dodgy knees. Longest run was 11km though, no idea how they feel in longer runs. I'm in Greece and May can be pretty hot but I didn't have issues with breathability. Surely there are shoes that let way more air in, but I don't think they will be as durable. Agree on style, it's what originally drew me to the WH7, I got the yellow colour, love it.
@@soulzerosix I'm Greek too. Born in Naousa, Imathia but living in London now. When I visit family I love going up Mount Vermion. Will bring these next time I'm allowed to travel again. Hope all is well where you are.
Great info, Matt should do more interviews!
We agree!
Just purchased one. Can’t wait to try it.
Thabks!
Do you have any insight into the USWE pace pack and how the fit would be for women? Specifically with the two soft flasks bottles in the front, and maybe how it would compare to the Salomon Advanced Skin 8 design?
Hello! I wish I had some insights for you, and I do not know any women running in the USWE pack to ask unfortunately. Good luck in your search, and sorry I could not be of more assistance!
@@matthewclover730 no problem at all! Thank you for your response!
