No prob. I might criticize the game and all its flaws but it's a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. I wouldn't recommend paying more than $10 for it though, as it isn't exactly one of the better games on the PSX. It's no Suikoden I'll tell you that lol

I appreciate the feedback and the opinion, but even with newer games the English voices sometimes get on my nerves. It might not be the voice acting as much as the method they use to record said voice acting. I mean, if I were sitting in a box with a script and no interaction I'd probably sound like this too.

UkyoKuonji2010 Most casts of games are recorded separately because of scheduling issues, so yeah no chemistry, that's very true, as well as the lack of real acting training that those behind this game seemed to have. I guess I meant just the way the writing, while not poorly written, does not flow well when read out loud. It has that Metal Gear Solid problem too of having half the dialogue be the characters repeating what the other said in the form of a question, but MGS obviously also had a much more experienced and professional cast. As I said, I think this may also have been just the translation teams available at the time, because Cup of Team Productions, who localized Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss (Which I just finished recently, and that had fantastic voice acting and writing), and so on have done a great job, a better voice director I guess? Anyway, I'm interested into squirming my way into the VO business one day, so that's why I'm so obsessive over this stuff haha. You have a very good point, since we have little perception of what makes a good voiceover performance in Japan, so it sounds more natural to the ear, then the disjointed way English voiceover is sometimes recorded, no matter the quality of the performance.

I think it's also, as you mentioned before, the era. When this game first came out, regardless of which country it's in, voice acting in games was practically still in its infancy. Japanese recording sessions usually have more than one Seiyuu in the booth at one time, so they can even act out certain motions their characters are doing and it's more like they are talking to each other instead of a wall. English translation is an issue as well, but I never saw that as a huge issue. Localization teams, from my experience, do an okay job with that. Of course, there are exceptions to everything I say. Tales of Vesperya has awesome voice acting ~_^ My personal favorite Tales in English

UkyoKuonji2010 It was in its infancy, but that doesn't mean there still wasn't some great work that slipped through the rest. I didn't know that about Japanese recording sessions, acting out the character's motions sounds like something I would do naturally haha. I played Symphonia, really enjoyed the opening hours of the plot, but eventually hit a point where neither the cast, or the story compelled me to go on. Tales of the Abyss hooked me the whole way though, and despite its monotonous pacing at times, I loved the extent of it. Haha I hear so much about Tales of Vesperia, but unfortunately I chose a PS3 over an XBOX 360. Still on my Abyss high, I bought Tales of Xillia a few days ago. The English cast in it is excellent, although the cast of characters so far is not nearly as unique or compelling as Abyss's......I recommend Abyss if you haven't noticed yet haha. It's one of those games that takes a bunch of tired anime cliches, and turns them on their head, while having Tales' trademark great characterization. Anyway, thank you for your work, and your time.

UkyoKuonji2010 ~~ I was going to play Star Ocean: The 2nd Story (just got done watching the OVA, kinda made me wanna play the game) ~ but uggggggh... the voice over work sucks, and the Battle mechanics are kinda "meh." Think I'll play this instead.

I played Star Ocean 2nd story as well. I liked it because it's like these games only futuristic. I didn't like the voice acting as well but it didn't take away from my experience since I usually muted the game or the voice acting.

Google FF6 +android you'll be surprised. Not sure content wise but definitely graphically. There are also android emulators to record of off. No pressure just saying.

I just started playing this game and I love the intro so far. Im alittle past the "dragonball" part. Ive got my goal set to beat every PS1 JRPG that exists ^.^

haha not you... just the game. i guess you can turn it off but it turns off all voice acting including battles... is that right?

That I don't know. I never really tested that much with the sound settings. I think it would get rid of the fight voices. And hey, I need SOMETHING to poke fun at in this game right? May as well be the shitty VA
