The truth about volleyball tipping drills and feedback - a sample in-depth look with coachmikegee
We took a close look at common volleyball tipping drills and tutorials. In this video, I challenge the way coaches commonly teach players to tip and. Specifically, I look at 1) the same approach every time, 2) the same arm prep with elbow back every time, and 3) the slowing of the arm just before contact with the ball. This video is taken from a 80-minute conversation that I had with fellow volleyball coach, Jason Corwin.

I love this drill! Question - On the Stop & Freeze drill. Where is the ball coming from, inside the net, over the net, middle,? Where are the the passers lined up and stopping to 30 ft, 20 ft? Is the tosser tossing the ball before the passer starts to shuffle into position, so the passer has to figure out where to go before they stop & freeze, or does the passer move before the ball is tossed?
On the second drill, I don't like the way the girls are retreating. They are going straight back. I teach my girls to take a drop step and shuffle back. This allows for a quicker retreat and more time to be ready for the hit. Retreating straight back is slower and easier for girls to get their feet tangled and trip.
The girls don't move for the ball they just stay the elm

Love this video especially the stop and freeze part. Do you think that would be too advance for 11 + 12 yrs old
Good one :DD
I like the drills and repetition the girls are getting. They need instant feedback which can be down cheaply by acquiring an old tivo and video cam set up on an av cart with and old tv set. This will allow a 5 to 10 sec delay so the player can do 3 reps of a skill and then run to the tv to see how they performed the skill and then work on things either they see or the coach points out...extremely invaluable!! Have a great season!!
Most if not all of the passed balls were outside of the girls' centerline which generally creates shanks or inconsistent passes. Their weight should be middle of the foot to the heel back about 60 deg angle and arms down center of body keeping close to the body using it more of a backstop.
