Conquer the High Desert Challenge! Disc Golf Hole of the Week 6/11/2024 at Snooks
This is a shot you don't need, and shouldn't ever use. This because it is easy to putt 30 metres, and your longest putt is always more accurate than a short throw. Period. End of story.
Love Milo!! Especially during the summer when you can dip in the Clackamas river 😁
I was in the bottom 14 last week when the sun went behind the mountains and it got cold quick haha. When that sun is gone the warmer temps don’t hang around long that’s for sure.
Im from salem, i may have to make the travel to play this course
Excellent breakdowns.
Thanks to Stumptown Disc Golf & All Day Disc Golf for thier support and continuing efforts to make this course Oregon's best
There are plenty of courses that are made for beginners. DeLa isn’t one of those.
You're right DeLa is awesome for disc golfers. In our travels we have not found many beginner courses that get people into the sport. I'm working on a video to address this and get a list of 5-star beginner courses
I'm very new to DG and I pull or early release often, wouldn't a jump putt be more accurate?
A jump putt definitely works here. I find that if I jump putt, my brain thinks I should try and get it in the basket. This often leaves me with a long putt (over 25'). The throw in this video tells my brain that we are laying up and making an easy putt. Which is a great confidence builder during a round.
Dallas is growing up so fast! Can't wait til he's on tour.
Pretty good production, on top of solid advice! I prefer to use 5 Aviars - typically DX or R-Pro - and practice in my side yard for up to about 100 feet. I also have a basket out there which I sometimes practice putting from certain lies. Maybe the worst of the 5 throws I put them all in. Stuff like that.
Thanks Nick. Sounds like a great practice routine!
What do you mean when you say 'head down'?
When I say "head down", I'm trying not to look at the target too early during the throw
That view is stunning!!! Wow! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous of that.
It was pretty nice. Hope you guys are well
Great job with the golfing and sharing some dear moments with the family. Very familiar with this course. Not losing a disk here without your trusty retriever buddy is impressive. I've probably lost half a dozen discs there. Sometimes you're lucky and you get a call back. Seems to be about 50/50. I was wondering how you handled hole number 10, which is probably the most difficult one to figure out playing it blind. I've taken some big numbers there. The only straightforward shot there is the tea shot. I mostly play the short tees and figure until I break par I'm not worthy of playing the long tees. You have a nice game. I can't throw quite as far as you and I don't think I have your solid putting game but still have a good time.
Blue Lake rough was brutal. I tried to play most shots in the fairway that was visible but I got lucky to not lose a disc there. Hole 10 was interesting. The hardest part was the tight green. Playing it blind I just tried to stay in the fairway and not go for the green. I don't quite have the distance for a forehand there. If I played it again, I would probably throw a backhand that turns left to right and try and land it to the left of the basket. Unless I land within 25', I'm probably laying up for the 3.
@@roamingrangediscgolf Thanks for the response, now that I'm thinking about it I really meant to ask you about hole number 11 the next hole. To me that would be on especially difficult one to play blind. That one and 17 are way less than obviously the first time you experience them. Regarding hole number 10, I served as a spotter on that hole the last year that the Portland open was played, partially, at Blue Lake. That was fun. I still remember a shot that Ohn Scoggins threw, probably her destroyer on a flex forehand. At first it looked like it was going to go out of bounds into some thick stuff on the players left and just as I started to kind of move in that direction so that I could see where it landed, the stability kicked in and it turned right toward me. I was able to dodge it and it landed into a very good position in the fairway. She really wanted to run the putt but, for reasons that you know, she reluctantly laid up with a big Ohm smile and a shoulder shrug.
putt is looking sharp!
Thanks Wes! It was on that day
Your advice is great! So cool to see mountains on the horizon! No views like that in most places
Grand Junction Colorado sports some amazing views of the mountains. Definitely worth a stop if you are ever traveling through.
Good tips, I like the focus on fingers.
That was the first time I heard the part about flicking the target. It really does work!
I’d love for him to describe what his fingers are doing/feel during the putt. Is his pointer figure just guiding or is there pull on the rim for spin.
I've been practicing this putting style and for me, the fingers are just guiding and extending to the basket. When I try and pull on the rim I miss the target to the left or the right. What I'm finding is that a good clean release putts nice spin on the disc which keeps it on target.
I hope you get a chance at playing Columbia Shore DGC at Fort Stevens in Warrenton Oregon.
@@johnpincombe6720 wish I could’ve played that while we were there
@roamingrangediscgolf cool, I've have enjoyed your videos and will look forward to new ones.
Just stumbled on your channel. Subscribed! Love the camera work and commentary. Fun video, and beautiful course. I need to get up there again soon.
@@justinbutler8418 thanks man. Sure was a fun course!
That's a good dog.

Local here, I was told it was originally intended to be a ball golf course but either ran out of money or someone backed out but that's just the local network. Great video and commentary. The course now has some new holes and 36 up. Don't forget about Timber park, a top 10 course in Oregon, literally across the river from it.
Well it worked out for the disc golf world. Great courses. Thanks for the tip on Timber, I’ll have to check it out next time I visit
I had heard the same. It definitely looks like it was or could have been a ball golf course. I heard that when the state parks department took over, there was a park ranger who played and figured they had the fairways already cut, they might as well put tee pads and baskets in. I love playing through the old growth forest next the the river like that.
Glad someone saved me all the typing, I’m also a local and came to say the same thing.
Nice...your throws were good to watch...the course is definitely a beaut
Thanks 👍
Awesome, Disc Junction is the best shop! Dallas is a great player and nice guy, played with him a few times at local league. Great video thank you

Tough course 😮
Very tough course
I'm 72 with a lousy forearm, my average range is around 100-125 feet. Guess I'll go out tomorrow and practice this....Thx.
Thanks for sharing! It's awesome that you're getting out to practice - that's the best way to improve! With consistent reps, you might be surprised how much smoother and more confident your forehand throw can get. Focus on a clean release and controlled form rather than power. Let me know how it goes!

Stokely Discs Wren! (By Scott Stokely)
Wren from Stokely Discs. They are so good! I like them in the Strato plastic and I'll be switching my putters to these very soon. Do you have a pro shop near you that carries them? @ScottStokelyDG
Great tips, great video. I am LOVING Roaming Range! Keep it up!! 🔥
It's coming together. More good things to come!
Loved watching your tips
Dallas did a great job teaching!
you were OB on 16, sorry bud lol glad you liked our courses!
Great courses! Nice to meet you guys
You forgot to mention my signature flex line 😂
We should do a video on that signature shot!
Rainshadow is an awesome course. I'm surprised that you didn't at least show the alternate tee box on 7 for our "top of the world" shot. While you are out in Washington, I suggest hitting up Shelton Springs as well. It's a full DGPT tour stop this year and they just put in 2 long tight par 5s to challenge the pros a bit more. I'll be there this Saturday. Hope to see you out there.
I wish I knew that was the top of the world shot... the rain was coming down that day so I just played what I could. Thanks for the tip on Shelton Springs
Thanks for the video. I like seeing people play my favorite course. The baskets looked great!! We just painted them.
That is awesome! The baskets were great!
Hey. Great video. Glad you enjoyed our course.
Beautiful!
Thank you!
this course blew my mind to see
So cool to play a dedicated disc golf course. And didn’t require too much distance so it caters to most players skill level
I feel like we get spoiled so much in Oregon
The courses I've played so far are really fun
wow what a stunning course! looks like the Stig is true to it’s numbers at your elevation
It really is!
If you only throw 250. It is really hard
True. I used to throw 250 and I still think this drill helps you know where you stand on 300' holes. I used to bogey these holes going for those 50 footers only to three putt. Now I know better. Take my 3 and move on.
@ my problem is since I can’t birdie these holes, when I eventually take a bogey which will happen, I can never get that stroke back
Beautiful course! Great video. Love seeing families getting out and having fun! 🔥
Couldn't agree more!
This is good advice. The other thing to be concerned about is wind depending on where you are. Wind changes what disc to throw as well
I agree. Practice in the wind is not fun but it helps when it counts.
Really nice explanation of how to practice dialing in a hole, as well as how to create analytics to measure performance. 🙂
Thanks!
great video! loved your landing zone idea- learning picking where you to land while warming up the putt!
It helps simplify the hole. Glad you liked it
Solid Advice.
Yeah man!
I mean, i dunno who would think the roc and the svea would fly similarly. Sveas dump out, especially in cheap plastic. I converted to Kasta because they are far more reliable and better plastics.
It was more of just a benchmark comparison. I know how a new Roc flies, so I wanted to compare. I have many Rocs with different beat in levels and they fly more like the Sveas. I love the Kastaplast feel off of the shelf!
Great video!
Thanks man!
I'd return those Innova Eagles for false advertising
That is a great course that I played while I lived the Grand Valley. You should join up the local league Grand Valley Disc Golf. Great people!
Great course! I've been playing some leagues here in the area and they are awesome
@@roamingrangediscgolf They are good for strengthening your game.
Have you tried measuring out your own course in a city park somewhere? I do that mainly out of necessity because I do not own a vehicle I am almost 62 years old, so I decided to design a course in a 25 acre city park, and a 9 hole course in a 15 acre city park in the small town I live in. sorry I have not video taped the fairways to share with anyone, but it is a whole lot of fun to use as a practice course.
@@StuG-pr9tf I do find myself setting up my own practice shots at the park. Sometimes I prefer this over a 18 hole round
