Silat - Warrior Gym

      I completely agree. I’ve been in hundreds of street fights and this is bullshido. I was a huge fan of Bruce Lee as a kid, but after fighting in the real world I realized very little of this stuff works on the street. If it did you’d see working it in MMA. It doesn’t. Everyone on you tube these days is an expert in something. This is expert bullshido.

    One thing that bothers me in Mathew polls book it describes Bruce's sparring with wong shun leung and bruce struggled to decisively beat him using jeet kune do. Bruce couldn't land any kicks and wong got through with a hand to Bruce's throat. Fifty years later a witness to this admitted if he had to pick a winner he would have to say bruce. Jkd should have ended it in seconds but didn't.

    That sparring looks like garbage. Listen, you can sparr with light contact, but with quality technique and with good timing. Light contact doesn't mean garbage technique. Those kicks were being thrown a mile away and they looked so telegraphed. Light contact sparring should be done with good quality technique, and with good timing. The whole idea with "light contact sparring", is to practice good technique with good timing under light pressure (or with someone who is not fully cooperative), without hurting your training partner. "Light contact sparring" is NOT where you abandon using good technique. It dosent look like Dan was actually training or sparring with anyone at this point, he looks more like an old coach in this video.Dan probably stopped sparring around the time Bruce died. At one time, Dan was pretty active in the national circuit with Karate tournaments, and this was all probably before Dan started training with Bruce.

    It looks beautiful. You just never see this stuff performed live in a sparring situation. I have an automatic Silat sweeping response when I am in a certain position, but I never get there in a sparring situation, only while doing trapping training. I think for empty hand grappling and throws, wrestling, Judo and Jujitsu are the way to go. Boxing for hands, Silat and Fillipino arts for stick and knife and knees and elbows., Muy Thai, Savate for hands knees elbows legs. Silat and a lot of the Kali stuff is too preprogrammed for empty hand fighting.

      If a championship Olympic fencer said 'here's my favorite winning technique' and showed you, you wouldn't be able to DO it. Same with BL's JKD, designed for HIM, with his reflexes and speed. Imagine how frustrating it was for him to see 'club fighters' try to do his stuff, like Tim Tackett or the Wednesday group. They were too old, too slow. Sure Kudos to them to try and perpetuate it but they knew they were just going through motions. None of them were going to go get in a bar fight with their 'BL fav moves' after class. So beyond perpetuating, what's the point?

      @axelstone3131 11 місяців тому

      Yeh, that’s true. You never see any intercepting or fencing from Dan or his students. Concepts is a “classical mess” Bruce tried to get away from. “The majority of people who practice Jeet Kune Do are mixed up, they think it should be a part of Wing Chun, a part of MMA, a part of Thai boxing, a part of wrestling, you know, a part of Wing Chun, which this is completely incorrect. You don't go from style to style, you go from distance to target or target to distance. Longest weapon to the nearest target and the most direct and efficient route possible, that is Jeet Kune Do.” - Tommy Carruthers

    This isn't Serak. This is a made up collection of made up techniques from Paul's brother Victor. It has no discernable relationship to Serak. Pendekar Paul's Serak and Bukti Negara did not emphasize locks as much. In the examples shown here, none of the platforms are being used, such as Tiga or Sliwa. It's just all completely made up from spending a short time training with his brother for the purpose of making money. It probably looks good to a beginner because the attacker falls down easily. However, many of the examples shown are 'heavy' and require a lot of muscle and force, which means they are not viable against a stronger person.

Quite number of people like to mention in comment sections they had close connections with Bruce Lee through his former students, whether they were student of Kimura or Jesse Glover, BUT THEY NEVER DEFEND BRUCE LEE from naysayers. Was it one of the reasons is probably because they were students who, didn’t graduate, couldn’t cut it to be a fighter, cancelled future fighting lessons was embarrassed by his/her instructor.
