I make stuff and things.
Hi, I'm Geoff, and I hail from a suburb of Gillette Stadium, MA. I make videos on woodworking, metalworking, leatherworking, laserworking, and other stuff. Sometimes (ok, maybe more often than not) a bit janky, and definitely not THE Norm. I'm a lifelong student, and always learning new skills here, so hopefully I can share some helpful information along for your own journey. Or at least provide some entertainment!
Thanks for watching!

I Made a Sign for Xyla Foxlin!
While at WorkBenchCon earlier this year after seeing Xyla Foxlin's new shop tour video in which she hinted about someone making her a BotalToat sign, I went and talked to her about it and threw my hat into the ring.
Using a sticker she gave me of the BotalToat "logo", I went off to make the sign entirely out of acrylic, an LED strip, and using ONLY TotalBoat TotalBond CA glue (and a little of their 4 minute epoxy) to hold it all together.

I think I'd have gone with weld bond adhesive for acrylic instead of glue, that way it'd be one piece after it dried.
Yep, Weldon #4 is my go to for acrylic. But this was for a TotalBoat "store" in her shop, and ToralBoat just released their TotalBond CA glue. So it was a little collab.
nice work but I would probably have cut a hole in the black boat so the blue would have also illuminated to but without all the fuss & maths of inlaying it, just a cut out 3mm smaller than the blue to give you room for glue
I tested out a few designs, inlaid into the white acrylic and the black acrylic (which didn't give enough glue surface to work with using CA glue (which was my plan all along for this sign for the TotalBoat tie-in). I did even resort to weldon #4 for one of them, but it tarnished the acrylic all around it. So, finally settling on the design that I did. This was one variation I did not try however. Where were you 3 months ago when I was making this?! 😃 Thanks for the watch!
@@TheNewJankyWorkshop I worked as a sign maker for 30 years but never actually tried CA glue, for something like that I'd have used a dichloromethane based glue which would use capillary action to go between the surfaces
@@neilsullivan6416 Very cool. I am but an infant as it relates to sign making in comparison! I can now add dichloromethane to my vocab, sounds much cooler than "Weldon #4" :)
@@TheNewJankyWorkshop I know what you mean, I said that because here the product we mostly used was Tensol (12 I think) though we did buy unbranded back in the 90's which is were I learned the name. With a bit of practice you can even laminate clear acrylic without seeing air bubbles
Yay,another shill for the completely annoying epoxy company.
Thanks for watching!
Can anything be done about that white "bloom" that the CA glue leaves on the acrylic?
Yes, you can use isopropyl alcohol to clean that up a bit, or even some acetone. I didn't worry much about it, as it was in the guts of the sign... much like the back of a canvas painting or the underside of an upholstered chair... no one ia going to see it, so it can be a bit messy :) It's the accelerator which really exacerbates the white residue. Leaving the CA glue to cure on its own would have less of it. I did a short on cleaning that stuff up here: ua-cam.com/users/shorts1B8x9bUilyw
Make one that reminds her to put more clothes on. Nobody wants to look at that mess.
Nice work!
Thank you man!
That's awesome!
Thank you so much for checking it out!
4:56 Spaceballs!!!! They went plaid! 😂😂
4:35 dumb question, but does it being glass keep it from glueing together, so you can reuse the syringe? I know CA doesn't really stick to glass, but didn't know about the plunger, needle etc. Or is there a cleaning process to do after using? Like flushing with some kind of solvent?
Thanks for watching & the commentary! :) I have not had an issue with any of the needles. Been using that trick since March-ish (learned it from either Jimmy DiResta or Derek from Malden... or both... I forget). They usually come in a multi-pack however, which is nice. I am sure if you dropped the syringe in some acetone, it'd clean it right up. You can also get thinner gauge needles to if you need to for more precise application, as well as probably needing to stick to a thinner CA glue as well if going that route.
@@TheNewJankyWorkshop I will definitely be buying some then! Added to my cart and will order when I remember what the other things I needed for my current project is, lol
@@justinbanks2380 Nice! I just order things as I remember them, so some days I have 3+ orders placed on Amazon lol :)
3:08 that game graphic to tell the story of a common pain 😂
It really is just annoying... I had to have some fun with it :)
@@TheNewJankyWorkshop understandable and we appreciate the humor
Nice work, it turned out awesome!
Thank you good sir!
Adhesives on plastic will never hold well enough. You need to use a solvent made for that plastic type, which is like welding, they become one piece.
You are not wrong - my usual go-to for acrylics is Weldon #4. If you check out my video on the lightsaber mount build, I use that exclusively, and it's still holding like a champ with several lbs of lightsaber on it for well over a year. That being said, I wanted to specifically work with TotalBoat and their TotalBond CA glue for this project, since at the time it was a new product on the market, Xyla has them as a sponsor, and it was for her "TotalBoat Store" in her shop, so, it all just seemed fitting :) And this stuff with some surface prep worked out extremely well.
Nice work. Never knew about debonder
Thanks man, much appreciated! Yeah, I discovered debonder via a video from Adam Savage years ago, so its been in my arsenal for a while. It is not a magic wand, but it helps!
I think the best video editing/story telling I’ve seen come out of your shop. Solid my dude!
Aww shucks... thanks man. ♥

Perfect tractor box hammer. Thanks fella
Thanks for watching! I actually keep mine in my toolbox that lives on the outside of my truck, and its perfect for an emergency thwacker.
I have never seen anyone use WD40 as a finish on wood! Also, it comes in a spray version? Not just aerosol?
It was a slight joke 😃 But it does protect a little bit, and did make the walnut pop (and also the plywood!). And its going to get on that thing eventually anyways 😃 I use a lot of WD-40 around the shop, so the cheaper route is to buy it by the gallon (amzn.to/3BaqV7y), and then you can just use a regular spray bottle - looks like the one I have isn't on Amazon anymore. Thanks for watching!
@@TheNewJankyWorkshop I figured using as a protectant was more of a joke, it still surprised I never saw it before. I don't personally use a ton of WD40 myself (my dad does, like waaaaay too much on anything he uses it on) but I'll have to look into getting some in non aerosol form. As I tend to work on a lot of smaller stuff so the aerosol always makes more cleanup than it's worth as it goes everywhere. Lol.

Thanks man, and thanks for watching!

Thank you!
Sorry but this workshop looks too messy for me 💀

Nice! Looks like you’ve got everything you need
Could ALWAYS use more...

Thanks for watching!
you ain’t kiddin bout “janky” lol
🙃
The way you made use of every square inch of your space is impressive. From the overhead storage to the rolling carts, everything seems to have a purpose even if it's not super polished. It’s clear you’re more about function than form, and I respect that.
It either needs to have a function, or be something aesthetically pleasing. I like to look around and fish for ideas and inspiration as I need it. It's like my own little tree fort loaded with materials and power tools. :)
Love the janky style, it’s so authentic!
Thank you, much appreciated :)
This is such an honest and relatable tour. It’s refreshing to see someone who doesn’t try to pretend their workspace is always spotless. Real workshops are meant to be messy because they’re meant to be used! Keep up the great work.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! That was clean for me... it's usually in a state of "I have 10 projects in flight, and not enough flat surfaces!" :)
I love how you’ve got everything so accessible yet organized in its own way. It’s like controlled chaos, and it clearly works for you. Plus, having your wife’s stuff there too gives it such a personal touch!
Thank you! Yes, it is definitely a controlled chaos. And some times, things do end up in the ether (but it allows for a later discovery) ;) Since I am mostly a hobbyist (although commission work does keep me busy). I get the chance to also build a lot of stuff for my wife's business. My long term goal is to work for her full time. She can take all the space she needs (and she thinks that the stuff I do is cool... which helps!). Thanks for watching!
Bro that table saw setup tho 😍🔥
My OCD is hurting but I gotta admit it works lol
Sorry bout that... this is somewhat functional for my OCD... I know exactly where everything is (mostly). 😉
Can’t believe you fit all that in there - tight space!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
I'd love to have a setup this practical someday!
I hope you do!
Wife’s stuff in a workshop too? Respect!
Absolutely love being able to use my shop to build her stuff for her business!
dude, this is the exact vibe i need in my shop 🔨
Thank you and thanks for watching!
All that stuff and still organized? Impressive!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Bruh, that welding cart tho 😍🔥
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Not gonna lie, the clutter makes it feel realer
Thank you and thanks for watching! I attempt to keep my clutter (hoard) organized ;)
Whoa! That retractable air hose system is genius! Definitely adding that to my list of upgrades for the future. Super convenient for getting around without lugging things everywhere.
I freaking love retractable hoses. I can reach everything from one place in the shop, and that is what I need! If I ever need air in other places in the shop, I can think about plumbing some hose, but for right now, this seems to work pretty decent for what I need. Thanks for watching!
dude i got pretty much same table saw
It's good to have all 10 fingers still, isn't it? :)
This workshop is crazy practical, love it
Thank you and thanks for watching!
It’s cool to see a space that’s actually being used, not just shown off for the camera. You can tell everything has its place and purpose. This is how a real workshop should look, full of life and projects.
Thank you. I agree! Although some of the cleaner shops I have seen also see a lot of real work in them. I guess its just a matter of preference. I tend to lean towards the Jimmy DiResta/Adam Savage/Laura Kampf camp of "I need all my stuff, and I need it around me." :)
