Workhorse 1975 Biscuit Test
In this video we're going to be performing a biscuit test on the Workhorse Pits 1975 smoker. The biscuit test is a great way to test cooking evenness across the entire smoker. Knowing where your hot and cool spots are is a great thing because it allows you to move food around to cook a lot of meat more evenly. For example, if you're cooking multiple pork butts and one is cooking much faster than the others you can move it to a cooler zone to slow it down. Let's see how well the Workhorse 1975 performs in the biscuit test!

Smoked Short Ribs (Plate Ribs) - Epic B Roll
how much did it run you? found one for 4k, only 2 months used
I think it was a little over $5k without tax and shipping. I’d grab that one if you’re on the fence. It’ll sell quickly!
Dream set up for me. Beautiful backyard with a beautiful smoker. Live it up! On the days you feel down, know that someone would love this set up.
Honestly, you just made my day. Appreciate you and the comment!
Strong work on this! Looks like a great choice. Subscribed!😊
Really appreciate that! Thank you!
Regular people can't really afford that kind of duckets 😢
I hear yah! It's definitely a bit pricey, but that's why I give my recommended option at the end if you're looking for an amazing smoker for half the price.
I have had my G2 for 6 months and have many cooks in now, and I have no regrets. It is an awesome smoker, and also probably the best smoker for a beginner if you have the budget for it.
It's really such a solid smoker and hard to beat for the price.
Definitely would love to afford this pit someday maybe. Just purchased the char griller grand champ for $600. Enjoy your video, love your shirt brother..... Subscribed
Hey man, the grand champ is great. Definitely going to get great bbq from it. Appreciate the follow! Shirts are available on my site if you’re interested.
Love this smoker, you are making great vids on this, thank you! Side note it almost looks like your ears are tucked into your hat like a 5 year old tee ball player lol. Keep the great content coming!
Haha. Yeah they are tucked in. I got big ol’ ears and they flap down when I wear it regular. 🤦🏻♂️ Appreciate you watching. My family got a kick out of your comment!
Looks really awsome man appreciate your review .. i have a problem with the door opening because i have the 1975 wagon old version . So what you recommend me in order to solve this issue because its i have a lot of pain because of that door 🙏🙏
Hmmm.. yeah that’s tough. I know they’re selling the counterweight separately. Maybe pick one up and have someone weld it on for you if it’s not something you can do?
@@fattybuttsbbq do you have any info about the counterweight metal type.. and can you send me the dimensions of the counterweight and the distances between .. i may be able to do one for me.. thanks very much
I was looking at the Mill Scale 96 and the Arron Franklin Pit. Then I found the Workhorse in the others review. I purchased te 1975 and it should be here this week. does it matter if you use tallow of a cooking spry to season?. Thanks
Good move! Nope it doesn’t matter if it’s spray or not. I use the spray since it’s easier on the inside.
Nice a new video kinda been waiting for
Appreciate you watching!
I thought I had more biscuits on hand but this is all I had for the test. Normally it's a bit hotter right near the sides of the smoker since you're dealing with more radiant heat as well. All-in-all, it's a pretty solid representation of how even this smoker cooks. I do recommend closing down the damper a bit to help with the draw and move the hot spot closest to the firebox.
That's the temperature I usually take the thighs or quarter legs when I throw them on the offset .....
My man knows how to do it! So much better right?
I have a 75 Wagon, its the easiest smoker I've ever used. I'm not saying that you don't need to know something about fire management and how learn how to use it, but it holds temp so easy and creates the best product I've ever been able to make off any type cooker.
So true man! It's really hard to beat for the price and quality.
Love the video bud. I’m struggling to decide on my first really good smoker and after this I think I want to save for the G2. Only issue is I’m from Las Vegas and hard to get
Yeah the freight can be crazy on smokers - i live in NY and it's always through the roof. You should call them directly and see what they can do for you. Iron Pits makes some amazing smokers and located in vegas. Def worth checking them out but the price will prob be higher.
@@fattybuttsbbq Yeah I saw some of there smokers, there smallest and cheapest at $2k but the quality does look… to bad I can’t get a Fatty Butts type review of there smokers lol.
@@BowTiedVeteran Haha. Reach out and tell them to send me one. Tell them I help sell a lot of smokers. 🤣
I've already ordered my 1975 on the wagon. In fact, it should complete fabrication next week. But I can't find any mention on their website about the tires. Are they air filled? I'm wondering what steps will be advisable to keep them from going flat or otherwise breaking down when it is parked in one place for a while. Can you tell much about them?
I’m away on vacation so I don’t have the size, but they’re air filled tires. Similar to what you’d find on a ride on mower. Hope that helps! I’ll get the size if you need it.
No need. That fills in what I needed to know. I will plant to add air when the seasons change to keep them from going flat. Thank you. Have a great vacation!
Aww I love that!!
Thanks Mary!
What smoker is that?
It’s the workhorse pits 1975. There’s a full review of it on my channel.
Mid-high 70s San Diego CA.
Now that’s what I’m talking about! 😎
Come on to South Carolina where we have 100 degree summers with 100% humidity! A nice soaking wet heat….. what I would imagine being steamed like an oyster feels like.

Boner time!

Thanks!!
I'm glad I built my own .not only was it $1500 for a 150 gallon pit but that also included a welder, plasma cutter and all the steel to build another pit. Possibly a 250
I’m in process of building mine now, I got metal free from work, Ive already built the cart, I may have $300 in it when I’m done, i really only had to buy wheels(scrap yard) and new thermometers. It’s too easy to just copy a design. Plus I’m building in my company’s shop, they have all hoists and tools
“Just kidding there’s no coffee.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂🤦🏻♂️
Great review! Workhorse Pits is the king of the mountain. They got everything spot on. Especially the way it cooks.
@@williemakeit7185 thanks so much! They really did nail this one! 🙌🏼
I shoulda bought this when u posted it
@@BBQ_JerrY why’s that?
I have the 1975t as said above mine doesn’t have the counter weight either. But I really don’t need it so it doesn’t bother me. But I’m glad I got the trailer I take mine every and sell it and do pop ups. Mines already paid for its self and then some
The wagon is a beauty! Makes a ton of sense with pop ups. Kind of kicking myself for not getting it but at this point I’ll buy a trailer for $1k and roll it on with these big wagon wheels. Haha
@@fattybuttsbbq lol I don’t blame you brother. Kinda like the counter weight deal I would have got it had it been the option. But I’ve been lifting it now for 8 months roughly. No reason to worry about it now. Nice video keep up the good work brother
This video helped a lot. I saw this smoker at Buc-ees in Colorado and was pretty impressed with the build quality and metal thickness. I’m sold.
Awesome man! Glad it could help. 🙌🏼
What about a 16 inch Classic Horizon? About $800 cheaper. Non insulated firebox though.
I've never used it but does look pretty nice. You lose the top rack and the insulated firebox, which is probably the game changer for this smoker. I think the smoke collector and stack on the g2 might perform a bit better but that's just a guess. Prob can't go wrong for the price though when comparing to the OKJ Longhorn or similar smokers. The brazos would prob be a true competitor to the horizon though.
How would you compare the G2 vs the Kamado Joe? I know they are different animals, however I'm curious because many people smoke on the Kamado Joe. I agree about less expensive smokers, they seem to be really hit or miss and can confuse people who are new to smoking meat. Some people get good ones,I got a bad one and modded the heck out of it and it still sucks.
Honestly, if it’s your main grill I’d go with the Kamado Joe. I use it 90% of the time and replaced all my other grills and pellet smokers with a big Joe 3 and classic 3. However you still won’t beat an offset using all wood for smoking in my opinion. I’d get the offset unless you need an everyday grill/smoker.
Be careful with those 2 90 on the drain. Probably will build up in horizontal section. Maybe do a 45 degree
Didn’t even know they made 45!
Great in depth review of the cooker. I live in North Fla and have been eye balling the workhorse 1975 for a while now. Have been comparing to some of the pits you mentioned in this video but this has helped me decide the 1975 will be way to go. Keep up the good work
Awesome man! Really glad I could help. 🙌🏼
If you're in/going to the Orlando area, Proud Souls BBQ and Provisions in Winter Park is a retailer for Workhorse Pits. They had two 1969s on display last weekend (8.17.2024). They are open daily. Hours and location on the Workhorse web site.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Great review and now enjoying your other videos. Thank you 😋😇👍
Wow thanks so much!! Really appreciate it!
Mine is on the road; the counter weight wasn’t available when I ordered it but I’m not to worried; great review 👍
Thanks man! You’re gonna love that beast - counterweight or not!
What inch elbows for ball valve drain? Good idea 👍
@@tpharo34 they're 1" but someone recommended getting 45 degree so i'd probably do that instead so the grease dont build up in the horizontal part.
@@fattybuttsbbq okay makes sense
I have the 1969 and love it! Good luck with the 1975. Looks fantastic!
Nice man! Love the 1969 and was really close to getting it instead!
Did you get their cover? I can’t remember if you said or not and if so, does it work with stack up? In all the pictures of the cover the stack is down. I was just curious. I would keep my stack up and would want to cover it.
I didn’t. It’s back ordered for a few months and I wanted one where I could keep the stack up so I ordered a custom one. Should be here in 2 weeks and I’ll post a short of it to see if it’s worth it.
@@fattybuttsbbq awesome thank you brother I stumbled across the website where I could order a custom one too but the pits not delivered yet and I wasn’t sure about a couple measurements so I’m gonna hold tight lol can’t wait to see your video. Hopefully it works out. Perfect. Appreciate you!

Nice man! Appreciate it! Up in Maine right now so as close as I’m getting to Canada for a while. Haha
Id love a comparison of how much better is 1975 food vs the g2. Im sure the 1975 is better. But is it worth teice the price? How much easier to run, hols temps, got a good bark? The air flow is so good on the 1975 im aure the bark is better, but how much better?
I don’t think you’re going to notice a bit difference in the bbq that comes off of them. The g2 is a solid smoker that uses similar size wood, has great draw, and maintains heat well. This is just much larger and more of a beast.
I believe the G2 is smaller.
@@wardad5628 Yeah it's a lot smaller. I meant the 1975 is much bigger.
That new counterweight looks awesome. That was one of the things holding me back from buying the first version. I live in Ga, so shipping is way cheaper than any other smoker
Oh yeah, the shipping savings is huge for you! Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Appreciate you checking it out and commenting! 🙌🏼
Any scoops or baffles?
Not 100% sure if they consider it a baffle, but there's a welded on plate that's angled down right above the firebox that looks like a small baffle. Does a great job without moving the hotspot towards the middle of the cooking grate.
@@fattybuttsbbq Thanks!!
@@fattybuttsbbqthat is a grease catch to catch grease from rolling back into the firebox.
@@tpharo34I was referring to the plate on the top of the firebox not the bottom.
@@fattybuttsbbq ohh okay i f they did that’s great slow down the radiant heat
Counterweight works!!! Yeah Definitely needed and looks Cool😊👍👍. Cowboy firebox is a must imho
Couldn't agree more. Appreciate you watching and commenting!
What do you think of the new counterweight?
Respect from Austin,TX doing a hell of a job!! Oh and we hit 100 degrees yesterday so I don't want to hear about 80s lol!!!
