    Help please (80yr old Senior): 2023 Forester Premium Automatic Transmission - I dropped a single mail box key on the gear shift center console near the gear shift. The key SLID out of sight in the rear direction. The gear shift works perfectly without any interference. Do I have to bring the car to the shop to have them take apart the consote so as to get that loose key out. OR.....can I just let it stay where it is and not have any problem. I'm hoping it simply slid into a plastic cavity.

      If it were me, I would leave the key where it is. If it begins to rattle or you simply want it out, it should not be a terrible job to retrieve it.

    The area of the bowl is 35647mm2 The area of the tipping collector is 5824mm2 Your maths is not correct. If you want the same rainfall to be indicated in both containers you should see 19mm in depth in both. The tipping collector is 1/6.12 the size of the bowl, therefore it should only have 1/6.12 of the water volume in it for the same rain event. Another way to explain it is that if you had a bowl with a diameter that’s 1/6.12 of the original bowl the rain collected in the smaller bowl should be 19mm in depth. =

    • @ZookeeperJohnG
      @ZookeeperJohnG 2 місяці тому

      My math is spot on based on NWS reported rainfall in our area. Accounting for differences during more isolated rainfall events as compared to larger area steady rains, my testing and the math resulted in a near zero error to commercial devices costing many hundreds of dollars.

    What version of the 2013 Subaru Outback is this, and what transmission are you using? I'm very interested in doing this modification on my own 2013 Outback, which is the 2.5i with a CVT. Personally, I used a dedicated Maxim MAX6816 device to remove bounce interference. Then used a syringe to inject a known volume of water into each trough receptacle until it tipped. This gave me the volume of water per tipping point. Simply count against time for rate of rainfall and volume of rain. Frankly with such a crappy little rain gauge tipping bucket at £10 per gauge, it hardly warrants such scientific analysis. I send my rain gauge data to my ESP32/Nano-based central weather station every 24 hours by reporting via a two way NRF24L01 link. The overall weather data is then retransmitted using ESPNOW to a large LED matrix display that also displays rain rate/total (mm) wind speed, gust, direction (as an animation), barometric pressure, outdoor humidity, indoor/outdoor temps, time, sunnrise/sunset (as an animation) and finally moon phase (again as an animation). All good fun.

    • @ZookeeperJohnG
      @ZookeeperJohnG 5 місяців тому

      Rainfall is not measured by volume, but by depth, that is inches/mm. This "crapy" sensor, along with it's careful calibration, mean that accuracy is within a few hundredths of an inch over 1.5" - 2" of rainfall.

    • @ZookeeperJohnG
      @ZookeeperJohnG 5 місяців тому

      Not my experience, no issue with debris at all and rainfall is still not measured by volume.

I have a little Honda C90 motorcycle I’m doing first and even a motor and battery for that is more than I want to spend. I’ve been looking into maybe using MG1 or MG2 from the Prius on a VW bus gear reduction on each of the rear wheels. I need to hit my local salvage yard to see if I can pick up the Prius parts I need. I understand the mechanical aspects, I run a machine shop, but I don’t have a good grasp of the electrical engineering. I hope you get to move forward on your project.
