If you've never decorated before, practice is a must. You can practice on waxed cake boards or any washable surface. Writing takes practice too. I would recommend using only enough frosting to comfortably cup within your palm. If you try to squeeze too much out at once, you lose control and add strain to your hand and wrist.

Okay, im a newbie, taking wilton classes, Im making my son a 1/2 sheet cake this weeken, and i like for the corners to be same level and square as possible, usually the corners are down. Okay, I will using a whipped topping so I will try and apply a good amount, thank you. Your cake turned out beautiful btw.

For me, it's about the pressure applied and the amount of frosting. Start with a good amount of frosting and then you can use more pressure. It gives you smoother and cleaner lines. Also, you can use the scraper to cut the access frosting off. It takes time and practice, but you can do it.

Can you tell me how I can get perfect square edges on a sheet cake? Im a newbie Im having trouble getting good edges on the cake. thank you.
