Oh yeah...

You seem to imbue a sense of quiet and calm in your space. Be kind to yourself and take your time. We teachers tend to over-prepare and then feel that we've underaccomplished if we don't get through what we planned to do.....of course always be prepared, but expect that things will go slower than you anticipate. Allow for taking time to think and be. Children will thrive in your calmer space - no need to rush or pressurise (there's enough of that in the outside world).

I feel like every school year I am just getting things done at the last minute. Aghhhh!

The older kids in our school are not allowed to be in costumes, but our preschool is somewhat separate from the rest of the school, so we let them wear costumes if they like. We don't really have a party, we just follow our normal routine with Halloween themed activities.

Our school does not celebrate Halloween. If children come in with colored hair, they are sent home. 😢

This year, I'm turning the little ones into walking, talking book pages by having them dress up as literary characters and perform skits for an audience of bleary-eyed parents in the morning. It's like a breakfast theater with a side of education. Plus, I've witnessed classes where the older kids morph into vocabulary words - it's like a live-action dictionary, and honestly, it's pretty awesome.

Halloween parties are fun, but exhausting. I’ll order pizza for the kids and we’ll play games or watch a Halloween movie and If the room gets too loud, I'll get out the Koosh ball and we’ll play silent ball for a while.
