One skirt new subscriber here. Having just watched two super-length videos on projects I will most likely never make (by Vincent Briggs). But this I might.

Flat patterning is challenging! I have been sewing for donkey’s years but only flat patterning and making mock-ups for about 2/3 years. It’s definitely some kind of dark art!! Especially around armholes/shoulder slopes/necklines/boobs - all those curves and proportions!! I’m in a Lengburg bra dress rabbit hole and bra/bust cups seem to be highly challenging in any garment!! I think you did a stirling job! 😁 Thank you for sharing. 😊💝

Your next thing to learn about is, pattern matching. Very important with plaids.

A few years ago I bought some Pendleton wool at their outlet store in Pendleton, Oregon. Lovely fabric and they had working looms there making wool fabric. We got to tour the loom room.

A suggestion: If you ever want to sew an invisible zipper with a lining, install the invisible zip to the main fabric as usual. Then flip the lining down, right sides together, so the lining covers the zip. From the main fabric side, you can stitch slightly closer to the seam allowance and attach the lining. That way your lining should not get caught when you use the zip. Beautiful skirt. I wish I lived closer to the Pendleton factory.

I also wanted to ask how you make your sewing machine to sew slowly? I think I have the same machine, I find it hard sometimes to control it's speed.

Well done you! Congratulations for taking the plunge and having the self confidence to start - once over that barrier there will be no stopping you! You should be mighty proud of what you have achieved! It is all about patience and you have that in bucket loads!! Of course corset making is addictive - soon you will need the appropriate one for each fashion period and then you just want to start again! Your Video has made me itch to make a better version of my Victorian corset now :)

You did a great job! One too I've seen from others making corsets that may help troubleshoot the shortened pieces is to pin (or, even better, baste!) the layers together in the position as they would sit on the body, is make it round (with the fashion fabric on the outside)! You can use a tailors ham or a bowl or whatever will fit ok into the rounded areas, like the hip-spring and bust. I've even seen one woman use a bucket! This should help reduce fabric gathering during sewing. Hope that help with your next one! I'm too chicken to try yet, but have watched sooooo many people make them that I feel well armed when I finally do.😂
