Lenny's Hangar 9 60cc Corsair at AMPS Warbirds and Classics
Here's a few minutes of Lenny rippin' some passes with his beautiful Hangar 9 60cc Corsair at the AMPS Warbirds and Classics event in Phoenix. Lenny put his own touch on this bird by stripping the ultracote off, glassing and painting it with Klass Kote. Powered by Spektrum equipment and a Saito 90R3. Nice job Lenny!

Finally test flew "Old Number 30." Unfortunately we're chasing some gremlins in the left motor, so each of the three flights included an immediate single engine landing. More video's to come. The Ziroli design is fantastic, even during engine outs...on a first flight, lol. Enjoy.

Spectacular flight and videography, Kuddos guys
@@douglasallen7896 many thanks! And thanks for watching!
Looks like he's done this all his life
@@gregales3233 he’s an excellent stick indeed!
Standing O for the flight and especially the rudder work in that cross wind.👋👍 How may have you logged to date?
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately the model was lost shortly after this video was made. We suspect there was some type of radio interference from the brushed motor used in the retracts. To this day we're still not sure. Hopefully he'll build another one of these days.
*Let the Sunshine In...*
Super nice video can actually see the planes so many videos are so far away where's the plane 😊
Thanks for the comment! Its easy to film when the pilot flies so well, lol. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!
How much does it weigh empty of fuel?
Oh, I saw below, 47 lbs.
*Let the Sunshine In...*
Nice job! I saw you testing the engine on it last weekend, but wasn't there to see you fly it this weekend.
wow!!!
agreed!
How much ballast in the nose? I’m about to start one
The owner tells me that he didn't need any additional nose weight with the Zenoah GT-80 and spring start. Says it flies perfect. 👍
@@jerrydellingerjr great, I’m using the same engine
I think it was the Sopwith Camel's engine constantly running in the background that the camera's mic kept picking up. It ruined the sound of the F15 and F86 flybys and landings! The camera man should have set the audio to a shotgun-mic mode so it wouldn't have allowed the background noise from engines that weren't being filmed to mess up the sound of the planes that they were shooting.
Great video Jerry! Hope you had a nice Holiday
Hey thank you Terry! Great to hear from you buddy! All is well here. Have a safe rest of your year!
Suuweet, Ace camera work bye the way.
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
HEY! That plane looks familiar! LOL But I got it on a longer flight! lol😉
Ha! Yes you did!
I'm goana have to try making it there for one of these!
I know its a long way from El Paso, but it would be great to have you!
@@jerrydellingerjr Hey I'm not on Facebook, is there anywhere I can see your upcoming events?
@@SgtJamesRay You can check the following link for an updated schedule. Unfortunately its not always current. I would just check back as often as you could. www.casagrandercflyers.com/areaclubevents.html
@@jerrydellingerjr Thanks!
awesome!
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
You need to fly it scale not like a jet at full throttle. The only scale part of the flight was the landing
Super Maschine Balance Point OK?
yep, the airplane balanced correctly per the plans.
Great video! Thank you for sharing!
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
How far back did you make the cut in the trailing edge of the bottom portion of the wing for the flap modification?
I had to go back and measure, but it came out to just about 1.25". That was a result of removing the stock rear spar in front of the flaps as seen in the video plus cutting back a little more. Also, as seen at 2:39 I used a piece of 1/16" ply to cap the rear of the wing in place of the stock balsa piece for strength. Hope that helps.
What are the flap hinges you used for flap mod?
These hinges were purchased from Dreamworks at the following link... dreamworksrc.com/product/heavy-duty-arm-flap-hinge-904-5pcs/
Got it thanks
@@nallalib397 You bet!
How did you make the wheel covers
Hi, the gear doors were created by laying fiberglass onto the the wing sheeting before the the sheeting was cut to accommodate the landing gear. This allowed for the exact shape. I used a combination of 6oz fiberglass cloth and 1/2oz cloth to create the doors. Thanks for watching!
Cool you’ve made awesome modifications to your plane. I’m fairly new to the hobby and ask a lot of questions lol. I’m currently building a top flite giant scale Corsair kit and I absolutely was blown away by your flap modifications. I would like to attempt to make the same mod but I don’t know what the hinges you used are called.
@@nallalib397 Thank you for the kind words. It was a labor of love but I'm happy with the way it turned out. I think you'll enjoy the TF kit. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you have along the way!
You can tell this fellow has been flying this bird for a while. And excellent work from the camera operator!
Yes sir, Mark is a fantastic pilot and modeler! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!
What a way to drop into show center, saw this young man fly in Sacramento today, absolutely unbelievable
Couldn't agree more!
Beautiful D7, Udet would be pleased.
Well done. All that's missing is ridiculous music and Chatterbox narration.
Ha! Thanks. I’ll be sure to add that to the next video, lol.
That's a lot of airplanes. Great video!
lol, right?! Thanks buddy!
This pilot really knows how to fly a DR1! Expert.
Agreed! Thanks for watching Mark!
Perfect!
You're too kind, but thank you!! And thanks for watching!
Also what canopy are you using ? P47? What are the measurements?
Correct! It is a canopy from the Top Flite GS P-47 ARF. The dimensions are: 13.5”L, 4”H, 5”W.
Thanks for the info and advice. Will let you know how it turns out. I know I'll have more questions . Thanks again. Go R4360 !!!!
@@lookylou6333 You bet!! Any time!
I also have this plane uncovered and want emulate yours. My stabilizer is already assembled. I've done the turtle deck portion. Is there any way to heighten mine like yours? Will I have to cut it out?
Hmm...if the entire back end is assembled and glued with both the vertical and horizontal stabs, it might be difficult to modify, but not impossible. You could leave the vertical stab as is, but modify your rudder (cut and build the sub rudder) to give the illusion of a heightened stab. If your stabs are built but not glued, you could add material to your existing vertical stab. Hopefully that makes sense. If you need more pictures or help, please reach out. Thanks for watching too, btw.
Great job of flying and building. Pleasure to watch.
Thanks for watching!
Please tell me the weight. Nice plane
Soo Ryong Jung hello and thanks for watching! I am told by the owner that the weight is 28 pounds.
@@jerrydellingerjr thank you very much.
Well done bro!
Keith Trammel many thanks!!!
Amazing sound. Power details please.
Hello Raul. This model is powered by a Saito 84cc 3 cylinder radial. Thanks for watching!
Awesome!!
Lenny Roberts thanks buddy!
Fantastic job bro !!! Excellent flight. Makes my little Hangar 9 Corsair look like a toy plane.
Charles Campa thanks so much buddy! Great to hear from you!
Wow!
What a cool air field, I could be there from sunrise to sunset and sleep on a tent... ha ha! living the life!
I agree!! We're very lucky out here in Tucson!! Thanks for watching!!
That's superb. And it's so nice to see and hear someone who's not afraid to use his throttle... I've never understood why peeps will spend ages producing a great-looking scale aircraft and then fly it at a very non-scale 700 mph. Beautiful display. Nice weather, too! :-)
Lol, couldn’t agree more. There’s a lot of guys out there that think the throttle is a switch. Thanks for watching!
I to have a built kit a friend sold me, it's a f4u-1 i think, but i managed to cut down the razor back section and add the rear deck. The rear portion though is longer from the horizontal edge to the rear of the canopy. Guess I cant do much about that. Lol. Where was your cowl purchased? I hope to glass mine and immulate the navy version that's in the museum. Keep the build coming.
I purchased a cowl from Fiberglass Specialties. It was one of their radial cowls measuring 9-7/8"x 8-3/8". It fit the fuselage perfect. The Navy version is an amazing piece at the Boeing Museum! A true F2G. Good luck on your build and let me know if you have questions.
Beautiful job.
lookylou Thank you very much! And thanks for watching the progress. More to come.
What wingspan?
93 - 3/4". Thanks for watching!
Great video, thanks for sharing 👍👍
You bet!! Thanks for watching!
Simply put, OUTSTANDING!!!! How much does it weigh and what engine did you use?
Thanks for watching! I believe Dave, the owner and pilot, has a 3W100 in it. Weight unknown but it looks like its light!
Even as a fellow modeler, there were times I thought it was a full scale. Thanks for posting.
Agreed. That whole family does a fantastic job with scale flying and modeling. Thanks for watching!
That looks like a Vogelsang Aeroscale belt reduction drive not a Mick Reeves. Beautiful model and nicely flown.
Just checked with the pilot/builder, yes you are correct! Thanks for watching.
thanks for sharing. great flight.. I have the same plane. What is your total weight. I come in at 47 lbs... a bit heavier than what I would of liked. yours looks like it is flying much lighter.
You're very welcome Noah, and thank you for watching! I spoke with Alex who built and flew this airplane and he said he actually didn't weigh it, lol. He does build light and didn't need any weight in the nose to balance it. He attributes that to the reduction gear drive unit that was installed on the G-62.
Nice!!! Would not think a 120 would fly that big jet. Here's to good throttle management and scale flying
EDF Hobbies Agreed! Thanks for watching!
@@jerrydellingerjr it's very scale flying!! I'm starting to think overpowering these models make them look less scale. I'm for realistic maneuvers for scale planes in flight
EDF Hobbies Doug is a great pilot and does an excellent job keeping his flying scale. Good throttle management goes a long way!
Good stuff!
Thank you John! Glad you liked it.
