@@NenadPeter Sir one request. Can you make resume building video especially for electrical engineering students.
@bao-wangko7569 good idea. Thank you for the suggestion. I do have a “Resume Tips” video : ( Electrical Engineering Resume Tips-Expert Advice From a Hiring Manager ua-cam.com/video/otUGEQnulcg/v-deo.html) But I will also make a similar video such as this one. Cheers
Thank you so much
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching.
Everything in this video is 100% correct. And it applies to more than just Engineers
Thank you for the comment and for watching. Are you in engineering or another field?
Truly believe what you are saying.
Thank you for watching and for your comment.
I guess it depends on your professional goals, as an HR I like to work remotely but I also like to go to the office, but going to the office should not be a requirement to be promoted
Absolutely. It depends on your role and your goals. Of course this video is my opinion and perceptions of what I’ve seen. Thank you for watching and for your comment, much appreciated! Question for you about HR: wouldn’t an in person/ hybrid schedule be most beneficial to your employees as that would show that you care/are there for them? Thanks
@@NenadPeter I live in Europe and I'm an HR in the retail sector, as you know our european work culture is quite different. With that being said, I think it totally depends on the sector you're working at: if the job can be totally done on a laptop (IT, Marketing, UX/UI/Finance, etc), there's no justification or need to have mandatory in person or hybrid system to have people at the office to care for them: nowadays we have all the tech needed to care for the employees and to be there for them whenever they need. There are sectors, such as mine, where people work in stores full time, therefore I think HR should be also at the office, even though we are on a hybrid system (3 days at the office and 2 at home). People on my sector don't work at the computer, so it wouldn't be optimal to care for them remotely and it wouldn't be fair, in my opinion, to do it. I hope I answered your question.
You’re right that the work culture in Europe and anywhere outside the US is very different. Thank you for expounding.
Personally, I disagree with most of the points mentioned in this video except for the one mentioned at 3:29. I've worked both in the office and remote and can confidently say that I'll never go back to the office. Lots of the points in the video just sound like what management people love to say to the teams they manage ("camaraderie", "building relationships", "face-to-face interactions", "synergy", etc) whereas a lot of ICs just want to do their job, get paid, and go home. My job is my job, my co-workers are my co-workers, and a job is just a financial transaction between employee and employer. They are not my friends so don't expect me to die for my teammates or my job. If a job is expecting to suck the entire soul out of me, then I'll gladly just quit cause it's truly not worth it. Also if you're working remotely and there are some co-workers you think would make good friends, then you would go out of your way to become friends with them. Otherwise, just separate work and your personal life which is what you should be doing whether in the office or working remote. Also promotions and raises aren't always tied to your performance cause there is always some company politics involved and needing to split the money pot equally across multiple teams/employees. Whether you work in the office or remote, you have to work on impactful things while performing and communicating well to get noticed. If your company is overlooking you because you are remote or any other reason, then consider looking for another job that will pay you more and also seems like a good place. Obviously it depends on the person and their role but for me personally, I'm 100x more productive working remotely, make way more money, have way more free time, my work gets praised, get recognized by others, have gotten great raises/bonuses, etc. Also if you've proved to deliver work at a amazing level while being a great teammate and communicator, then people will respect your work/time which will allow you to pace yourself so yes you can afford to sometimes take a break/do nothing while still getting paid well.
@liam1902 thank you for this detailed comment and for watching! It is definitely case by case and you’re totally right that company politics do play a role in all of this. I’m not saying that you befriend all your coworkers and see them outside the office. But, in my experience, it’s definitely a more pleasant work day if you enjoy the company of the people you’re working with. If you don’t mind me asking, what industry are you in and are you located in the US? Again, thanks for sharing your experiences.
@@NenadPeter No problem! And apologies if my opinion came out sounding bleak lol. I work remotely as a Senior Software Engineer in the US and my team primarily works on different applications that are used by employees, agents, and customers.
No worries! Thanks for sharing.
What a great deal of the remote work discourse leaves out is that fully remote work allows you to work from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. This means that you can earn in dollars while spending in a weaker currency like Mexican pesos.
Absolutely! I’ve taken advantage of that numerous times. Have you tried it and where has been your go to spot!? Thanks for watching and for commenting!
As a developer I totally agree. Never felt so stressed as I did working fully remote
Thanks for watching and for the comment, much appreciated! Sounds like you’re on a different schedule now. It’s interesting to see different views on this.
@@NenadPeter hybrid now and it suits me much better
Same here, I think it’s the best of both worlds
While this may be true at some companies it is far from the rule. Even when I was in person I found myself essentially screen sharing anyway. I've worked at a few companies in the power industry and have found that typically working in person doesn't make a difference - it's just some companies force you to. It can be nice to network with your coworkers in person occasionally, but being remote, everyone is still just a teams call away. If you're overlooked for a promotion (which happens whether office or not) it's easy to job hop and you may even get a counter offer with that promotion you were looking for. I think the greatest asset you have as an employee in the industry's current state is the threat of leaving, just make sure you have the knowledge and skillset to back it up.
@5bobber you’re right that there is a huge demand in power. Job hopping is an option but you must be careful. When I see those resumes hop up with too many transitions, I pass on them. Thank you for watching and for commenting , much appreciated!
Ty for the info! Your insights on the challenges of remote work in the power industry are really enlightening. I’m currently trying to break into the power industry. I have a degree in Electrical Engineering and a year of experience in instrumentation and controls, but finding a way in has been tough. I'm thinking about starting as an electrician and working my way up. Do you have any specific advice on how to transition effectively into a power distribution engineering role from my current position? Thanks for sharing your experience!
Look for EPC (engineering, construction, procurement) companies (i.e. Kiewit and Burns & McDonnell). They can be a bit challenging to get into without prior experience, but once your in you'll have job opportunities for the rest of your life. Power is an industry that keeps growing, so don't be afraid to job hop every couple years as it's honestly probably the best way to learn new things and get promotions.
@5bobber shared some great advice for you. It also depends on location and if you’re willing to relocate. Utilities and consulting companies like the ones mentioned have a big need for EE’s for all sorts of roles. If you have a good background in controls then substation protection & controls (P&C) engineering may be a good route for you. Is there any other types of content that you’d love to see in regard to EE and the power industry?
Great video! I’m a fully remote software engineer so it may be different for me because software engineering is inherently more of a solitary thing than other disciplines, but I’ve done both and don’t see my self ever going back to the office. I find the finances are so much better, I can collect the “California” salaries while living in the rural Midwest, don’t pay for gas and still drive my beater car from 15 years ago. The only point is really disagree with is the social life aspect, I’ve always tried to keep work relationships and friendships separate and find that I still hangout with friends a few times a week. Keep up the great content!
Thanks for watching and for the comment Joe! Good point about software engineers and California money haha
Only when I went to the comments section did I realize that this is not a 100k+ sub channel its just 42 omg. Good video
Thanks for the kind words! I need to be more consistent lol. Is there any other type of content that you’d want to see?
@@NenadPeter 🤷 I just watch random things that UA-cam throws at me
I know the feeling! Thanks for watching
Thank you for making this video! No one else is talking about these remote work challenges for engineers, and I totally agree with your points. Love seeing such high-quality content from a smaller creator. Keep it up!
Much appreciated! Thank you for watching and for the kind words.
Hi, I don't know who to turn to to seek advice because the ones I asked didn't know how to address my issue. I would appreciate 10 minutes from your life and it can save my career maybe and life. I graduated in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2018. Unfortunately due to many family issues I couldn't pursue my career in EE related fields. I did many small gigs in non technical fields like IT and Marketing to pay my bills and take care of my mom and my sis. One is sick with diabetes and my sister is schezophrenic. I'm currently working in a small job in marketing just to live through the day.I'm really bouncing from here and there man , I don't have a stable job and the Bachelors I have in EE it's basically not working in EE jobs as I don't have experience. It's been a while I graduated and the works I did is not relevant to the job. Do you have any suggestions for me how can I get to EE track. What can I do to add something as a resume. Or what can I improve that may help me land a job. I really needed to ask an Engineer or someone in the industry and seek their advice as only they can get me. I would appreciate any suggestions. I know you must be a busy person but I will be so grateful if you give me any suggestions. Thanks in Advance 🙏 You are doing a great job Ali. Allah bless you.
Hello my friend. Thank you for the kind words. You need to get some experience in the EE space. If you’re having a hard time networking, I would recommend building a project yourself. That’s a good thing to put on your resume. Could be something like a Tesla coil, an e-bike, PV system, etc. Anything really just to show that you are focusing back on engineering. Collaborate with someone if you need to. A great idea for you would be attending a few career fairs if there are any around. You may need to ask your college about these. Finally, reach out to old classmates and see if anyone is hiring. If you get an opportunity to interview, research the company and the job hard. Do your homework on them. Also, I posted a video about resumes, may give you some ideas on how to clean yours up. Hope this helps!
Thanks
Hope it helps!
Really nice video! i was wondering if i could help you edit your videos and make them more engaging also it will save your lot of time which you can focus on creating more content!!.

Sir could you suggest me how to get a job as fresher beginner after 4 yrs of gap due to family reasons, i am a hvac design engineer in Aec Hvac construction industry completed my studies then internship of 6 months also experience in 2019 but i haven't joined any company bcoz my mother was working alone here in my hometown so i helped her with domestic works etc but now i am free after this month to hunt for a job so i am anxious about how should i plan or approach the upcoming challenges now to get hired effectively without wasting time or coming across as unprofessional in any way infront of recruiters ? What books would be useful to read for around this topic to know more about getting selected faster in company ??
Hello, thank you for your comment. Have you taken any classes in your interim? Taking care of family is an important thing to do which shows good character and loyalty. I would be honest on your resume and note that reason for your gap. You can write something like “ full time care taker for family” and also what you learned from that. In the meantime, read up on new trends in your industry and get involved in any professional societies so that you get the vernacular back, etc. Go to careers fairs also. I’m actually editing a video on that topic right now. As for any books, the one I recommended there “convince them in 90 seconds” (amzn.to/3EyGswh) is a great starting point. It’s not just an “interview better” book, it’s more on being better in any business conversation. It’s helped me many times. Remember, you need to just get out there and give yourself as many opportunities as possible. Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t happen as quickly as you think. I hope this helps and best of luck!
@@NenadPeter It means a lot 😊 Thanks a Ton !! Could you also tell i always had a question in mind people used to say my english is good but you need to work on it but now after 2 months i would be working in some company office related to my field of construction hvac design & site engineering, so just out of curiosity i want to ask what level of impact would my english speaking or writing skills have on my growth in the work & earning promotions ? Also does being a fluent/perfect speaker increase our value drastically ? In terms of payscale & rising up the ladder.. could you share some examples of people who have benefited..
I do believe that communication is very important when looking to advance. Id say that it’s more important if going down the managerial route then say becoming a subject matter expert. The good news is that you can always learn and improve! My story is a good example. I learned English at age 6, much easier to do of course, and I lost the accent. My parents however still retain theirs but each have very successful careers in engineering. In some ways, it’s a strength to them. Much of it is about your perspective. If you perceive it to be a major weakness, then it is.
@@NenadPeter Insightful tips ! Yes i do want to become an expert after some years of experience & will be looking for starting my own solopreneurs or entrepreneurial journey with construction air conditioning projects business in hvac or plumbing system with help of Bim software's like revit etc my primary focus is mostly on making a lot of money .. if you could suggest any books that would help me for all these then it will wonderful for me to pursue the path with some clarity.. as i don't want to get stuck in that pattern of low paid employee with long working hours ..
I fully understand wanting to go down your own path. I ended up doing just that for a few years. The best book I’ve read on entrepreneurship is “The E Myth” by Michael Gerber (amzn.to/44Lf2ya). There are many others but that’s a great starting point.
I love the "La Vie en rose"ambiance in the background! Great start to the series man! Stoked to follow along! Going to try this out for myself in my business!
Haha! that was totally on by accident in the background lol. Glad to hear it man!
