How to Use DRDRO for Gear Hobbing and Cutting feat. Luke
In this episode we're hosting our start Luke on a gear cutting and gear hobbing Journey.
Luke makes everything so simple when it comes to gear cutting and he did a great job setting up DRDRO for the task.
We're going to see two different methods that can be used for plain involute gear cutting. The final result is the same so pick the one you prefer for your application and for your machine, DRDRO will make it easy and simple to perform the task!

Adding DR.DRO and Servo Motor to Grinder Work Head! Boost Your Tool Cutter Grinder! (Part 2)
Переглядів 1,3 тис.Місяць тому
Second episode with our tool cutter grinder equipped with DRDRO! In this episode we're looking at how to find out the helix angle for the flutes and how to configure the DRO to follow it to perfection. We'll perform a quick regrinding of a worn out end mill, just to show the capabilities and performance of DRDRO, then we'll run a quick test on the Bridgeport Mill to see the results of our sharp...

Finally getting ready to use my DRO on the Cincinnati No.2 Tool Cutter Grinder! In this episode I'm going over the installation and configuration of DR.DRO for grinding applications. At the end of the episode we will have a good understanding of how DR.DRO works and we will be able to perform direct indexing and axis follower operations! I've got plenty of stock if you're interested :) Support ...
Unknown Steady Rest adaptations for the LeBlond lathe
Переглядів 6702 місяці тому
In this episode I'll be working on the adaptation of an unknown steady rest that I recently acquired through an auction. Steady rests for LeBlond Regals are really hard to come by and when you find one the price is astronomical! When I saw this cheap small steady rest for sale for a very good price I didn't think twice and went ahead with the purchase. If anybody knows what machine this steady ...
Cincinnati #2 Tool Cutter & Grinder - End mill sharpening
Переглядів 6772 місяці тому
In this episode I'm going to attempt regrinding the front edges of a couple of end mills that I got pretty much for free. I am following some general guidelines that i found across the Cincinnati documentation and some other books that I have on the subject. I wasn't really sure about the gashing and the wheels but overall the profiles look good and the wheels do cut nicely on this cobalt/hss e...
Replacing the spindle arbor and bearings assembly on a Bridgeport mill
Переглядів 8572 місяці тому
In this episode we're covering the steps to follow in order to replace the spindle arbor and bearings assembly on a Bridgeport Milling Machine. I wanted to address the some noise coming from the head when the high gear is engaged, and knowing that my old spindle arbor has a slight bend in it (by the spline) I thought it might help to get a brand new assembly to test the machine with. Take a loo...

    Amazing DRO Stefano. When hobing does the spindle speed/RPM need to be synced with the dividing head? If so how is it achieved?

    • @stefanobertelli2650
      @stefanobertelli2650 Місяць тому

      Hi Petern! When hobbing we use the sync mode of DRDRO, there is an encoder mounted on the machine spindle that tracks the position, with it we perform synchronized motion of the dividing head with the specified ratio. This is also the mode we use when using the DRO in ELS mode, or when performing spiral grinding/machining. Thanks for your kind interest in this project!

      @@stefanobertelli2650 that’s awesome. Can it also be used to shape gears close to a shoulder also known as gear skiving? Andy’s Machines adapted an old mini mill head to do that but he is using assembly for the code. :(

      @@stefanobertelli2650 How do you dial in your end mill flute spiral? My mates mechanical Heller has an infinitely adjustable angle (conical friction drive) so you put a clock on a flute and just dial the angle till you get no movement on the clock. You could do the same with an jog encoder input to set the ratio.

    • @stefanobertelli2650
      @stefanobertelli2650 2 місяці тому

      @RotarySMP part2 of the video will show exactly that, the naive approach i took for this quick demo was just trial and error with a dial test indicator. The monoset manual suggests a clever way of doing the helix pickup that i will show in the upcoming videos as well.

    To me, it sounds like the dogs on the spindle hub are worn out. Where did you get the new spindle from? They are not interchangeable with the import spindles which are made for Bridgeport clones.

    • @stefanobertelli2650
      @stefanobertelli2650 2 місяці тому

      @@stefanobertelli2650 Note that there are two parts that mesh with drive dogs. The Spindle Pulley Hub, and the Splined gear hub. These parts are very expensive. I have seen people re-flle them to fit tight, but I don't know if that is a good repair or not. When new, the tapered dogs do not mesh all the way to allow for wear. Again, note that the import parts will not fit the Bridgeport. You can check for wear by looking through the air vent at the top of the speed dial. Note the mesh and rock the spindle back and forth. Also, if there is less or no noise when in Back Gear (low speed) since they come out of mesh. Regards
