The Mysterious Dot in Taiji Push Hands - Master Chen Zhonghua Practical Method
This Chinese video was taken after a private evening of Push Hands training between students at the Daqingshan Chen Zhonghua Taiji Academy in China. Master Chen Zhonghua demonstrated many of the finer points of Push Hands that he observed the students were missing, including:
1. Top / bottom separation. Only use the top to engage, switch the action to the bottom.
2. Sequential switching. From hand, elbow, shoulder, kua, knee, to foot. Each incremental stretch increases the size.
3. Identify the non moving Dot on your opponent. Lock onto the Dot, and use different body parts to rotate on the Dot.
4. To Follow. Identify your opponent's line, and follow it.
5. To Add One. Sequential addition of body parts into an action.

Very practical for close combat. Great demo.
Good video
Excellent! Subscribed. Greetings from Poland.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing. There is a gem of information given by Master Chen. Looking forward to more videos from you.
Very interesting. I understand the benefits and power transmission but... it seems to be out of tai qi principles of relax and flow 🤔, even in a chen context. As a chen style practitioner I would love to know how this links to my practice. Would be like in hsing yi, flowing hip transitions but stiff when beating or doing fajin? Thanks a lot 🙏
This video will help provide more context. Song (relaxing) in Practical Method Taijiquan ua-cam.com/video/wOwi1IVpY5g/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Thanks, a lot, isn´t it about static compensation chain - hitting, receiving ther reactiv force nad returning it back to the opponent´s body: just at the equivalent force using isometric or plyometric principles? Paul,69
It’s about separation of Yin and Yang. Of movement, and no movement.
Thank you Master Chen. Master Chen can be considered as generous in sharing his internal skill which most Masters would only show to their close door students.🙏
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
❤
I think Master Chen feels the balance point/position of his opponent and knows how to use his muscles and pelvic to produce a reaction force (Qigong) to shift his opponent's balance or center of gravity to make his opponent unbalanced. To master this technique, it requires years of learning and practice. Also, it requires the flexibility of each practitioner. This art is the harmony of mind and body.
0:09 ultimate bullshido weapon
He's very real. An extremely good fighter, as many sport martial artists and unarmed security people will testify. The problem is that most teachers teach a watered down version of this, over a long time, leaving students feeding off crumbs.
"It's how you connect"... I only managed to get this through repetition, repetition, repetition (still only getting it inconsistently). Listen and then go and practice. When I started learning Practical Method, I didn't do enough, so after many years I still didn't get it.
In order to connect, there must be at least two pieces. Firstly this requires separation. Secondly to establish a new relationship between the two. Both of these require time and repetition!
Looking forward to the Sydney workshop in December! Lots more to learn. Thank you for always sharing the Practical Method with us all. 🙏
Thanks for watching, and see you soon!
The basic art of using leverage. That's why he wants you to push into him. Pushing a person with that single arm drag he did is easy to push into them and force them to use their back leg to support themself. Leaving the front leg to be easily lifted as it bears no weight.
❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
What to practice to have good hand of it
Yilu (ua-cam.com/video/AVPN4HCLfKs/v-deo.html) and Basic Foundations (practicalmethod.com/2014/03/basic-foundations-2013-online-video-purchase/) are required to transform the body in order to use what’s below.
❤
All this tine guy does is talk and have someone touch his arm!! he does nothing!!
I wanna see bro do mma fighting
see the confusion on her face at the end?> HAHA says it all...
Now let the student demonstrate on the teacher .. that’s how to see if he got it , understood it .
Excellent, when taking a class one has to become a good listener or your own throughs get in the way!
Indeed! To listen is to use your ears to hear and remember. Importantly, at this stage, do not judge what you hear. This is one of the six methods of learning Taiji. practicalmethod.com/2013/02/6-stages-of-learning-tai-chi/
Simply amazing! Thank you Master Chen.🙏
Thanks for watching!
Great video. I think he is still confused though. Keep going, you’ll get it. 💪🏼👊🏼🙏🏼🙂
Thanks! 👍
This is powerful, but hard to understand. Is there any other explanation?
Take a set of five newton balls. The two on each end are moving, the three in the middle are not moving. Fixing the three in the middle permits the transmission of power.
