    Totally agree with your take on CGI. I think it has its place, but it is way overused today, and dialog and story have taken a back seat. I really think sci-fi movies need a person whose only role is to reign in CGI overuse.

    most sci-fi, before this film, was relegated to kid serials and low-budget b-movies. 2 films in the early 50s, "the day the earth stood still" (1951) and "the war of the worlds" (1953) had larger budgets and were more geared toward adult audiences. the rest of the 50s and 60s sci-fi reverted back to low-budget kid movies. "2001" helped sci-fi grow up and appeal to wider, more mature audiences. its a "thinking person's" film. way back in 1936, though, there was a very good, but overlooked, big budget sci-fi film from britain called "things to come." don't be afraid to venture outside your comfort zone and watch older films. some of the best films ever made are 50, 75, 100 years old. don't deny yourself the pleasure of experiencing these classic works of art. thanks for the video smiley.

      the moral of "2001's" story is - beware of floating bubble fetuses in space.

    Glad to see you again. Always enjoy your reactions and analysis to The Expanse. I like your perspective on Bobbie. She needs a team. I think you are looking through your trained and experienced eyes with regards to the people's reactions in the encampment. They are settlers with no real training on the protocols for natural disasters. Murtry is starting to frustrate you? Starting? Keep in mind he has a mission. His only concern is fulfilling that mission. Whatever it takes. As always, looking forward to the next episode. Cute earrings, by the way.

    You haven't missed anything on the "what", "why" and "how" of the protomolecule. It's a pretty slow reveal. Unless I'm mistaken you've picked up on everything so far. Coming from the UK we've never had earthquake stuff told to us, I guess Belters would never have heard of it either. Don't know much about Montana though, maybe Holden should have known.

    the location of the camp on Ilus is at the very opposite side of the planet, the quake and the shockwave is at it's most diminished. if the reaction was "that's it?", just imagine how bad it was closer to the explosion! getting rules to a unseen force that can effectively shut off Fusion in a localized area of a planet would be great, but maybe too much to ask for.

    Leelee's drink: it could be a long gin and tonic, but if you look at this scene and the others we've had in this bar, there is a fun effect with the beers. The blue uplighting gives the illusion that the liquid appear clear when on the bar, but pale straw yellow when lifted up to drink.

    Good to see you back, it's been too long since I watched the series but there is a point where you might want to take note of the end credits. Not the text scroll, the other stuff. The Anti-proto-molecule view is interesting... Would it be green though? The "proto-molecule" is at this point sci-fi magic. The writers definitely have a "why" for the moon melting, but team blue-goo is so advanced it may as well be magic. TBH I think this is my fav season of the 6, it explores so many ideas around coming into contact with an alien planet.

    One of the most intelligent reactions from a younger generation to this film that I’ve seen in a long time. I watched this film at the cinema aged five and it blew me away. London and the U.K. in the mid 60s to 70s was a very interesting place style-wise. Experimenting with minimalist furniture design. You could see this reflected in the set dressing of the conference room on Clavius. We had very similar chairs at home. Metal tubing, leather and fabric.

    23:16 Sojourner was the Earther colony ship that went missing and all of its dead crew were flung unceremoniously through space toward the ring. Marco Inaros later admitted to Drummer and Ashford that he attacked it, but he claimed that he sold it for scrap after killing the crew. The drive signature match on this "Sinon" ship suggests he was lying about that and that the Sinon is actually the Sojourner, repurposed.

    Welcome back🎉 I like what you mean about Avarsarellla being needed in times of pease. She keeps making snap decisions we never hear about what the rest of the UN think but I also think she's in a rough spot. Regarding using rings I think she's right. Earth only survived the proto molecule because the plot demanded it and I don't think you can plan for a hero archetype to save the day... Unless you know your in a fourth wall breaking story. She is doing that annoying not answering the question.

    • @kirkdarling4120
      @kirkdarling4120 10 днів тому

      At the same time, simply closing off the Ring Gates won't work long term, either. People want and need that territory. What she ought to be doing is emphasizing a vigorous plan to explore and study the Ring planets in a rational manner...not stonewalling the issue.

    • @no_no_just_no
      @no_no_just_no 9 днів тому

      @@kirkdarling4120 true. and in all fairness that's happening (not at all well). I doubt shes stone walling the issue. but slow and steady isn't enough for desperate people and those who will take advantage of those politics.

    • @MattNolanCustom
      @MattNolanCustom 9 днів тому

      @@kirkdarling4120 pretty sure there is a plan to explore and check that things are safe, though it is not front and centre in what we see. There is another reason that Avasarala wants to put a throttle on emigration through the Ring Gates besides existential fears for humanity due to unknown alien events, but I think it is more a books than a TV series thing and would also be a potential spoiler to reveal. So I'll have to leave you guessing.

    AI computers first developed in 61 by IBM. The first song it sung, after learning text, and being able to speak, it sung the Daisy song. They didn't teach it this song,!😮😮 The book was written simultaneously with complete control by Kubrick. Kubrick considered life on other planets but not as alien. There was a full time MIT computer professor on set, and he was pretty warped mentally over ai, and the basic questions of, what is a Universe and what is real!! Throughout this movie , u see representations of the monolith, everywhere. U also hear very high pitched noises, music, and with computer or light graphics. Kubrick once said, no matter in the future how deep or dark we go into space, we will provide our own light. What am I saying? The monolith is a representation of us, we have been able to figure out how to move through or manipulate time (think interstellar). And the high pitch music or sounds, the computer generated light geometry, the sometimes horizontal line up with lighting and the monolith. It's all us, the monolith and like shapes are TV's or phones, the sometimes synch of the light graphics, hi pitched sound or picture, is like pre,80s end of broadcast signal, but in reverse. In the end, Dave is being observed like a zoo animal, in slightly wrong decorated rooms. This cannot be a mistake. When he reaches across the table. .us, the aliens...send in the sound, because he's about to break the fourth wall. The ONLY time u get a full view of the monolith, is in the room. Once he's older, he's in a large black suit, ape. When he's about to die, he's in full white, and achieved full conscious. At that point he's fully aware, knows his whole life he's been observed, so he reaches for the Stargate. Hal sabotage the mission because he was given two different orders, and didn't know how to lie. He went insane, and decided to kill the crew, to end his psychosis and complete the mission. Anyway, that's how I see it! And u have to watch the sequel, 2010! It gives u solid explanations. This is one of Kubrick movies which tells u, he's a top 10 all time director! With clockwork orange, paths of glory, Dr strangelove, the killing, full metal jacket and others! U need gravity in space or ur bone and muscle mass would rapidly deteriorate! To me , this plus Alien, Bladerunner (both by Ridley Scott as was the Martian) and The Thing, are the 4 most important sci-fi movies made in the past 60 years. All were no CGI, fantastic sets and camera work, plus great story!

    It's a classic. Best to read the novel before the movie though. It explains the ending better than the movie. Trying not to introduce spoilers. The monolith in the ape scene was educating the Apes. That's all will say lol

    There's a time and a place for everything. Real life is important so do what you need to do. Schedules are overrated. Following a schedule is what happens while life goes by. Make sure you don't miss out on your life. Doing audiobooks is a great idea! Far too many people don't read, and this will help people hear the stories that they should be listening to. There's so much wisdom from the past it's a shame to just ignore it all. Your own stories plus important works of literature is a wonderful service. Personally, I'd like to hear some Dickens. The Lord of the Rings might have more popular appeal however, especially from a New Zealander.

      I am drawn to track-n-field, gymnastics and swimming as they feel most 'Olympicy' (made up word, don't care🙂)...but I stress out on the gymnastics, terrified I will see someone get hurt, especially when they do that anxiety inducing balance beam and flips. Minor coronaries galore, I should learn to breath better. Often, I just look for the great stories to emerge, whether for an individual or smaller country earning their first medal in a sport, etc.

    Hey Wren! Congrats on the new job! Praise the Lord! I hope it’s a good fit for you. My 2 cents: I wouldn’t stress or feel pressure about Patreon - people don’t expect very much - they just want to encourage you to keep making content. You don’t have to change your content - they just want more of the same. It’s a way for people to show their support for you - not to pressure you. I think the last thing people would want to do is cause you stress or make you feel pressure. Also, I wouldn’t feel like you’re piggy-backing on movies when you make reaction videos. If people were interested in watching the movie - they would. The truth is, people enjoy watching YOU react to the movie. They enjoy sharing your company and hearing your thoughts. So if people watch your reactions - it’s not because of the movies - it’s because of you. We like you and your personality. There are loads of reactors out there - and they even react to my favourite movies, but if I don’t like the reactor then I don’t watch their videos. About your reading videos - I would definitely watch those - but maybe do you think you should have a different UA-cam channel for that? I know some reactors have multiple channels - for example a tv reaction channel, a movie reaction channel, a computer game reaction channel, etc. I think it helps the algorithm get your videos seen more. Looking forward to watching your new Troy videos 😃👍🏻
