1920s ragtime pianist. I enjoy a large variety of styles from the time ranging from 1900s ragtime to 1920s jazz and stride piano to novelty and other such styles. Jelly Roll Morton has always been my favourite musician and my biggest influence though at the moment I'm enjoying a lot of Zez Confreys pieces and especially Billy Mayerl.

I always seem to get nervous recording Mayerls music but I do love it a lot and want to get some recordings out so this isn’t the best I can perform this piece but it doesn’t sound too bad

Another great Confrey piece! Great playing as always Dylan!!
Great playing on this piece of music also! I think I like this one best! Which one of Adam’s compositions do you like to play best?
@@ByronCox-bt6jv I enjoyed “A Novice Novelty” best as it was the easiest to improvise around. I do like the trio of Transatlantic Rag and Finger Winks is great too
Great job!! You and Adam need to do dueling pianos if you both could ever get together! You could definitely play in the Durango Festival!
@@ByronCox-bt6jv I’m hoping to go. If Piotr is there I’ll almost certainly go. If not I may try Sutter Creek. We’ll have to see
@ I hope you get to go as they would be a great opportunity for you!!
I have a piano roll of this one, great tune, though I doubt the new generations will appreciate it for what it is xD
@@PiotrBarcz I just like the music. Funny words too it but not what I love the piece for
I always enjoy your playing!! You have really introduced me to a lot of new musical pieces!! Keep posting! I'm looking forward to Adam's Livestream on UA-cam tomorrow!!
@@ByronCox-bt6jv I found this piece through Billy Mayerl funnily enough. He played with the Savoy Havana band that recorded this piece and the melody is great sp I came looking for a score and found this. I’ve really been enjoying this one. Has some funny words too, especially for the time
@dylan-kerry Mayerl is great!
As always your playing is wonderful!!
Like piece of music! Great playing as usual!
Such a valuable skill. I could swear I was in Nick's Bar in Pottersville.
impressive
@@j3rboa Thank.
You played this really well
Thank you! It's one of my very favourite pieces. Jelly Roll Morton is my biggest influence. I've spent years listening to his music and I don't think I'll ever enjoy anything just as much
@@dylan-kerry Have you done a video of Grandpa's spells?
@ Yes I have. Rather recently actually. It’s one of Mortons easier pieces and ai enjoy that one a great deal. I should record more of his music
Wow your playing of this Rhapsody is quite impressive!
@@ByronCox-bt6jv I don’t feel it’s really great but it was the fourth time I played it so I’m rather pleased with the way it came out. I can’t help but think of only the bad parts I played instead of the good
@dylan-kerry well in my humble opinion it sounds great! I know professionals strive for perfection!!
Great playing!! I always enjoy listening to your piano post!
@@ByronCox-bt6jv Thanks! This is one of my very favourite pieces
Nice job Thanks!
Wow I see why you like Billy Meryl so much His music flows so well! You see to have mastered this piece of music!
@@ByronCox-bt6jv This is one of the ones I’ve played most to the point I could nearly play it by heart at one point.
@ your talent really shines through on this arrangement!!
A very nice rendition. Piotr and Cameron honestly deserve more recognition!
@@GOL1912 Cameron said he seems to have received this reputation for composing really difficult pieces so people don’t play his music a lot. He does have a lot of easier pieces though
I randomly happened upon this when scrolling, and I must say: I cannot complain!
@@GOL1912 I can.
We got a long time till, but in anticipation of Christmas, you should only do Christmas tunes. Nice performance though!
@@SquidzYT I intend to as I did with Halloween. I’ll need some Christmas rag suggestions asides Reindeer. I do like Billy Mayerls Christmas medley
Great song and great piano playing also! Thanks for posting! By the way what kind of piano do you play! It has a rich sound!
@@ByronCox-bt6jv The piano is a Kawai. I don’t really like the sound or the action from it and hope to get a nicer one in the future
@dylan-kerry what would be your dream piano?
@ I wouldn’t want just one to be honest. If just one I would want a pianola that has light keys and a warmer sound to it. I would also love an out of tune honky tonk like Winifred Atwell plays. I do love her music but it doesn’t sound the same on any other piano
@@dylan-kerry I will check out Atwell! I like listening to all types of piano music! I’m listening to a lot of novelty piano along with some Gospel on Piano!
@ I do love novelty. I should tape together more of Mayerls music so I can record it. I can’t seem to get good recordings of his music though. Do you play any instruments yourself?
I really enjoy this piece of music! By the way I listen to Tuba Skinny and they may be popular but I much prefer to listen to your piano playing! Adam had a great live last night!
Adam was great. I really do enjoy all the novelty piano. Piotr Barcz wanted me to give Bluin’ The Black Keys a try so I’ll be learning that one. Thanks for the compliment too. That really means a lot Also, unless a short is a full piece in itself then I almost certainly uploaded the full piece as a longer video
@ Bluin’ the Black Keys is a wonderful piece of music!
where'd you get the sheet music (musescore?) and how long did it take to finish it
@@speedsfunnyclips9343 I got the score from musescore. I do have a friend who had some scores as Tom notated them though. If you’re asking how long it took to learn the piece I just played it a few times a day over the course of a few weeks.
@@dylan-kerry wow you're very experienced. i don't expect you to answer this question accurately because this is only a broad overview of my skill but i can play pineapple rag (if you've ever heard of it) with some refining and fluency needed left and i've learned it in 13 weeks, about 3 months. my question is could you try to estimate how long it'd take for me to play redneck rag by taking a listen to pineapple rag? of course you don't have to do it but it'd be much appreciated if you'd do so. thanks in advance!! some links to make your life easier: ua-cam.com/video/1E0O13pLhPc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/93F3TWy8Ns8/v-deo.html i suggest watching the one on the top instead of the bottom
@ I’m afraid I have no clue how to work this out. I would say if you put time into practicing it well it shouldn’t take ages. If you really want to learn it you will manage. I’ve been struggling with Tatums Tiger Rag for a year and it’s been constantly getting better. You will certainly have fun with the parts you’ll learn. I would advise joining the discord server in my channel description. It specifically started off dedicated to Toms music and there are plenty of people who know a lot about such styles. Cameron Lee Simpson has some original scores of Toms music so you could ask him for the score for Redneck Rag if he has one.
@@dylan-kerry thanks again for the advice
@ That’s all right. Sorry I couldn’t give you a better estimate but I’m not really familiar with others learning times. Just enjoy playing the piece and you’ll get there at some point. It’s a fun piece
Great playing as always!
Your face looks naked without the mustache xD You also look 5 years younger so that's an advantage!
Nice to see you polish up on it a bit! - Wish I'd seen this earlier but UA-cam's a meanie >:(
A really nice arrangement! You play the song great!
@@ByronCox-bt6jv It’s one of my very favourites. Jelly Roll Morton is my favourite musician and I feel I do a good job of a lot of his stuff

Great playing as always!!
This is one of my favorites of your recent posts! Great playing ‼️
@@ByronCox-bt6jv Thanks! I’ve not played this pieces a lot but I do love a good bit of James Scott. Probably my favourite genuine ragtime composer. If I get the chance I would love to make albums of the complete works of a variety of ragtime composers
@@dylan-kerry you’re definitely talented and should make a album! Do you have a favorite rag to play?
@@ByronCox-bt6jv I don’t play a lot of ragtime now as I tend to enjoy later styles such as novelty more now so when I play rags it’ll just be a bit of a variety but a few of my favourites are Pegasus, American Beauty, Ragtime Nightingale… for Joplin it’s a bit tough to choose and favourites. All of his are just as fun really. I also love Cameron Lee Simpsons music. Evil Genius Rag is probably my favourite overall. I do love that one. I’ll try and make a recording tomorrow. That piece is exceptional. It was originally written by Squidz and the original melodies are great but Came changes are what made the piece so exceptional.
@@dylan-kerry I’ll be anxious to hear you play “The Evil Genius “ rag tomorrow! I’ll check out some of your other favorites!
❤❤❤❤
I like the way it has the funeral march in it. I like the whole song. I have never learned a song by Jelly Roll Morton. What style is he called?
@@Leander-piano Jelly Roll Mortons style was Jazz. He was the most important musician in Jazz history. Another term for his style is “Stomps”. He also recorded a piece called “Oh didn’t he ramble” that was a funeral song played in New Orleans. He recorded that with his band and as a piano vocal performance without the funeral march at the start. He’s my favourite composer by far. Some of his most notable pieces are the “Original Jelly Roll Blues” that was the first ever notated jazz, “King Porter Stomp” a marvellous piano piece that was later one of the most popular swing songs, “Wolverine Blues” originally titled “the Wolverines” it was changed by some publishers and is not a blues. Was also very popular among earlier jazz bands. One of his Blues recordings was the “New Orleans Blues” and that one really gives an idea of how he played the Blues. He also used the term “Joys” sometimes for more cheerful blues pieces
Great playing as always!! I'm anxious to hear what spooky songs Adam will play for us on his live Sunday! I'll be glad when he starts weekly lives! I always enjoy listening to your post!
@@ByronCox-bt6jv Oh did you find me from one of his streams? I’ve a friend who agreed when I stated a lot of Halloween rags didn’t really have a spooky feel to them and where just your average rag with a Halloween themed title so he wrote some more fitting pieces I’ll probably record today
@@dylan-kerry yes I found you from one of Adam’s streams! I always enjoy his streams but your playing style is really enjoyable to listen to as it keeps the old Ragtime style alive with your own style!
I’ll be looking forward to today’s spooky rags!
@@ByronCox-bt6jv Thank you. I appreciate having someone listen to my music as much as you do
I like how you brought out parts that I did not hear before. And the ornaments are cool
@@Leander-piano Thanks! The ornaments are very much inspired by Jelly Roll Mortons playing. Whenever you feel like adding something to a piece I would do so, it helps learn to improvise
Great job! I really like this song it's new to me!
@@ByronCox-bt6jv I was introduced to the piece by the other commenter who made a video yesterday. Very obscure piece of music. I didn’t see anything else by the composer
@@dylan-kerry Yes it is the only song he ever wrote that we know of
@@Leander-piano Very interesting. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a fake name so he could put a silly title on it. Chas. L. Johnsons (who wrote Dill Pickles) used to also write under the name Raymond Birch, Jelly Roll Morton (my favourite pianist) used to record under different names sometimes to avoid breaking a contract so it’s possible the composer also wrote a lot more and this was simply an alternative name he used for some reason
I like the song, however You could make your chair lower to ensure you have good posture,
