Another theory is... Some truth....some misinformation. The Essenes were the Zadok priests who did have wives and children. John the Baptist grew up there as a Zadok priest. Those were the true Temple priests, consecrated by King David (not Solomon) and confirmed by Abba Father. Is clearly outlined in the Scriptures. Also, Dr. Elior confirms it as well.
