The problem i have with hemp is i can never fix say a fosset or an angle valve in the right position (90 degree). Im always lacking half a turn or quarter turn or so. If i put it in the right position, it is not tight enough and i cannot do one more turn. Any tips on how to handle this ?

Sorry to say that , you definitely a learner , what you just done , is damaged the pipe on the freezer clamp , you over-freeze that , the ice cubicle expanded that pipe and you will have a leak sooner or later look way to frozen which incorrect way freezing it … on top of that , lots of house insurance companies don’t cover leaks on compression fittings.

    • @workshop1004

Over freeze a pipe? Those units are designed to keep the pipe frozen as long as you need. Would you risk taking the freezer off and then start work? Up against an unknown timeline?

@@workshop1004 dude , you expand the icicle inside the pipe work , you left it for to long , once you see so much white frost buildup like this , you prep your pipe work first and mark before you going to start the cutting into it whatever you repairing you can’t just leave freezer machine on for this long , I pretty sure thermal gauges gives you out the temperature on the clamps … I’m telling you know , that pipe will burst , because you weaken the inner tube , I can tell the freezer machine is Rothenberger, have you read the manufacturer instructions at all ??

@@workshop1004 yes you can , with enough preparation, ice cubicle takes 10 minutes to melt , is more than enough time to sort this out , you have try it for your self , freeze the pipe work , before that install isolation valve end of a pipe work , leave it shut , freeze the pipe , open the isolation valve put the timer on , and see it for yourself how long it takes , and close the valve once you see water spraying ..

I do industrial plumbing heating and sprinkler systems. There is nothing wrong with what you are doing. I have learned down through the years that there is more than one way to do a particular job. you can score the pipe thread anyway you want. the end result is to make sure the hemp stays in place, You took the time and effort to post a video so well done you.

The small problem it is that he use hard straight copper pipe, not mild copper pipe. With hard copper pipe, you must first heat the hard copper pipe only at the end, only the part that will expand. Let it cool and after will expand more easily.

Great video of a professional installation. Essex flanges are not for the feint hearted! When I’ve fitted them I’ve used a thin bungee cord hooked onto the loop on the wire. I hook the other end of the bungee to the timber of the tank cupboard (or some other nearby immovable object). Their puts the cord and wire under light tension and prevents the risk of the flange falling into the tank. You have both hands free to work on the assembly and you can line up all of the components in sequence on the cord.

I recently did something similar my tank. I was a bit reticent to use the essex flange as it relies on a rubber seal which could degrade over time. I ended up using a standard tank connector and soldered it in. Flooded the thing with probably way more solder than needed but it worked a treat and I'm sure it'll last the life of the tank.
