Mozart-Klavierstück in F (KV 33B) (Guitar arrangement)
From the movie Amadeus. The Klavierstück in F (KV 33B) works well on the guitar. A useful piece if you're ever playing in a palace or in front of dignitaries!

Black Sabbath Compilation-Jazz Is Dead?

Sabbath have always been recognized for mixing a bit of jazz into their iconic sound, albeit in small doses. This compilation tries to show a selection of their jazzier moments during the 1970's, no copyright infringement is intended, and I hope you find this compilation interesting and/or useful and stay safe. Black Sabbath-Symptom of the Universe Tab (with acoustic solo)
Переглядів 1,7 тис.4 роки тому
Symptom of the Universe is a bonified Sabbath classic that showcases many aspects of the band’s sound: heaviness but also the jazzy component that made them stand out. This tab includes Iommi’s outro acoustic solo, which is very laid-back A Dorian affair, and well worth studying to improve your jazz-rock chops. The acoustic guitar is in fact tuned to C sharp, like his electric guitar, which is ...
Kenny Burell-No more (guitar transcription)
Переглядів 2414 роки тому
A little gem of a piece from Kenny’s 1963 release Bluesy Burrell (recorded in 1962), a classic laid-back jazz record with Coleman Hawkins on sax and also in fine form (There’s a tab of one his sax solos on another video). I recommend giving the whole album a listen. This track, “No More” (to the best of my knowledge, an original composition by Burrell), features Kenny in a nostalgic mood, playi...
Black Sabbath - Rock N Roll Doctor (1978 live version)
Переглядів 5144 роки тому
Like many of Iommi's live solos, this one has a bit more rhythmic variety compared to the Technical Ecstasy album version (although I recommend you listen to the studio version first, so you can compare. Also the studio intro has a great proto-shred lick in it, just before the main riff starts). Tony's playing was amazing during the Never Say Die tour (1978), and his guitar is in standard tunni...
Black Sabbath-Black Sabbath live, solo tab (From the Never Say Die Tour, 1978)

Tab for "Black Sabbath, the live version taken from their video from the Never Say Die tour, where Tony was on fire, playing some of his finest from the 70’s period; this is a great version of the solo to learn, featuring an extended section with some dark vibrato-tinged licks, unison bends and some lovely use of triplets throughout.
Rory Gallagher - They Don’t Make Them Like You Anymore Solo Tab
Переглядів 4374 роки тому
Taken from his 1974 album "Tattoo", Rory Gallagher's solo here is a great example of how to blend styles; a blues in D dorian with some lovely jazzy phrasing. A great solo to jam on. His phrasing and execution are flawless throughout, featuring a wide vibrato and precise string bending.

Black Sabbath-Behind The Wall Of Sleep Tab (1970 Live version with jazz outro solo)
Переглядів 5224 роки тому
This is a tab of the live version of Behind the Wall of Sleep, taken from the John Peel session from 1970. It's a bit more involved than the album version, and also contains a great example of Iommi's jazz chops in the outro solo, where one can see a Wes Montgomery influence with the use of octaves, a techinque Iommi would use again in the Fairies Wear Boots intro section ("Jack the Stripper")....
Tres Palabras-Coleman Hawkins (Transcription for guitar)
Переглядів 6554 роки тому
Coleman Hawkins was one of the great Jazz survivors from the 1920’s jazz scene still active in the 60’s and one of the magisterial tenor players of 20th century jazz. He produced some fine recordings late in his career, and this take, from the Kenny Burrell album “Bluesy Burrell”, sees the Hawk in top form. It is a masterclass in thematic development and melodic control, one of his best late so...

Man!! Thank you so much for doing this! I own Things We Like, what a great record, and some Graham Bond recordings with JM, but never heard the other cuts...Thanks again. One comment, even though the musical settings are different from his later musical directions (like Mahavishnu Orchestra and Shakti), you can still hear a similar approach in the way he approaches his solos.

It’s not on my to-do list at the moment, but there’s a Symptom of the Universe tab in the pipeline, with the acoustic jazz-blues solo at the end, there’s also his Wicked World jazz solo jam from the Live at Last album, one of his best jazz solos; so many good solos from Tony!

Thanks very much for your comment. I did try to find age appropriate photos of the great man, but this one was my favourite! There is an old photo of him playing alongside Gunter Hampel, certainly from before 1969 (prob. 68), I might include it as a thumbnail later. (There’s also a 27 second clip of them playing “Time is Now” from 1968, very short but cool!). Glad you enjoyed the music. I felt people should know more about John's Pre-Extrapolation work, so much variety to it.

    • @wallacecollect

@@Tipoconsuguitarra Someone linked your video on a Facebook JM group facebook.com/groups/7154255898 - I linked one of my favourite photos - probably '63 where he is posing with a Gretsch. I've seen the Hampel stuff - there are some longer audio recordings of that group, but sound quality is bad. It is certain that JM disappeared off the scene in early '68, went back up to his hometown and woodshedded for a few months. His intention was to play in a completely original style. When he returned he did the TWL session with Jack Bruce where he sounds like no one else. I suppose Extrapolation is part of that pre-Extrapolation work. It's when he goes to NY in 69 when his approach changes again.

    • @Tipoconsuguitarra
      @Tipoconsuguitarra 4 роки тому

@@wallacecollect Very interesting information, thanks. Again, amazing how he kept reinventing his musicality, like a phoenix, and after Extrapolation, his technique and vision goes beyond most guitarists’ possibilities. And again in the 80’s with his Synclavier phase; he offered something new every decade. I agree with the Jack Bruce comment, he was coming nicely to the boil around then, and Extrapolation was like the harvest of his experimentation the years previous. There’s also some good vocal music he had a part in; a highlight is “It’s Funny” (which later ended up on Extrapolation with a slight eastern vibe to it), which he recorded with Duffy Power on vocals around 1966, has a real 60’s London feel to it. Worth a listen!
