    I wanted to pin this down here to make it easier for everyone to reference: Revive the starter, mix 100g starter, 100g body temp water, 100g flour (10g rye, 15g whole wheat, remainder AP). Do this for one or two days, if it is really active after the first one you can do it once. If it has been a while or hasn’t more than doubled in size do this twice. If I use once a week I just do it once, otherwise I do it twice. You can do this every 18 or so hours (just depends on how much it grows.

    Blueberry Pie Recipe: Adapted From Martha Stewart Pies and Tarts - 1985 Pate Brisee From the same cookbook- see my video on how to make it: 3 pints fresh blueberries 1 cup sugar (could use 3/4 cup) 1/3-1/2 cup all purpose flour 1 TBS butter cut into small cubes 1 tsp salt Mix ingredients and set to the side Roll out half of pate brisee dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Place in to pie pan, fold edges under and crimp or flute edges. Roll out remaining dough to same thickness. Free hand cut leaf shapes, cut enough to cover pie once full. You might have to retool remaining dough. Used a butter knife, indent leaf veins into leaves. Place on top of pie in desired pattern, leave some cracks open but cover the rest. Optional: roll dough and place on top of filled pie, use a small sharp knife to cut slits for ventilation. Brush with one egg yolk mixed with 1/4 heavy cream, sprinkle with 1 TBS sugar Bake at 400 for 40-50 minutes

    In case you don’t get up to the description box. Link for Shirazi Salad recipe, I used as a starting point for my salad: www.themediterraneandish.com/shirazi-salad-recipe/ Yogurt Sauce: 1 Cup Yogurt - strained (if using Greek yogurt, skip straining step) 1 small Persian cucumber, shredded and most liquid squised out ½ tsp salt Cracked pepper 1 large clove garlic, minced ¼ tsp dried oregano (1/8 tsp would be enough) ½ tsp dried parsley (can also use more if using fresh parsley) Juice of ½ - 1 whole lemon Mix and allow sauce to sit for 20 mins to 1 hour before dinner Thank you for watching!❤

    There're many version of Kang kob . The pumpkin in your vid has feature of the original variety . Kang kob mean toad in Thai. The skin suppose to be very bumpy , very thick and inedible. It really hard to peel so it has less commercial value. There're many other newer versions of kang kob that the skins are thinner , less bumpy, easier to peel. Unfortunately the taste and texture are inferior. If you could find the very bumpy version keep the seeds well. It's a little hard to find even in Thailand. Most people could only find F1 version . Yours is OP. it's really valuable. Not much people grow and sell real seeds anymore. I think it's taste the best in curry but I don't want to peel it . About the rain issue to make it taste better you can try adding some potassium fertilizer. Calcium fertilizer make the plant healthier, more vigorous and bigger vine. I'm thai . I grow pumpkin as hobby .

    • @donothinggarden
      @donothinggarden 9 місяців тому

      The commercial variety (f1) is hybrid of kang kob. They're way more productive than this ,have good rain resistance and bigger. Taste and texture are just inferior. If this original version is 9/10 the f1 version is like 6.5/10 but still good though. This original kang kob is very weak against rain. It bland .

      That is really great information - thank you!! I was really impressed with these pumpkins and how well they held up in the winter. They are hard to cook with though because they are so hard to cut and the skin is so bumpy. You made me appreciate them more, and I will definitely continue to grow them each year!! Also, thank you for the tips on fertilizer, I never thought to use fertilizer to help with the flavor of the pumpkin. Pro tips from a Thai on the Thai pumpkin 👍👍

    New sub #38 here!! Both migardner and baker creek is where I get most of my seeds from. Bk peas/bens are super simple to grow. I prefer to plant directly in the ground, it's just easier and more of a natural environment. 🥔🌽🥕

    Rachel, Thank you for sharing your NEAT SOURDOUGH RECIPE. I have been making sourdough Breads since 2016....9 years. I only make Sourdough Breads. I have two SDS Genesis. I bake often. For my family, me, and friends. Years ago I purchased tins from a Bakery. My tins are LARGER they hold 2 pounds of Dough. I had problems Lifting. My husband took them apart. Now I make 2 loaves 2 pounds each. I like the Sandwich Loaves. I use the tins, and I ALSO BAKE 425 oven. And I do have a Sassafrass LONG DO gifted from a friend....and make that when I am doing one loaf for a friend. My recipe is like yours...but I do add HONEY. Enjoyed watching, have a copy of your recipe. Aria

      Aria, thank you so much for watching and sharing your baking experience with me. I have learned when baking sourdough the outcome is usually a little bit of surprise, there are so many variables at play. Wow, 2 lbs, they must have been very heavy! I probably should take mine a part even further, but I have gotten so used to the 2 of them being attached. How long do you find you have to bake your bread for? I sometimes add sugar, to change the texture, I will try honey next time! - Rachel

    I purchased about 50 vanillas beans how much vodka should I use?

    • @itsrachelszil
      @itsrachelszil 10 місяців тому

      Wow that is a lot of beans, that is great! If they are really thick and plump vanilla beans you could make about 6 cups of vanilla at the stronger strength. A good ratio is 6-8 beans per 8 ounce cup. If they are less plump or the smaller size you will probably get closer to 5 cups. If you want to make less at one time, double seal any unused bean in the freezer. Let me know how it goes :)

  • @rexbeavers6746
    @rexbeavers6746 11 місяців тому

    So, what is the normal ratio of alcohol to beans?

    • @itsrachelszil
      @itsrachelszil 10 місяців тому

      An easy ratio to go by is 6-8 beans per 8 ounce cup of vodka. You can go up to 10 beans if they are really dry like mine were, but honestly I probably used a few more than I really needed to. I recommend making a larger quantity since the vanilla has to soak for a few months to be fully done. Or start one cup now and then one cup in a month or two so you always have one going. Let me know how it goes:)

    Good morning just found the video. I'm new to the diy vanilla extract community. I was thinking of using the liquor bottles too but my question became/is how do you get the beans out? Isn't alooot of work? Ty 🙂🙂

    • @itsrachelszil
      @itsrachelszil 10 місяців тому

      Hello! I am so sorry I missed this comment until now, I hope it isn't too late. It is honestly a little bit of work to get the beans out of the long narrow spout. I shake it and use a chopstick to catch on them and pull. I always plan to use something different bottle but I do like the tall narrow profile of the bottle, since it doesn't take up as much space on my shelf.
