no such thing as township art, art is art!
@@mafokomotseothata3447 how would you describe art that is made by artists who comes from the townships and that deals with the lives of people in the township?
@@info.nxumalo for me i think my opinion leans more towards ntate Magadlela's "sympathy art" understanding. i think my description of art made by artist from townships is like jazz, improvisation at its best. i love the above interview with ntate Thami because you guys spoke about the importance of teaching the professional aspect of fine art in townships (especially as a gateway to established institutions through art centres). the beauty of artists who come from townships lies in their resilience to overcome their lived realities and still produce amazing art works. I think ntate Magadlela's hate for artists from townships painting shacks is informed by how colonial history has always depicted Africans at a time when we couldn't speak for ourselves, now that there is a level of agency i think the duty of artists dealing with township life as a subject matter need to both record the lived realities but also offer alternative worlds and stretch the people's imagination towards solutions that will better their communities. art from the township should be a beacon of hope for the people who come and live there.
such a lovely conversation💫 Thanks for sharing. So in love with Buqaqawuli's work. the audio is a bit low.
@@zeeteevee1251 thank you very much for the feedback 🙏🏽
nigga please come on in this day and age a podcast with no vid
This podcast is curated intentionally, to give artists a platform to be listened to. Artists spend so much resources, time and energy to give us visuals, yet as their audience we don’t get enough opportunity to listen to their voices at a human level. A video serves a particular purpose, that in a near future will be integrated on this platform. For now, let’s do the thing that is a bit difficult to do, to spend an hour of our time giving them our ear, so that when we go back to their platforms, either their exhibitions or social media platforms, we can engage with their work with a much better understanding of who they are and why they do what they do. Thank you for the feedback, and please don’t forget to subscribe and share the podcast on your platform 🙏🏽
